Was Eli Manning Good? To truly capture and evaluate the value of Eli Manning, it is our duty to look back at his historic rise. The best place to start would be during his college years. Eli Manning spent four years at Ole Miss playing in the SEC and had a horrible freshman year. It was truly a disaster given his stats. He played in 6 games only completing 16 passes from 33 attempts for a pass completion percentage of 48.5 percent. He didn’t even score a touchdown but had the misfortune of throwing for one interception. It’s hard to believe given those numbers that Ole Miss would want to keep Eli Manning for another season. But they did and our guess is that Ole Miss did so because of the legacy of the Manning name. Eli’s father Archie was a quarterback for 13 seasons in the NFL and played primarily for the New Orleans Saints. Eli’s brother Peyton needs no introduction but some reminding that he was a 5-time NFL MVP and regarded as one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play.
So it made sense to the head coach of Ole Miss, David Cutcliffe, to give Eli one more chance at the position. In Eli’s sophomore year, there was an explosion of his talent splattered all over the field. Manning played for 11 games throwing 408 times and completing 63.5 percent of his passes. He threw for just under 3,000 yards, scored 31 touchdowns, and only had 9 interceptions. To put things into perspective, those are roughly the same type of stats that Patrick Mahomes had in his sophomore year. It’s greatness matching greatness and in Eli’s case, it was his announcement to the football world that he was born to play this position and to excel in it. That he did in his senior year where he played 13 games and threw for 3,600 yards for a pass completion percentage of 62.4% scoring 29 touchdowns. It was a statement of consistency and reliability which propelled Manning to become the most sought-after player in the 2004 NFL Draft.

I think Eli is criminally underrated. Yes, he threw some boneheaded interceptions and was not the most consistent regular season QB. However, he was good enough to get you to the playoffs then great enough to get you all the way. He was extremely clutch when it mattered most. The fact that he defeated Brady twice in the big game is incredible. Not only that, he beat Favre, Rodgers, and loaded Cowboy and 49er teams on the road to make it to the big game. If the Giants gave him a better offensive line in the back end of his career and more stability in general, I think he could've won a third ring.

Eli had the perfect personality for the New York area as long as you had other leaders on the team. Nothing phased him. His brother was the best regular season QB ever, but he let the pressure of post season get to him. Eli had two playoffs runs that were off the charts. He beat a 15-1 Rogers on the road. Farve in extreme temps on the road. A great defensive team in San Fran on the road.

Every year Manning would average 4000 yards around 30 touchdowns 60 some odd percent never miss a game and put up some big numbers in the Big Apple where most quarterbacks go to die

People seem to forget that Eli never had the consistent coaching ( end of career ), offensive line, running backs, and receivers. Eli threw 27 ints because he literally had no time to let receivers routes develop. Eli did not play with hall of fame offensive players like Peyton. The season that Eli had a lot of success you could tell he was extremely talented.

Eli was an average QB who became super human in the Playoffs. His Manningham throw in SB 46 is the greatest pass completion in NFL history. Given the stakes, the precision, the gamble and the pressure at that point in the game, he solidified his status as a Hall of Famer by that pass alone.

Eli also never missed a day's pay until Mcadope pulled him for Gino Smith. There is only a handful of QB'S you want in crunch time Eli is one of them. Especially on the road.

He dropped it down the chimney during crunch times against TB and company. Twice. Thank you, Eli. Patriot killer.

Eli will always be my favorite player he is by far HOF for sure and a top 20 QB. But, What’s interesting is before he became a clutch QB when needed. At the VERY start of his career many giants fans wanted him gone I think it’s something a lot of people forget. I still do believe to this day that if he had the right o-line he could of gotten one more ring towards the end of his career

Eli should be a HOFer off of the 49ers playoff game alone. That 49ers defense beat him to hell….and he kept getting back up. It was amazing to watch!!!

As a giant fan we were so spoiled by Eli. Dude never missed a snap and we always had a chance to win the game with the ball in his hands. Currently the exact opposite is happening.

What impressed me was he was an iron man. The guy never missed a game and played hurt. I was hoping he was going to be the consecutive games streak held by Favre

It's very simple. Can you sccurately tell the story of the history of the NFL without Eli Manning? With two SB wins and MVPs against the greatest dynasty and QB in NFL history, the answer is no, you cannot. That alone is why Eli will get into thr HOF. Having top 10 stats doesn't hurt, either.

He did alot of this with a re loving door of wr rb and te around him. Then when our OL retired and we had Swiss cheese to guard him he still played decent despite getting sacked and hit the most in the league and still showed up to play next game. He is a honorable, strong willed, talented man. I miss seeing him play.
