Hey everyone, did you know that in terms of competitive gameplay, Flareon is the most useless eeveelution for the job? While it does have an impressive attack stat of 130, which might be tempting for some people to use it for the big dance, what they don’t know is that the rest of its stats are a literal dumpster fire. I mean, do you think you're going to get far with a defense stat of 60? The answer is nope. Its speed and HP stat of 65 won't help matters either. Besides, what does this thing have going for it? Last Resort and Lava Plume, and that's pretty much it. Not to mention that Flareon couldn't even learn Flare Blitz until Generation VI, which sounds nice until you remember the move has recoil damage. With its abysmal HP, atrocious special attack, woeful speed, and horrible defense, Flareon will inevitably be the first Pokémon on your team to faint, which will happen a lot unless you keep healing it or swap it out for something useful. However, there is actually a way for you to make your Flareon really useful, and I know the process for it, too. First, you need to kill your Flareon with any method you see fit. It doesn't matter if it's quick or slow. The only thing that matters is that it's dead. After that, you need to skin its corpse for its fur in order to create something like a fur scarf, a pillowcase, or a towel, depending on your personal preference. But if that doesn't work, then you can go obtain multiple Flareons and keep repeating the process to obtain more fur to create larger objects like fur coats, blankets, bedsheets, rugs, etc. Also, since its fur can reach high temperatures, you'll never experience hypothermia again.

For a while it wasn't even truly a niche Pokemon. Flareon has a lot of power, but doesn't have the speed or bulk to use that power, and is weak to stealth rocks. You can't survive in Pokemon with a base 65 hp and speed, you need one or the other in order to actually get an attack in, and Flareon has neither. Its also completely outclassed as a powerful physical fire type by Entei, Infernape, Darmanitan, and even Arcanine, which are faster and bulkier, while still packing a powerful punch.
@kaelanmcalpine20116 жыл бұрын
I mean, I guess you can maybe make use of it in a normal playthrough of Pokemon and it could work there. Competitive it's complete shit sure but hey, at least I have an idea who to include as my strange one in my first Mono-Fire type Pokemon run, even though Arcanine exists in Ultra Moon but I'm using that for my Popplio playthrough.
@redwings134006 жыл бұрын
Kaelan McAlpine you can use anything in a normal play through of Pokemon and have it work. It can even work in competitive in the right circumstances, just those circumstances are few and far between. You should use what you want to use. That said, flareon sounds really tough to make stand out in a mono fire team. Its moveset offers it absolutely nothing against Pokemon that counter fires (golem/rhydon/waters), and it will beat the Pokemon literally everyone else on your team can beat too. Good luck, I hope you find a good use for it.
@kaelanmcalpine20116 жыл бұрын
Well about the first part, I'm sure there's exceptions to that though, which I guess would be any Pokemon with a BST of
@redwings134006 жыл бұрын
Both pokemon seem pretty good in mono-fairy, Mr Mime especially because its psychic type moves can beat poison types (gardevoir is probably technically better for this role but both would work). Again, you can make anything work in pokemon, but for mono-type teams, secondary types that counter types that you're weak to are pretty useful. Azumarill or Primarina would be a good addition to that team because they can beat steel types, especially primarina since most steels are physically defensive. People have completed pokemon games with a single magikarp, though, the leveling system and items make the game relatively trivial if you're willing to do enough grinding (I mean, Twitch can beat pokemon games). Certain pokemon will struggle more than others though, and a good team composition helps you beat the game at lower levels/with fewer/no items.
@redwings134006 жыл бұрын
Just by the way, I'm not meaning to discourage you from doing monotype teams, it can be a pretty fun limitation. I've done it in the past with ghost, psychic, and steel teams before in game, and enjoyed it. Trying to create workable teams using limitations like that is something I really enjoy doing, definitely worthwhile. If I were creating a fire type monoteam I'd try to get pokemon that learn solarbeam and sunny day, and go all out with the fire type theme, while also getting good pokemon with secondary typings.

Byron Slowe Thats a funny way of spelling Mega Sableye
@matthewkuscienko46166 жыл бұрын
Actually, that's not 100% accurate: Sableye had a decent niche carved out for itself in gen5 thanks to it gaining Prankster as it's hidden ability; it even can put it to good use if you don't want to Mega it right away, such as to use Taunt on something to stop it from being able to set up, for example. It's other abilities, Keen Eye and Stall, are trash, no two ways about it, and even with Prankster, while Sableye wasn't amazing (it still had it's bad stats and lackluster typing that gave it little it the way of resistances to capitalize on holding it back), but at the very least it was SOMETHING to make it a little bit relevant. It even got placed in a higher tier than Spiritomb on Smogon in gen5 all because of that ability, and the fact that it had the moves to take advantage of it made a difference: it's actually the same reason as to why Smeargle is not that bad; it's stats might be trash, but the tools it does have give it enough to set it apart and give people a reason to actually consider it for their team.

@TARINunit93 жыл бұрын
Fluffy doesn't sound like it would help much. You get rid of a Flareon with Earthquake, Rock Slide, and water moves, none of which make contact. Fur Coat MIGHT help, giving it a de facto 120 defense. This won't protect it from water, but it does stop Earthquake, Rock Slide, and fighting moves
@GIR1773 жыл бұрын
@@TARINunit9 Abilities like Fur Coat and Huge Power don't double the Pokémon's base stat, they double the actual stat. So Huge Power does not give Azumarill base 100 Attack (Base 50 x 2), but actually the equivalent of base 149 Attack when fully invested (218 x 2 = 436).
@saltpoweredrobot56253 жыл бұрын
Flareon in my opinion needs these changes to be somewhat decent: Its stats get swapped around: This: HP: 65 Attack: 130 Defense: 60 Sp. Atk: 95 Sp. Def: 110 Speed: 65 Becomes this: HP: 65 Attack: 130 Defense: 60 Sp. Atk: 110 Sp. Def: 65 Speed: 95 Now its speed isn't horrible, and it can now actually use its numerous special fire moves along with its few physical. These stats still follow the pattern followed by all Eveelutions, and isn't currently in use by any of them (Fucking Buff Flareon before you make another Eveelution Gamefreak!) Next, get rid of Guts, and give it either Drought or Fur Coat as hidden abilities, or even both as some Pokémon get three abilities anyway (guess you would have to do the same to the other Eveelutions, but I doubt anyone would complain about that). Drought lets it function both as a Sun Team setup, and also helps it in a solo sense as it will buff its fire moves, and help it when given specific moves mentioned below. Fur Coat (as you mentioned before) would patch up it's physical fragility quite a bit, and would be a great ability for a Special focused Flareon, as it wouldn't have to worry about losing health with recoil moves, AND its somewhat bulky to boot. Guts isn't all that useful (imo) as a hidden ability. It could be instead used to replace Flash Fire, which is quite frankly a horrible ability as it's so situational and hard to take advantage of (compared to Guts, which you can consistently take advantage of). New Moves: Solar Beam (Flareon is the only fully evolved fire type who can't learn it), Morning Sun, Wild Charge, Dragon Rush, Crunch (Bite alternative), Flame Wheel (not super important, but the more physical fire moves the merrier), Close Combat, and Cotton Guard (Flareon is already a fluffy Pokémon, it fits imo). Having Drought as an ability would make Solar Beam incredible on it as coverage to deal with its to biggest weaknesses: Water and Ground, and Morning Sun's incredible healing capabilities under the Intense Sun effect would keep Flareon in the fight longer when using recoil inducing moves. Wild Charge is another great coverage option that is physical, and Dragon Rush is incredibly strong, with Flinch potential. Cotton Guard would also let a Drought Flareon become bulky enough to take a few hits if it doesn't have the Fur Coat ability. Also, Close Combat is really there -for the memes- because it already learns Superpower, so Close Combat isn't that much of a stretch. Also, Superpower cuts Flareon's Attack and Defense, while Close Combat cuts Defense and Sp. Defense, so having both moves would be giving the player the choice between which stats they want to lower. Granted, all of this does NOT make Flareon OU material. Pure Fire typing is horrible, and there are other Pokémon that have better movepools and more unique gimmicks that Flareon can't really compete with. That being said this change would hopefully make Flareon at the very least comparable to the other popular Eveelutions like Jolteon, Espeon, and Umbreon (maybe not as popular as Vaporeon or Sylveon though).

Update to Gen 7 and Gen 8: Gen 7 was the same old story for Flareon. It was PU. On the good side, PU was lacking on Fire types (are you really going to use things like Magcargo? Ugh) so it was maybe a good check to things like Abomasnow or the dreaded Eviolite Ferroseed/Tangela, right? Sadly, no. Flareon was outclassed by Combusken of all things and the PU meta was unkind to it, with things like Carracosta, Jellicent, and both of Kanto fossils. So... Untiered. Gen 8 was an attempt for Flareon to use a Specially Defensive Set. Wish+Protect, Toxic, Heal Bell or Will-O-Wisp, and Flare Blitz or Lava Plume. It had a very little niche in OU, for checking Clefable and Rotom Heat, apart from scare Ferrothorn, and... Yup, little niche means drop all the way down, to NU. In NU, its mission was to scare Abomasnow and some Rotom appliances, but it was both stopped cold (pun intended) and outclassed as a Fire type by Rapidash, which also had Flash Fire and only minded a potential Toxic. So... Down to PU, where once again it is one of the very few Fire types in a tier full of Water and Rock types (geez, this is just cruel), alongside Heatmor and Raboot.

Yanma honestly sucked, but Yanmega is actually pretty decent. 2 solid abilities in Tinted Lens and Speed Boost give it some fun toys to play around with, and it's stats (whilst not exactly great) are pretty good, too. It's still held back by it's typing (bug/flying isn't very good, and loses 1/2 HP because of Stealth Rock) and not having the greatest movepool in the world. It's not as bad as, say, Vespiquen, but to be honest, it could be significantly better.

I used to run an evolution set nicknamed after Egyptian gods way back in Stadium 2, and Flareon was Seth the undesirable. His speed already sucked, so I ran him with Curse to make the most of that sky high attack while mitigating his low defense. I also ran with him Frustration, to further drive home the point of just how much he hated his life. Seriously, being slow as Umbreon, but without any of the bulk to back it up really makes Flareon the most unfortunate of the Eeveelutions. The poor little guy could really use a total overhaul, but that seems unlikely to ever happen. About the best we could hope for is that maybe one of these days he could get a signature move.

It...wasn't too much better than Flareon sadly. Pure Ice type with physical defense, and most moves it would use Vaporeon would do better. Glaceon looks good, but is sadly outclassed. (also_Ice_type_suuucks.jpeg)
@sealandrelevant13106 жыл бұрын
Even worse is that they would go on to repeat the mistake of trying to make a defensive pure Ice. So now we have Glaceon and Avalugg...
@matthewkuscienko46166 жыл бұрын
I like Glaceon, don't get me wrong; but it's not that good, and that can be owed in no small part to it's pure ice typing and low speed stat. Truthfully, though, the Eeveelutions are all pretty hit or miss: Espeon is decent, but outclassed by Alakazam offensively, Umbreon is bulky, but dark isn't really a good defensive type, Vaporeon has a lot of HP, but is slow, (and there is literally a shitton of other water types you could choose from instead) Jolteon is fast and pretty strong, but it's shallow movepool lets it down, Leafeon has one of the single worst types in the game (not saying that there isn't any merits to the grass type, but it isn't good defensively and is even worse offensively), but it's movepool also isn't that good, and Sylveon, while very cute, is mostly only as good as it is because fairy is such an AMAZING type. Unfortunately, though, in every one of these cases, there's probably a better Pokemon you could pick from for each of these types.
@Rougealienpirate6 жыл бұрын
This. Really after a while only vaporeon and jolteon (and espeon but only cause of it's hidden ability.) became the only good ones while the rest were outclass or just bad beyond baton pass gimmicks. The eeveelutions are all cursed with linear stat spreads, poor movepools, and stuck in monotyping which is becoming more hindering each passing gen.

I have looked over the data and determined that, of the existing moves in the game at time of writing, a Belly Drum/Baton Pass team ending on passing a +6 ATK to Flareon with Fire Lash, Solar Blade, Bounce, and Protect in a DynaMax-enabled format would be the theoretical best the flaming fluff ball could hope for without going outside what moves Flareon could reasonably be expected to produce. Fire Lash would be smacking the enemy with its tail Solar Blade is just a solar energy construct Bounce is just animejumping really high. This theoretical Flareon's tactics would be to immediately Dynamax and use MAX Airstream twice to get +2 Speed, followed by MAX Flare on its last MAX turn to set up Sun to enhance Fire Lash's power and make Solar Blade's casting time immediate. One of the Airstreams could be made MAX Overgrowth for the Grassy Terrain or if a Water or Ground type showed up to snuff its flames out. Of course, this Theory Set does little to assist Flareon's fragility and unhelpful Abilities, but becoming an embodiment of "The Best Defense Is A Good Offense" is the most I could get for it.

To the shock of nobody, In Gen 7, Flareon sits in PU, still sucking. No wonder that Flareon in Eevee & Friends is so shy and reclusive and wants nobody to bother it. Poor thing. Flareon needs something drastic, like a powerful priority Fire Move exclusive to itself. It won't make it good, but at least it will have a niche, and some times a niche is all you need.
@TheJH10156 жыл бұрын
Let's brainstorm here. As a new physical Fire type move that should be an option on multiple pokemon: Fire Tail, 90 power, 100% accuracy, 10% chance to boost Defense. Priority move: Fire Dash, 40 power, 100% accurate, priority +2. Flareon also needs a better HA like Rock Head, Quick Feet or Speed Boost, and a better movepool in general :/ give it stuff like Wild Charge, Energy Ball, Nasty Plot, Crunch, Knock Off, EQ, Rock Slide, Stone Edge etc.
@ultimaterecoil11366 жыл бұрын
TheJH1015 I got an idea. Give it a physical fire move that also uses half of its special attack plus it's attack to calculate the damage. Other Pokemon that are really bad could benifit from this to like poliwrath for instance just make it a water type move. Basically any Pokemon that isn't viable that has somewhat close attack and special attack give them a move like that.
@PinHeadSupliciumwtf6 жыл бұрын
base it's dmg type on the higher stat (after accounting for boosts) to make it a little more interesing

@Chris Anderson You're misunderstanding their uses. Flareon's niche is defensive, not offensive. Obviously, if your team needs an offensive fire type you use Cinderace, but if you need a defensive answer to special attackers like Clefable, you wouldn't. Wasn't trying to say Flareon is magically a good Pokemon, just that it finally has a valid niche

@Chris Anderson Bro people are literally using Flareon in OU right now and having success. It's ranked C+ on the Smogon OU viability rankings, which again isn't amazing, but it is viable. Ferrothorn, Toxapex, and Corviknight actually can't stop offensive Clefable because of its great coverage in Flamethrower and Thunderbolt. That's where Flareon's typing helps it. And while you're correct that Sylveon is overall better, Flareon can do something against Clefable in particular that Sylveon can't: hit it back hard with Flare Blitz. Like, I'm not just pulling this out of my ass. It's a real strategy that works. It can also burn switch ins and pass wish to teammates. Specially defensive Flareon with Wish, Protect, Will-O-Wisp, Flare Blitz and heavy duty boots.

Sadly it won't last long in OU as once the better Fire Types ( Heatran, Infernape, Volcorona etc) come back, it will fall off OU Good to see it in OU for once though

@@bryanc1772 yeah Heatran will be back to invalidating every other defensive fire type once again. Yaaaaay.

Tony Brandt It's good to see in Flareon in OU for once It's niche is small at best though once the former OU Fire Titans ( Heatran, Volcarona, Infernape etc) come back it probably will drop out of OU Im not sure if Arcanine is in Swords and Shield but even he outclasses Flareon ( intimidate , Morning Sun , Snarl) as a better Defensive Fire Flareon better enjoy it while its still in OU

they need to update all eeveelutions to have the following stat line: 130, 110, 100, 90, 75, 75. to make Flareon usable it would have to be HP: 90 Att: 130, Def: 100, Spatt: 75, Spdef: 110 and speed 75.
