Technically Chuck Liddell got me into mma cause I specifically remember seeing him on Spike one day when it showed their stats and he looks alot like my dad, who basically looks like you're crazy uncle that rides with a MC and you're parents warn you to stay away from. And then, there was Forrest. I loved rooting for that guy. Just seemed like a genuine respectable dude.
@Figs34 жыл бұрын
@@miasma5552 Actually. Maybe I should change my words. The Chuck and Tito beef introduced me to MMA because of how insane it was back then. But Forrest turned me into a proper FAN. Idk I'm just a huge fan of his. He seems like someone you could be friends with, and grab a drink. No drama, just laughs. Doesn't take himself too seriously, which is refreshing in any athlete, regardless of the sport. Like I said, I'm mature enough to admit he's in nobodies GOAT conversations. Lol But he's my favorite because of the type of person he is. I'll always root for the guy.

@First Name Last Name True, I think Tito and Randy as well. When the UFC was hemorrhaging money those three gave a glimmer of hope. When Tito headlined UFC 40 and that event made a profit, it could've been a different story if it didn't. I think Spike TV deserve some credit as well for broadcasting The Ultimate Fighter when all the other networks turned it down, the UFC had to pay for production themselves though. I think ultimately, pardon the pun MMA would've made it's way into the mainstream eventually.

@@jimmynich4791 the UFC potentially would have made it into the mainstream spotlight. But without this fight there is a huge chance the company would have gone into bankruptcy. Chuck, Tito and Randy definitely carried the sport for several years ( even after TUF). But the Forrest/ steph fight catapulted the UFC into a whole new stratosphere and put MMA on the map. So I’m my opinion, without this fight. The UFC would not be what it is today. Forrest, steph, Dana and spike TV deserve all the credit for taking the UFC from a company barely able to pay the bills to the superpower it is today!

I love Forrest Griffin, I watched him when the Ultimate Fighter was on Spike TV and you had to wait for what felt like an eternity for the next episode. I was screaming watching his first fight with Bonnar. His greatest attribute was his heart, followed by his cardio. To me, he represented what an average Joe was capable of if they were hungry, and willing to give it their all. His loss to Silva was brutal, but after watching his win over Franklin, I felt he just didn't have that hunger.

@@chrishandsome4267 I think it's because in his prime, there was no lightweight belt to fight for, so he had to fight at 170, and he still did very well, but it was also the dark days of the UFC and few were paying any attention to guys from that era 1999-2003, especially if they weren't a champ. And while he beat a lot of top notch competitors in those 4 years, he also fought 12 straight tin cans between his losses to Hughes and GSP. All in all I still give Sherk's career Hall of Fame status. A defending champ and yeah, his 4 losses were to the 2 greatest fighters in welterweight history, and 2 greatest at lightweight history until Khabib entered the discussion.
