Nice job with the review...being the owner of the regular ZL1 I can say you nailed it comparing it to the 1LE. The car brings a smile every time I drive it and in a lot of ways it’s a sleeper...only the true die hard car fans know the ZL1(650HP) is a special Camaro vs the regular (465HP) SS. Most folks fall into the camp of thinking its just another Camaro and that’s just fine with me. Cheers!!!!

@@mrjjthor Cool, that thing is a beast on tracks. When starting out, follow other good racers around the tracks, just to learn how to take the corners the best way. Copy their every move and you'll have it down fairly quickly. I think some tracks only let casual racers on the tracks once or twice a year. There are racing schools and clubs, that may give you more of a chance to track it often.

I'm looking at the ZL1 and the 1LE as my next purchase in the next 2 years or so. Ive always heard the suspension on the 1LE was stiff, but it depended on personal preference whether or not you would be a fan. This comparison was the best one ive seen so far.

On Feb 2, 2023 I took delivery on my 2023 ZL1 M6. One reason I didn't want a 1LE was the big spoiler, I don't like it. I'm also never going to take my car on the race track. Get what ever car makes you happy. I ZL1 blends ins with traffic especially is you don't get a flashy color.

My M6 ZL1 (non-1LE) mostly serves as street (weekend) duty as I most likely won't take it to the track on a regular basis. While the stiffer suspension and better wheels/tires was tempting, having multiple suspension modes from the magnetorheological dampers makes it feel as though you have multiple cars. If the 1LE had adjustable modes or even the new magride that the CT5-V BW has, then that would've been the preferred setup, but with as poorly as some roads are, it's good to be able to adjust the settings, if anything to preserve the car. As an aside, I'd love to see how a regular ZL1 handles with the ZL1 1LE wheel/tire combination as it may actually get better 1/4 mile times than a regular ZL1 and ZLE. Good video, and nice to see a Mopar guy appreciate craftsmanship from all brands.

Racer X ! Great job on the review, I stopped in Hurst autoplex at the beginning of this year, great dealership and staff. They had 8 hellcats, a ZO6 and of course the two ZL1, I'm 49 and a die hard fan of the ZL1/1LE, but after two years of love, and wanting one, the ride is just to hard, I found a very low mileage ZL1 with all the 1LE features added, 6 speed and it's the best of both worlds. It's very rare on the street, and great on the curves plus rides smooth. Hurst is in DFW !

I currently have a 2018 charger hellcat and I’m trading it soon for a zl1 1le. Love the hellcat but zl1 1le you hardly see em in the streets. I never test drove one because dealer was asking to run my credit, so I drove ss1le without the blower and it was fun. Like you said brings it a smile to you when you drive zl1 1lE

@@Cal-El u can, but it a track car so it rides super hard ride do to it doesn't have any rubber grommets in the suspension so Basically if u pull out of a parking lot that's has uneven ground the car Left the one wheel off plus the suspension is adjustable The cars no joke it's a beast You do have to put a cold intake on it to get rid of the throttle lag

People don't need to sell the base ZL1 short. It's a very capable handling car and is still very impressive on a road course. It's basically a 2SS 1LE with the option to get and automatic transmission. Exact same tires as the SS 1LE, brakes are basically the same, same eLSD rearend, both use Magnaride tuned for their respective weights and power, etc. Sure it's got some extra weight over the front compared to the SS 1LE, but still a very capable handling car. It's easily a 1.0+ G machine bone stock. But no it's not the track weapon a ZL1 1LE is, but very few cars are. Still Alpha is one of the best performance car platforms ever developed. It is excellent.

The Regular ZL1 has magnetic ride control. This means when you set the car to "Touring" it comforts the suspension for a very smooth and comfortable ride, perfect for long distances. The ZL1-1LE is a track car, it has spool valve shocks and no magnetic ride control. The racing suspension is a harsh ride, because its a track car.

@Mike Gee Never claimed it did, but what crossed drilled or/and slotted rotors do is expel brake gases that develop due to dissimilar friction material between rotor and brake pad when stop excessively. It's the gases that creates the heat. And in wet weather crossed water is removed from between the rotors and pads more efficiently.

Good comparison side by side. The 1LE for those actually going to do many track days. If only doing MAYBE 1-3 track days or street and drag strip only then the normal ZL1 is a better choice. Crazy both are fully loaded though. But that DSSV suspension is so overkill on the streets and punishing. Not like the normal ZL1 isn't a great handling car. Normal ZL1 is a better choice for street use hands down. I been seeing videos of ZL1 1les at drag strips with wing, canards, and giant front lip still on their cars. Not understanding they are slower in qtr than a regular ZL1 without all that high speed down force which is actually drag.

Stock for stock the zl1 is faster than a hellcat. The redeye is just a tad faster than zl1.

Baloney, you wouldn't like driving the 1LE daily. Unless you don't mind getting new tires every 2000 miles (if you are lucky). If that is ok with you, great, you are in to wasting money unnecessarily. The standard ZL1 tires last maybe 6-8k, so even that car is not great as a daily driver either (unless you drive 20 miles or less every day, which would give you about a year on your ZL1 tires).

Paddle Shift .. if I Deleigh drove this car I would definitely change the tires on it. There’s no way I would keep those cup tires for normal street driving

@@RacerX9 Thank you for your honesty 😁! Problem with that is that it would be like swapping the tires on a Ferrari 488 Pista to make that a daily driver. My point is that a 1LE like the Pista is not a daily driver car. I would recommend anyone who is not wealthy or has a job that brings in a lot of cash is to buy the 1LE, and also buy a 10 year old honda civic (or similar) for $1,500 bucks. Drive the civic daily and take the 1LE out on weekends once or twice a month. That's what I have done in my last 5 performance cars. I ain't rich, but I can't live without the love of my life - fast cars. I know you are the same!
