Which acoustic bass strings are better? (vlog)

A return to a style of video I'm massively out of practice with - please genuinely do let me know if you'd like to see more like this, I've got plenty of topics to make videos about! These won't replace actual music, just varies things up a bit :)

I've had that same Sigma Mahogany Acoustic for about 6 years. I pretty quickly changed to a set of La Bella nylon tapewounds and haven't looked back. This bass is fantastic too. Highly recommend if anyone is looking for an acoustic bass, reasonably priced and high quality. 👍

The fret buzz will be due to a slightly lower tension. All you needed to do was very slightly loosen the truss rod!

I'm nervous about doing that. I tried before on a cheap acoustic bass and I meesed it up. I have an Ortega Private stripes one on order, so I'll take it to my local music store for a rweak..they normally don't charge for things like that

I strung my Epiphone El Segundo with Fender flat wound electric bass strings (steel). Sounds better than anything else I've tried on it.

Adjust your plucking technique to get a good sound. Try moving your plucking closer to the bridge too, vice versa and find a tone you like. Your attack is pretty aggressive, don’t kill the strings. Obviously have it set up for that guage. Can always mute the strings with the heel of your hand and pluck with your thumb. Takes a little getting used to but its a good technique to get a nice thud.

I have the small Ibanez acoustic and the strings from the factory sound good but they feel rough on the fingers and make a noise when changing notes THESE are the ROUND WOUNDS like most guitar strings. I wish I could find a set of flat wounds on my 25 Inch scale Ibanez Acoustic Electric bass. Thank you very much for the demon and string change video. The Factory Strings are these D'Addario® XTPBB190GS the Range string gauge .037/.050/.062/.090 this measurement is in 1/1000 of an inch.

I would never sacrifice tone for volume. D'Addario black tapewounds and any of the battery-powered amps, if plugging in is a concern. No fret buzz at all with either of my Dean Exoticas with the exact same strings, no need to need to screw around with the nut or truss rod. Not all acoustic basses are the same, of course.

How are you recording the audio in this? And is that the sound of the bass unplugged? If so, it sounds pretty loud for an acoustic bass

I deal with string slap/buzzy sound a lot, I haven’t tried to adjust the action but I feel like that would help

Try a set of Thomas-stik strings, they’re pricey but worth every penny!

I bought an Ibanez AEGB24 acoustic; it came with carbon coated strings and unlike the "buzzy" sound you mention, mine has a "woody" tone ( not much resonance ). So, if anyone ( author included ) could recommend something in between "buzzy" and "woody", please kindly do so.

Nah it was actually because of the action, way too much relief in the neck which I got fixed later that week. Not saying I don’t play too hard, I do, but the problem buzz here was 100% a set up issue :)
