This is not for rock crawling. Some people just want to spend time in nature and the capabilities of modern unibody SUVs are enough for them. My Forester does everything I ask of it during my hunts. It will not fit into narrow forest roads :) Maybe a k-pickup truck - a 660 cc., if my dream of having a cabin comes to live :) Many of hunters and farmers in Japan own one. I like this pathfinder, but can't understand how they re-designed the Pathfinder and frontier, yet came out with a new "X-terra" that seems less of an off roader than this pathfinder. Very odd, hopefully they will make some big changes on the New "X-terra" and get back to a true Xterra! Considering a new pathfinder, but I don't think I will ever get rid of my 05 Xterra, 6sp manual, even though it's a 2wd, it's still a great vehicle and since I'm not a big mudder, it does great in all the conditions that I use it for (camping, towing, everyday driver and just toke a 16hr trip to Orlando, FL in it and it's been awesome!

Xterra owner here… I saw a blue Pathfinder parked at work over the weekend. Definitely a nice looking vehicle. Exceeded my expectations on styling. I think they need to get onboard with the off-road segment that is blowing up. A lot of people want adventure vehicles right now. An Xterra built on the new Frontier platform would make sense to me. Some hybrid tech like the Jeep 4xe at a lower price point would be wise.

Eh… I hate it when the offroad trail is so cherry picked by the group selling you the car. Like if they really are comfortable and confident in their car being offroad worthy (even moderately) they should let reviewers pick a place to test it. Maybe have a vote and connect reviewers and fly them out to same place so it can still be a gathering but have it be a real test. Or they should drop the vehicle off at your location just say have at it, we want an honest opinion. I’m hoping Nissan is turning a new leaf. They seem like they want to change and fix what’s been wrong with them for so many years. They gave themselves a slightly new logo and are from what I have heard, getting away from old Nissan way of things. This could be good.

I'll venture to bet that both my current 4runner and former Frontier could have traversed that path in 2WD. Putting these "terrain select" switches on lifted AWD station wagons just gives people that don't need to be off roading a false sense of security that sometimes gets them into places they should not be and can't get out of. But to close on a positive note, at least this Pathfinder looks like a Pathfinder and not a a big Sentra station wagon. Thank goodness the CVT is gone. That does make this a viable alternative to the Explorer.

Thanks for this Roman! I dig it! It does have a LOT of value. This may not be a real off road competitor, but it has a lot of appeal again. Vs what it was between 1995 and now. Cannot wait for your true ride impressions. Does it float down the road? Does it have a lot of body roll? Does it have a good turning radius? When you are soft roading, is the suspension too stiff? What is the 0-60 performance numbers? Is the visibility excellent? How comfortable are you in the seats? I miss my 1995 Pathfinder. This machine might be a prelude into getting back to its roots.

FYI: I test drove a 2022 Pathfinder SL 4WD here in Central Texas where it was 100 degrees today on 7.29.21.. the reason I wanted to test drive one was to see how the AC worked because I saw a few reviews that said the AC didn't get cold enough...and they were RIGHT...The AC did NOT get cold enough IN THE 100 degree weather today.. I had the AC set to recycle the air from the inside air with AC button pressed and had it set to the lowest setting which was 60 degrees and the air did not feel crisp enough and would get warmer when u slowed down ,I also un pressed the AC button and that did not help..I own a 2015 Pathfinder SV and the air gets colder in it when I have it set to 70 degrees with the air being recycle from the inside air and the AC button is not pressed..Needless to say I was disappointed..matter of fact we help my mother in law buy a Nissan 2021 Kick last week and the AC gets colder then the New 2022 Pathfinder..Nissan please fix...Here in Texas if the AC isn't cold enough then nothing else matters with all the other new features...I definitely recommend testing one out on a HOT day before buying one..

We have one a d our ac gets ice cold. Was 103 this week and took 5 mins to cool down one time. Usually have to turn up to 73 or it us a bit chilly. I'm also one that keeps my house in the 60s. You want a poor ac try a Mazda cx9.

Also you have to make sure both front and rear air are not on the floor vents and of course recirculation. It gets colder much quicker if you back the fan speed off.

All over the place there Roman. Inside, out, front, inside. It’s the same mall crawler as last generation, with new sheet metal and tranny. So off road capabilities would match last generation.

This is a huge improvement over the last generation. The pathfinder needed to get some of its off road heritage back, however Nissan knows that most customers will not take this this ever off road. Possibly roll out a more off road version like Ford did with the Timberline Explorer.

That did very well for an SUV that won't ever see dirt. AWD with torque vectoring is quickly approaching *near* low-range levels (tho, obviously, full-diff lock, low-range is always going to win).

It's a good step forward from the last gen Pathfinder, but I personally wouldn't feel comfortable taking it on any thing more difficult than what was demo'd. In my opinion, they do not have the ground clearance, the tire, and likely the transmission to handle longer treks off-road. It is fine for a trail here or there, but they need to temper expectations better. This is not a Wrangler or even a Cherokee. People will get over confident and they will get themselves into trouble.

Thank goodness they have put an automatic transmission back in the pathfinder. I couldn't stand it with cvt. I had one for a rental. I'd get one today if it came with low range, fore and aft lockers, true A/T tires and some form of suspension that could either be factory set, or raise by 3-4" when heading off-road. If they pushed this model shown down in the line up and made one like I just spec'd (with with what they already offer on the truck they are already 80-85% of the way there) I would gladly pay another 7-10k over this ones price point.

That's a easiest trails to go up and down. Regular cars with high enough ground clearance will make it too. I Know my 2001 Honda Accord 4 cylinders go through places rougher than that. I used for fishing, camping and hunting anywhere I have enough ground clearance.

Lift to 10in clearance, protect the bottom, 33 in off road tires, low range, off-road shocks, locked center and rear diffs, 1200 lb payload ... then you have something. This is another pretender, a style kit. Can't believe Nissan thinks it can recover with this. You gotta earn it Nissan. Build value.
