Growing up in the 70s, 80s, and early 90s, Prime Liverrpool was just beautiful to watch, every player a gem from legends like Dalgleish, Hansen, Rush, Clemence, Neal, Whelen, Thompson, Nicol, Toshack, Keegan, Case, McDermott, Lee, Hughes, Aldridge and co. Then you would have a super sub like David Fairclough come on and win a game, or fullback Alan Kennedy come in clutch. Graeme Souness was always my favourite player with his brutal aggression, silky passing, thunderbolt shooting, and ability to control a game. Liverpool, the city was so strong too, with Everton having a great team and battling it out for 1st Division superiority with The Reds. There were some classic match ups between the city giants as well as peak Nottingham Forest. It truly was a special time.

That 5-0 game against Forest around that time, described as the best Liverpool performance ever for many years after by us "older" supporters, and even critics. What an era to be alive. I believe the team of the late 70's & early 80's would have been some force in today's premier league. I know the game has become quicker but the LFC team back then was insanely good. Also, the team of the late 80's with Barnes, Aldridge, Beardsley and co were sublime. If English teams weren't banned from European footy then I believe we would have won a couple more European cups in the 80's. And that's with the might of AC Milan in the late 80's early 90's.

The team that liverpool had during the 70s and 80s was truly magnificent. King kenny is still the best player we have ever had. One major point from the start: neither Arsenal or Man United had eras of dominance in the English game up to the 1950s when Liverpool started their reemergence from the 2nd division. Before then Arsenal had one period of dominance in the early 30s under Chapman, and Man Utd just emerged under Matt Busby, but it was Stan Cullis' Wolves side that were the no.1 team in England. Up to that point teams like Sunderland, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Preston shared the trophies. Liverpool themselves had periods at the turn of the 20th century and the early 20s, although both Arsenal and Man U had earlier FA cup success.

Them prime Liverpool sides throughout the 80s would have beaten any team in any era of the game. They had unbelievable spine of a team of individuals multiple of them were leaders in team with flair and goals added with it. There wasn't any weakness in whole squad that's why they dominated in English & European football. Could have easily won more doing that time. People have said one of best games doing that time was Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest at Anfield. Where Liverpool won like 9-0 doing a league game someone once said Liverpool that night could have beaten prime Brazil team that's how great they were.

Same happened to me in 1974. At school I was torn on who to be up for in the upcoming FA cup final between Liverpool and Newcastle. My mind was made up on the morning of the match when my mum’s friend dropped off a bag full of hand me down clothes, right at the bottom of the bin liner was a satchel type sports bag, it was red with Liverpool FC printed on it. From that day on I was Liverpool mad, but unfortunately was unable to go to games because my dad wasn’t really a huge football fan. During my teens I started attending my home club Blackburn Rovers games because all my friends were going and I didn’t want to be left out. Also it was only £1.50 paid at the turnstiles. I must admit that I switched my allegiance to an inferior club playing in the second division but still to this day have a huge soft spot for Liverpool. It is however sad to see the game change so much from what I grew up with, a time when more than just a handful of clubs had a good chance of winning silverware. It’s hard to believe that teams like Derby, West Ham, even Everton were winning trophies back then.

@@Tarps-b2h I mean less points, even if converted to three points. Second hand treble. And they didn’t win 18 times in the 70s / 80s

@@Tarps-b2h Less points when winning titles, because the times were MORE competitive, with sometimes nearly half the teams in the league looking capable of mounting a legitimate title challenge (even Shitty, in their pre-corporate-oil era, managed to top the table half-way through the 1981-82 season).
