Hey!! I have just figured out that we are free to use present perfect if we are not mentioning any time even if the action happened years ago Am i right?? Pls answer Please
@SimpleEnglishVideos5 жыл бұрын
Yes, Ritu. A decision to use the present perfect is not dependent on how long ago something happened. It's related to whether the action is finished or not (how long/for/since) or whether the action time reference is definite or indefinite. (ever/never/yet etc)

Is the word "anylonger" no longer used in contemporary English? At school I was taught to use "anylonger" when talking about time and anymore when referring to quantities. Now it seems that "anymore" has replaced "anylonger" as I rarely hear it in conversations.

I plugged these words into ngrams and it shows anymore taking off in the mid sixties: books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=anymore%2C+anylonger&year_start=1800&year_end=2000&corpus=15&smoothing=3&share=&direct_url=t1%3B%2Canymore%3B%2Cc0%3B.t1%3B%2Canylonger%3B%2Cc0

which English-speaking country outside the United States and England has the hardest accent for you to understand? There are eight Portuguese-speaking countries outside Brazil and the accent from Portugal is the most difficult for Brazilians to understand
@SimpleEnglishVideos3 жыл бұрын
Maicon Alexandre, this is Jay writing back to you. I suspect Vicki might have different thoughts on this. But, outside of the UK and the US, there are some countries in Africa where English is spoken eloquently with with an accent I have great difficulty with. When I was in college, i had a roommate from Uganda, and it took me quite a while to follow his speech patterns. Now, that said, the hardest accent for me of all English speakers, is the Georgdi accent found in the North of England near the Scottish border. :-)

Great video, Vicki and Jay! Will recommend it to my students! I have one question though; 'expert' and 'professional' are also followed by 'at'? Thank you :)

Hi Ahmed. Jay here. You prompted me to check with our in-house expert in? at? English Language Training; Vicki of course. And after some discussion, I decided she'd best respond to you directly. So you'll hear from her in the not-too-distant future :-) But in the meantime, you might want to check out this link: forum.wordreference.com/threads/good-at-professional-at-in.1699442/

Great question Ahmed. The answer is no and yes! We're more likely to say 'expert in' eg. She's an expert 'in' data security. But we do say 'at' as well. Here's an ngram chart. books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=expert+at%2Cexpert+in&year_start=1800&year_end=2000&corpus=15&smoothing=3&share=&direct_url=t1%3B%2Cexpert%20at%3B%2Cc0%3B.t1%3B%2Cexpert%20in%3B%2Cc0 So at isn't wrong. It's just less frequent.
