Watched your review, bought it, definitely worth the money. Here's my review- It's playable. Is it stage worthy? Depends on your standards but I'm guessing no. First off, it has an extremely high bridge. So high, that I lifted the bridge out of the saddle, shaved it down to the bare minimum height, and then I had a worthy action. Not a great action, but certainly a passable one. The tuners are decent, the thing stays in tune, but I'm telling you now that g string is going to be a pain to get spot on, it is EXTREMELY touchy. The finish looks good, it is nowhere near rock solid. If micro scratches drive you crazy, get ready because it's going to be covered in those before it even gets to you. Other than those issues, it works really well, it's a fun instrument to mess around with, if this is your first bass I'd definitely recommend it. Using a headphone amp to test the piezo and preamp, I'm going to note 2 things, first off, the pre amp and piezo they use is $12 on Amazon. The pre-amp functions as a pre amp. Don't expect to do any fine tuning with that thing, the knobs aren't very accurate. The pickup is where it really shines, I hooked up to my headphone amp and my regular amp that tiny piezo under the bridge can amplify really clean notes, and handle really heavy gain. With the right setup, (or just buy a headphone amp, seriously they're awesome, it's like buying 25 pedals and five amps for $50, you can get pricier ones that do all kinds of crazy sh!t, you'll never buy a pedal again unless you're super anal about getting the right sound), you can play heavy metal on this acoustic bass with just the piezo. All in all- It takes some minor finger strength or you will have buzz. The action is garbage, but fixable. Tuners are passable. Frets showed up surprisingly nice. The piezo gives you a LOT of range to play with once you plug it in. The bass, is passable, and for $150 (I got mine for $80), it's definitely worth the money, I did not feel cheated. It's a cheap instrument, it's not a great instrument, and I'll be honest, right out of the box it's very close to being a bad instrument. With a bit of fine tuning (shaving the bridge down to just barely over the height of the saddle), it's a decent, dare I say good instrument, especially for the price. If you're like me and you just want something fun to toy with, maybe you're a guitarist and you want to give bass a try, maybe you're a seasoned musician and just want to know what an acoustic bass sounds like, and you don't want to spend buku bucks on top line gear, this is worth it. It's nice to own, nice to play, decent to learn on, it gets the job done and you'll have fun doing it. Oh, and you might want to replace the strings. I didn't, but it'll make playing easier, so if you're a new player and this is your practice instrument, I'd suggest nicer strings. They aren't bad, but a great set of strings is probably the cheapest way to make a decent guitar sound good.

Nice detailed review! I love when people have actual opinions based on experience with the instrument. My action was pretty low when I received it so I'm wondering if there was a bit of QC strangeness. And yeah, you can go down the rabbit-hole, upgrading components for sure. Sounds like you're customizing it to you're liking and that's what I typically do to inexpensive instruments. Have fun and make it your own!

My friend you can adjust the action to a lower setup by sanding the lower surface of the saddle. I own a few of these basses different brands Sky, BCP, YMC and have lowered the action to a very cool playable low action. The truss rod can give the final touch.

Your review was the nuts. Answered all my questions or concerns, as I am looking for my first bass and I trying to decide if a standard electric bass is better that the acoustic/electric model. Thanks for your assessment.

This is the best review of this bass that I have seen, in-depth with a lot of detail. I just had one of these delivered last week. It was on sale for $84. I did not expect much, but the sound quality, for the price, is most impressive. No loose washer rattle on mine. I may try that 1/4 turn neck adjustment, thanks. This is just my opinion, but I think this would be a nice bass for a beginner to learn on. The short form, 30 inches, is very forgiving and much less of a stretch than say a P bass.

I think the first thing I'd wanna do is put some flat wound strings on it. I can't see a case where I'd want to have all that finger slide noise on a bass, especially if played acoustically.

I was recently sent this model to review. The action is low, fret edges were smooth and required no need to adjust. Neck is straight. The fit and finish leaves something to be desired (they sent me the blue model) and unfortunately the headstock suffered a little damage in shipping. It’s definitely a wonderful starter bass (If the quality control is always up to par) I’m wondering if they have a luthier go over them before sending out to be reviewed. However if the QC is like the one I was sent, it’s playable right out of the box with tuning it a few times to stretch the strings. I’m waiting on an email back to figure out if I need to send this one back where it incurred damage or just review it as is. The damage is of no fault to Glarry as it was well packaged.

Sounds like you got a pretty good one, besides the headstock. Unfortunately, I don't think Glarry does much QC at the factory. They seem to be more concerned with having the lowest priced instruments on the market, which they do much of the time. I've reviewed a few of their basses here on this channel and this appears to be a recurring theme. I feel like they have some inexpensive basses that can modded in cool ways, like their short scale bass I tested here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJ61in6fgbmrb5o. But, other times the lack of QC becomes more of a problem, especially in a beginner market (which is their demographic). I do think that they would sell more instruments if they had someone checking and setting up instruments before leaving the factory, even if they had to raise their prices a bit due to the extra labor. That being said, it's always possible to recieve an instrument from Glarry without playability issues, like you did. You never know...

@@MyMusicMasterclass New to your channel, I’ll certainly check that link out! I agree with you, The one thing most of these Chinese beginner companies lack is QC, And you know as an experienced musician the absolute worst thing that can happen is your fingers start to hurt almost immediately from high action, Or sharp fret ends and no knowledge on how to correct it (even though they send you a tool to adjust truss accordingly) you could just as well ruin the neck if you’re not careful and lacking experience. Hard luck kings who have some pretty cool stuff offer a “professional setup” for an extra fee. I can’t attest to how worth it that setup may be but it’s a step in the right direction. As for me, I’m old school so nothing beats walking into a brick and mortar or mom and pop shop and getting hands on myself! That is becoming a task though with sales moving through the internet as prevalent as they are today!

Yeah, I'm obviously rooting for Nestor to bounce back but I have tempered expectations. Would've been nice to get Yamamoto or Burnes, but nope. Unless Casman/Steinbrenner decide to massively overpay for Snell at the last minute, we're certainly rolling the dice once again.

Hi would you recommend acoustic bass for a beginner I don’t know how to set up electric bass or acoustic and I was thinking is it easier to play and would this bass be good for a beginner.
@MyMusicMasterclass
@MyMusicMasterclass 2 жыл бұрын
Electric bass is technically easier to play as a beginner since the body shape is smaller and the action will most likely be lower. Of course, every instrument varies and nothing is set in stone, but I would go for an inexpensive electric bass with a small practice amp.

To anyone reading this comment, this Wesley Thompson dude is either straight up lying or he bought a knockoff from wish. I'm betting the first one, since a knockoff of a Glarry is better left brandless. The bridge is made of wood, it appears to be cheap rosewood dyed black. The bass isn't great but it won't literally fall apart the second you try to tune it.

No offense, but I find acoustic bass guitars to be one of the most useless instruments ever invented. What are they actually good for? They don't produce enough sound acoustically for sitting around a campfire like a guitar does, and they don't sound better than an electric bass when plugged in. What's the point?
@cptjusticegmail
@cptjusticegmail Жыл бұрын
It's lightweight and can be used for practice where you can't readily bring an electric bass. With an inexpensive acoustic, you also reduce risk of damage to your primary instrument.

It's so much better than playing an unplugged electric bass for one thing, I can't keep my hands off mine! 🙂 It seems loud enough to complement an acoustic guitar to me, as yet, I haven't jammed with it, but it seems about the same volume when I'm singing and playing by myself. If I need to, I'll plug it in, but I'm hoping that I can leave the amp in the car for a change. Much lighter, better balanced, and more comfortable to play sitting down than my vintage P Bass copy, that's for sure. I bought a second hand one, but the neck was bowed beyond what the truss rod can fix, playable, but I recently bought a new one, and the action is pretty good out of the box. The old one, I'll put a trapeze bridge on to further lower the action, and it'll be my knock around, chuck in the car for emergencies bass. For less than $100 usd, they're well worth buying imo!

@@กฤษฎาพรมเทพ Yes, I completely understand. Words are so useless and boring when reviewing instruments. It's much better when someone uses no words and simply plays random notes in no particular order. Are hand signals ok though? Not sign language, since that would technically be words though. I'm just talking about quick hand signals in between the onslaught of random notes. Please let me know if this would suffice.
