How Good is Your eInk?

I've become aware of a few eInk-specific qualities that I wanted to point out and explore with you all. These are Background Contrast, Line Quality, and what I like to call... The "Screen-To-Display" Ratio (I know, you'll see). I hope that you come away thinking a little more about these qualities when you make your next eInk purchase. Enjoy!

Would have been interesting to see how a b&w EInk device with light like the note air 3 stacks up in this comparison. Definitely brighter than the note air 3 c and the gap to the display will also be smaller but I wonder if it would be as white as an remarkable.

Hello, and I'm not sure. But I'll have the Go 10.3 here soon, and I may request the Note Air 3. Would be nice to test Note Air series against the Go series. And throw in the reMarkable for good measure. Gonna see if I can make some of that, if not all of it, happen. Stay tuned.

I think the word you’re looking for is distance instead of ratio. I would imagine the Kindle Scribe with the footlights would fall between the colors Boox devices and the SuperNote/Remarkable

Hello, and thanks for that correction. "Distance" would have fit waaaaaay better. I'm interested in why you say that about the Kindle Scribe. I haven't used that one yet. Thanks for the comment.

BOOX has always had the best anti-aliasing. I think the supernote does some anti-aliasing while you are writing and then does additional anti-aliasing in the background and the current version - the one you have - may be the best anti-aliasing out of anything on the market today. Also, isn't the remarkable a lower DPI?

Yup, I think the DPI on the reMarkable 2 is 227, and 300 on the NA3C and the Tab Mini C. But sometimes the DPI doesn't tell the full story. And I agree that Boox has the best anti-aliasing. Looks almost too good, lol. Thanks for the comment!

The color ones are inherently different and it's not really a fair comparison to put the color devices up against the black and white devices and that's for a lot of reasons.

I realize that the Kaleido 3 screens are going to be inherently darker do to the extra color layer. But as you saw, even within the Kaleido 3 screens there is variation. I just wanted to show those variations. I also think there's some value in seeing the difference, even between Kaleido, and non-kaleido screens. To show how that extra Kaleido layer actually affects the brightness of the screen. Well, at least that was the hope, lol.

I just got the go 10.3. Its sceen is even whiter than my remakrbale 2. Its very g9od hardware. Im not sold on the software though.
