I like how Gen 1 Mewtwo was designed to be beyond broken, other legendaries after it were made to be stronger and tankier than regular pokémon, but gen 1 Mewtwo was so absurdedly over the top, it was great. In a gen were most pokémon had very very limited movepools, and base stats like around 100/105 were considered pretty good, Mewtwo had: best typing and STAB in the game; huge movepool with access to almost every great move like Amnesia, Blizzard and Recover; 130 speed, making it the second fastest mon in the game for no reason, and 154 spA, which at the time was just complete insanity. And Mewtwo is bulky too, it had no business being that busted, but it was, and it was amazing. The fact that it was a final boss in Stadium, and you could still lose even when countering it, says a lot about it.

But yea Mewtwo is the best RBY Pokemon there were still a few ways of handling it like freezing it, blowing up on it, status it, Seismic toss/Ice Beam Chansey, Self destruct Snorlax, Swords Dance Mew, Explosion Exeggutor, Amensia Slowbro l, and Ice Beam Mewtwo.

Note for anybody who doesn't understand why 101 HP Substitutes enable Mewtwo to beat Blissey: Blissey's most common attacking move is Seismic Toss, which, at level 100, does exactly 100 damage. As such, a 101 HP Substitute means it needs to Toss twice to break one of Mewtwo's Subs.

That's why you don't ever send out your Mewtwo first. You''ll want to hold onto it until the very end , because the other player will always try to specifically counter your Mewtwo. Something like a Snorlax body slam followed by a self-destruct; Chansey thunderwaving it; Eggsecutor or Jynx inflicting sleep on it; Even Electrode is very effective at dealing with it, as he's good at finishing weakened pokemon off.

Not Exactly A Human Being Since Chansey ususally uses Softboiled to shugg off special hits, Mewtwo can just use Psychic repeatedly until Special Drops happen. +6 Mewtwo Psychic vs. Chansey through Light Screen: 158-186 (22.4 - 26.4%) -- 17.4% chance to 4HKO +6 Mewtwo Psychic vs. - 2 Chansey through Light Screen: 314-369 (44.6 - 52.4%) -- 20.2% chance to 2HKO Chansey will eventually crumble to Special Drops even with Light Screen on. You can always use Submission too but its not even a guranteed 2OHKO and you take a lot of recoil in the process Mewtwo Submission vs. Chansey: 336-396 (47.7 - 56.3%) -- 86.7% chance to 2HKO Same applies for Snorlax

@@sonix7769 no, it can't. Mewtwo actually survives choice scarf dragon ascent without any defensive investment (mega mewtwo doesn't but you aren't forced to mega evolve). Here's the thing, mega ray also survives mewtwo's ice beam but mewtwo is still faster if it also runs scarf. Those two are so extremely versatile that there are a thousand different things that could happen if they meet on the battlefield. Of course, mega rayquaza is the better pokemon overall (there IS a reason why it is banned from ubers) but doesn't change the fact that mega rayquaza actually loses against certain mewtwo sets (choice specs with ice beam wins an 1v1 against most if not almost every offensive variant of mega ray but some variants with defensive investment would beat it)

There's just something so hype about a Pokemon that's been consistently overpowered and useful in every generation since the very original. Even when more threats came in to take the spotlight and things that made it so great in past games received major nerfs, it still found threatening and unique usage in the Uber tier. Mewtwo has a bit of an overrated reputation, but for good reason; people think it's such a powerful Pokemon because it's shown us that it IS just about as powerful as people claim. I just love the idea of there being a Pokemon that was so broken in the original games, due to limitations and oversights such as amnesia being stupidly good, yet it manages to adapt and overcome new threats, nerfs, and the infamous power creep. I've never been much of a Mewtwo enthusiast, but I thought this was a really exciting and informative episode to watch, as I was kinda rooting for him to stay relatively on top through each generation; he WAS engineered to be the most powerful Pokemon, after all. Well done!

Sounds about right. My older brother had a friend who had 6 mewtwos because he traded from his other pokemon game and gameboy and was simply unbeatable. He had specialized the movesets to have total type coverage twice over so even if through attrition a mewtwo did go down it had another that could still counter whatever got a lucky crit or barely picked it off after sacrificing 1 or 2 other pokemon first to weaken it.

I'm currently playing a fangame called Pokemon Zeta and Mewtwo has a holdable item called strange machine and this makes gives it dope looking (but only cosmetic) armor that updates its sprite in battles and in the overworld, but most importantly gives it this OP skill called hubris, which increases it's special attack every time it gets a KO. With a pokemon that can already OHKO a lot of others, giving it even higher attack with each subsequent KO is absolutely a killer. So much fun.
