You can also gouge kite to solo melee elites. Crippling poison to slow, gouge, run to max distance while using thrown weapon to damage or bandage up if you need. If it's a really hard hitting mob you can keep 5 combo points up at all times for kidney shot if you miss gouge and blind if you miss both. You can keep alive long enough for cool downs to open back up. Juggle ruptures and thrown for damage, it takes awhile but works.

Rogue is great for hardcore, but watch out for the resists. That one mob you need to kill WILL resist sap at the worst possible time, and you need to be prepared to deal with that.

15 year rogue main here, in addition to sap dropping you out of stealth it can also be resisted. So if you NEED to use it... never use it without a plan B. Unless you're in a good group.

You kinda missed some of the sword upgrades for Horde. There are very nice swords from quests for both Wailing Caverns and Blackfathom Deeps. The latter is even a one-hand so you can move it to off hand after you replace it, though it's very slow so might not be optimal in that role. After I got each of those swords, my damage was just absolutely insane for a few levels, the BFD one especially.

Deadly poison does more damage on elites or higher health targets, plus you can kite and have damage ticking, but to each their own. Soloing Qaraga (or w/e her name is) for the ZF mallet, I tried to kill her 3 times with instant poison, but it wasn't until I switched to deadly that I got the kill.

For horde: do not sleep on outlaw sabre from a quest in BFD. This is a very slow 1h sword that will last you for quite a while

I've made it to 60 on a HC Rogue and have never felt safer. I went Sub down to Prep, then finished in Combat. You dont really need to go much further into Sub after that. Just need Prep/Hemo/Deeds. Ghostly strike is also one of the best abilities for HC as well. Literally never felt safer the whole way up. Also suggested to not use daggers all the time, even as Sub, even with the Ambush build. You can have a macro equip your dagger, pick pocket and Ambush all in one. Then use that Hemo/Ss macro to put main hand back on. Eventually Ambush falls off and you wont be using it much outside of on Humanoids, since you get cheaper Cheap Shots/Garrotes and higher dmg bleeds overall.

Yeah, I disagree with most of this guide entirely. Rogue is definitely, without an argument of any kind, the safest and easiest class to (carefully) level with. Other classes can level 'normally' (without trying to never die) easier and with less brain cells, and can do it much faster, but Rogue is the outright safest class in general if you're trying to level to 60 without ever dying. Vanish is arguably the best survival CD in the game, because it ends combat and you are made invisible to mobs while still being able to move. Evasion, kick, improved gouge, killing most enemies before they can even hit you once, stealth being in a league of its own in terms of power/utility, all make Rogue a very safe and easy Hardcore class to level as. You obviously have to know what you're doing and Vanish won't save you from big mistakes, but Rogue is probably S tier at Hardcore leveling. Plus you can Gouge juggle or crippling poison kite a lot of elite mobs. Hell, a lot of troublesome mobs can be Blinded so you can escape them.

@@user-nj9yv2iu5t Problem is, while as a rogue main I think the same way, for new players the rogue isn't as easy to play as for example a mage or hunter. Why tho? First of all, rogue is still a melee class wearing nothing but leather. You will get chunked by mobs, which isn't a huge problem in most cases. But there are certain mobs who use execute. As veteran player you may know them. As a new player mostly not. Stealth tends to be one of this abilitys, who will kill many players. Stealthing into a cavern or behind some mobs, just to pull them, is classic. Same goes for vanish. One dot, one bleed is enough to kill you. For a veteran player also no problem, you know how to handle this situations. For a newer one on the other hand? So my point ist, rogue is one of the savest class to play, when you know how to play the class. Otherwise you will die a lot (which is also shown in the deathlogs with rogue as one of the most dieing classes).

@@kisaness Sure but if you're talking hardcore, then every class is going to need to be played by experienced players. An inexperienced player playing any class is going to end up dying eventually, so discussing whether or not a certain class is more/less easier for an inexperienced player in classic is irrelevant. Also, Vanish can still be used to escape even with dots on you. Run away and vanish and you'll lose the mobs, you just have to make sure not to be near any other mobs when you come back out of stealth.

when it comes to stealth levels, I'm pretty sure your stealth level increases every level you increase, so with level 1 stealth you don't have stealth level 5 when you are say level 19 otherwice every1 would see you. only thing the rank of your stealth increases is your movement speed not how well enemies see you

So I found quite literally one time expose armor is useful: The Elites in Un'Goro actually have quite a lot of armor, and it is possible to farm them quite decently and on VERY low level gear if you are a combat Savant. However, you have no business doing this in Harcore, so you won't do that.

Frontstab Sub starting at level 31....do get master of deception and camoflauge, save points from NOT getting improved ambush, deadliness (garbage at baseline but especially considering the garbage greens we wear) opportunity and premed, put them into assassination talents instead, Improved Evisc/Cold Blood over improved SnD.....1 point SnD untalented is plenty being fueled by Ruthless/Relentless....then burst, bleed, kite evasion/ghostly tank or stunlock your opponents into the ground with your oh shit buttons turned into offensive tools. Leatherwork/skin for gear up to nightscape and +econ for gold, trade out for herb alch 40-60 for thistle tea, agility and gift of arthas pots(much easier with mount). Exposed Armor is useful vs Elementals and the like immune to bleed/poison and combo point dumps when everything else is running. Switch to Combat for Raiding! Enjoy!

If anyone is reading the comments and aren't sure what to choose; Every single class (including warriors), aren't hard to get to 60. If you can kill a mob at your level, you can get to 60. Anything that causes your death is greed. I have done the challenge on warrior, and hunter as well. The hardest part of the challenge is 1-20ish, for all classes. By the time you have the majority of your tool kit at 30, you pretty much have a solution to everything the game is going to throw at you, within reason. for the first 20 or so levels, if you are a melee, maybe do some ranged pulls if you see a pack of 2-3, understand how leashing mechanics work. Past that, just have a solid leveling route, amongst a couple other things like being aware of what professions youre going to run, what items vendors have, and how they can benefit you at early levels. For Professions, sometimes its viable doing a shuffle, where you start with two gathering, and then storing all of it in your bank until you swap to whatever youre going to do. You can do all this stuff mentioned, while also going for speed running achievements if youre following the addon. **The hardest part of the challenge is other players on or off your faction just looking to grief you for their own benefit or entertainment** so the TLDR is just play what you want to play, and don't worry about the challenge aspect of it at the end of the day, because as long as you are able to kill a mob at your level, you can do the challenge. If you die, without being griefed, you likely are greeding or miss playing (generally, at least) good luck good luck

Exactly right, no class is “easier” or “harder” they’re just different and have different toolkits. People die because they take risks. I also did hunter and warrior and as long as you know your limits at specific level ranges you shouldn’t die. Barring DC deaths or whatever. Dungeons are really the only other major risk because a bad teammate can end your run and you can’t always control that.

Tip for those doing the poison quest (at least the Horde version): you need your lockpicking higher than the level you need it to complete the lockpicking introduction quest. I'm not sure at what level you need it, because I didn't go back and try to pick it every 5 skill points, but you should probably get most of the points that are available in the first location that has the fast respawning boxes. If you don't have high enough lockpicking, you'll have to come back later and kill the boss again. If you have to do that, I don't recommend trying to sap the boss and pick the lock while he's sapped, because he broke the sap early twice in a row right when it was about to finish. I jumped out of the tower one of those times and barely survived the fall. The second time I just vanished.

Actually with the other starting zone now in effect, you get the poision quest almost at the start. It works about the same for Horde or Alliance. Stealth is given pretty early as well. You'll find it easier.

Macroing weapon equips into combo point generators can be sketchy. There are times when it can ever-so-slightly delay an ability as the game checks and tries to equip a weapon that's already equiped, and this can add up over a long fight. This may have been a side effect of 400ms batching, I can't really say for sure. Either way, I found that dedicated weapon swap macros and opener+weapon swap macros felt a lot better while leveling in vanilla.

Hit 20 yesterday on my HC sub rogue. Im going full stealth talents and dont care if i ever get to level 50. I've been going super slow and careful. Went skinning and herb till level 12 then alchemy using everything I'd gathered. Then switched to leatherworking because the early quests give crap gear. Gonna switch back to herb/alchemy after i create gear for up to level 26 or so. Then maybe I'll be brave and go questing again. Lol. I've nearly died 5 times to this point and twice i was saved by a bag of marbles. Dont ever vendor that early reward!!! Good luck and happy pickpocketing!

Expose armor is something you want if your often in a group doing dungeons. It can make a fair few bosses a lot easier to deal with via weakening their ability to shrug off damage. However it is indeed best in late game raids like for Raggy or Onyx. so you can generally leave it until then. But I find it helps a fair bit against several high armor dungeon bosses like the warrior in Scarlet monestary or other such bosses.

Very nice guide the only thing I would change is slice and dice, I really think this is geared more toward a longer boss fight than for mobs, I would use combo points for rupture or eviscerate. As far as the poisons go, combat is so much more fun using poisons because of the sound effects and for me it's all about enjoying the class you play and having fun and Rogues are very fun.

Everyone hates on LW, but it was not uncommon at all for me to be wearing gear I crafted. At any given time, I probably had 2-3 crafted pieces on my way to 60. I also never ran out of health pots just from random drops and pick pocketing. IIRC I also got swift thistle herb from a few places w/o herbalism, so I had to use my thistle tea sparingly.

The problem with classic armor crafting is that the crafted pieces are usually just very slightly better (and often way worse) than the gear available from you from quests and drops. It wasn't until WOTLK that Blizzard redesigned armor crafting for the first 60 levels. imo the ideal WoW today to play would be level 60 content, level 70 talent revamp (but without the talents beyond the 31 point one) and WOTLK tradeskill revamp

Leveling a classic druid herb/alch I missed on quite a few LW crafted pieces because I didn't find a leveling guild I liked nor made a LW friend, and the AH was hit or miss whether it was fair prices or gouged on any given day. There were quite a few level ranges where I'd pass on the item(s) because I had little choice, but if one goes LW one can easily make them for one's self.

A few gear upgrades won't save your life near as much as a target dummy or blind. Having more options is the best way to survive in HC. Target dummies are just another button to press that have large impact on whether you live or die, much like stuff like Health Potions, evasions etc.

rogue is pretty free post vanish tbh. The sword progression from dungeon quest is just too good and you always have good dmg till 60. Go alchemy/herb for health pots and swiftthistle and you can handle most elite quest at level (after the mid 20s if going combat).

They can lock pick chests, but not lockboxes (difference, chests are interactable world objects, lockboxes are picked up items). At 60 they can open lockboxes for others, because trading opens up.

That's why you make distance with crippling poison first. Anyone who has done jousting on a warrior for leveling understands how powerful crippling poison can be. You get something stronger than hamstring at level 20. Most level with instant poison which makes sense when you have multiple lives. If you have one life having a huge slow on each mob is big for survival.

Weird that you say lower levels are rough. I found 1-20 rogue a breeze, post-20 I hated it more and more each level and ended up dying at 28. Was probably a blessing tbh. I did enjoy how much more involved the class is having to level pickpocketing, apply poisons, leveling herbs, but being that I died, all that extra effort was for nothing.

any class can vanish just like the rogue and actually it is better than rogue vanish. Just get 200 engineering and use gnomish cloaking device sure it has a 1 hour cooldown but still hunters can use aspect of cheetah and get full speed stealthed

the weapon swapping is kind of off in vanilla. it reset global Cd in battle and sometimes you will get a late or miss sec on weapon hit. also like warrior rogues are really gear dependent. otherwise rogues are mostly fun in world pvp. hahaha!

If Official HC servers do allow trading, it's important to know that doing so will still invalidate your run for the HC Community. So if you're doing an actual HC run, you still won't be able to trade, and will need Herbalism to gather Fadeleaf for your rogue.

no matter what version you play. Rogue is a bit weaker to begin. Having to eat to heal after each fight and having to focus more on multiple pulls (AOE). But end game, MY GOD, this class is superior, it is so tanky and damaging its insane. Totally worth the starting struggle.

First time I ever played Rogue I got one to 60 in HC using about three brain cells. By far the easiest class to not die on. I went Combat the whole way up.
