How good is a snowdog? In deep snow/hills? I never expected this!

Testing the snowdog on rolling hills. Very deep snow/fresh powder. I go over a lot of info on how it preforms and is in general. and there's more to come soon.
sorry for the wind!
This is a older dirt pit.

In Russia, a sledge is installed in front of the motorcycle tank, they serve as a controlled ski, this gives increased cross-country ability, these sleds are like a shovel from a bulldozer, which pushes and presses excess snow, and the motorcycle tank follows this trail and it is easier for it

How much of a difference would you think the long track version would make a difference given the same conditions? Great review!

Id say it would be harder to steer for sure but would do better in the powder. Ill post a vid of the next day i ran some of the hills once the snow settled and it did way better

They sell these at a local sporting goods store near me, and for late season Elk hunting it would be fine. But with the amounts of powder we get here in central Idaho, you would have to stay on the groomed trails. I suppose it would be fine for commuting to and from a cabin or ice fishing, but other then that pretty much not reliable. You would have to follow you track wherever you went.

love mine the issue is slush or ice in the bogey wheels, I have B&S 13.5 engine. so far, I can go anywhere in 1.5 to 2 feet of snow I live in Traverse City, Michigan. Michigan DNR said I need an ORV sticker on it. haven't done that yet. problems I had was loose chain, broken gas line rotted thru during summer, remove gas when done with it for the year. throttle cable melting together because it was touching exhaust when operating it. I have the utility model

Nice! Yea had chain loosen, bogey wheels issues but ill be running mine in late spring and fall . Its just like a snowblower in that realm. Gotta summarize it.

Be sure to install a protective cloth cover on the engine, otherwise snow dust will get on the carburetor and the drive rods will not work correctly. Snow dust is formed even in warm weather, for example +1, +2 and further. Otherwise, you can stay in the forest and not return home

Looks like you have some clutching issues. That motor should never bog down. And it should never stall out the track.

I would personnalt want one but with a track for offtrail like 2.5 inch ... then powder is easier

Wouldnt even considering a longer track or bigger lugs, ir can hardly turn the track it has.

I like the concept of them. They look to lack the power it needs and that tub full of snow always around your feet, not good.. it may be great on town on snow covered roads. But definitely not for busting a trail.. I'll keep my 5 grand. ✌️

I like the concept, too, but to ME they're a little too big and heavy! Underpowered if you want to fly around like a regular snowmobile, but overpowered, if all you want is a portable snow machine that can haul you and a bunch of gear around in the snow. I've seen the concept done with a much smaller motor (like 3.5 or 5 HP) and a smaller, lighter chassis. Outdoor Boys channel had what I'm talking about. It wasn't a snow dog brand, I don't think. I saw the same little machine a guy from Eastern Europe/Western Asia with the same little version. Both guys pulled a lot of gear. Both guys were plenty big enough to pick the thing up if they had to. The snow dog, at 350 lbs, isn't something a regular person could horse around like those littler ones could be. 3.5 to 5 HP is standard range for push or self-propelled lawn mower. The average guy can pick one of those up off the ground and load it into a pickup, unassisted, and a woman or smaller man could muscle into a trunk or pickup truck, with some ingenuity and planning. 3.5 HP is enough to pull a lot of cargo if the gearing is appropriate. You just might not move more than 5 or 10 mph. That'd be plenty fast, for me, if I could get where I wanted. What I liked about the smaller unit was you COULD take it anywhere. To places a traditional recreational snowmobile could not go without risk of getting stuck. If you got that little unit stuck, you could recover it by main strength. I agree about the cheesy plastic toboggan that fills with snow. But you're not bound by that one method. You can make your own sleigh. My biggest issue is the lack of good mufflers. I'd give up 1/4 HP to be quieter.

What are the rules for on lakes as far as licensing?
@seewhyem

depending on the state you live in.. a few states you'll need registration from the dmv. As for licensing.. none required.

A lot of states consider it an “assist vehicle” so no need for registration. I’ve seen people out on lakes cruising around chasing tip ups and hole hopping. Seems perfect for that application. I impressed how much you pushed this rig during this vid.

It's like getting a Bradley fighting Vehicle, when what's called for is a Toyota pickup. That big, blatty, oversized lawnmower engine, weighing a combined 350 lbs, when I think you could do plenty with something half or less of that, with minor tweaks to where your weight is, how/whether you sit, and how you steer. A little Honda 80 CR or CRF (2- or 4-stroke, respectively) would be plenty of power with the proper gearing. 80cc is 5-10 horsepower. Heck, you might be able to use a Honda tranny with the motor. You'd just need to gear it properly to the treads. A bigger wheel (now tread) sprocket for mechanical advantage to the motor. I just found "Taiga Dog," which is similar to snow dog, but has a low seat behind the tracks. But I can see having a snow machine set up a lot like a Honda mini-bike, but lower to the ground, with a track underneath, and a couple skis out front that only weighed maybe 150/200 lbs total, and could be broken down into pieces for loading, transport, and unloading. With low enough gearing, you could putt-putt around with a pretty big sleigh behind you, certainly enough to set up a nice ice-fishing hut. I could also see myself with a small 4-wheeler and switching the wheels over to tracks in the winter.
