Hi Danielle, the women are not employees of Baraka so we do not pay wages by the hour. Instead we purchase the finished shea butter directly from the community at approximately 25% above the current market price. We also go directly to the community so they also do not need to carry their product to the market where it may not sell. Baraka Shea Butter was started by Gifty Serbeh-Dunn, a Ghanaian, when the women in her home community asked her how they could earn an income. Therefore it is core to our business that the women are paid a premium for their product. You can find out more here: barakasheabutter.com/sheabutter_blog/the-dignity-of-income/.

“Give a man a fish he will eat for a day -teach a man to fish he will eat for the rest of his life”. They could teach several of the young ladies the business aspects of the company so that the Ghanaian women,who has been doing this for years and are the true founders, could operate the business themselves and receive more of the profits. Baraka are partners or distributors but definitely not founders or cofounders- they should change that. If it was possible I would buy directly from the Ghanaian women.

I love the way the process is still done mostly by hand instead of big industrial machines. Arms don’t need tons of electric to work and better for the environment too! One of the few fats that actually hydrate skin cells ( help draw moisture from the atmosphere and other face products into the cells) on the upper dermis rather than just stopping moisture loss. Such a hero product! Lots of vitamins too and essential fatty acids.

This is the most detailed video that has cleared my vision..... It's too much work for these women. They would be getting enough money from the hard work they do. I'm really impressed to be honest. It takes them months to get the product according to the season. Thx for the great upload sis. I'm proud to be an African. The strongest ever!

I want to purchase some products from your site but I would like to know if these women are paid well and fair. Also, are they treated well and with respect? If someone could get back to me and guarantee these ladies are compensated for their work, I will purchase. Thanks.

Hi there, thanks for caring. We pay above market value for the shea butter and have a community fair trade agreement with the women. We also directly support projects in the community, such as purchasing school uniforms and supplies. You can learn more here if you are interested: barakasheabutter.com/women-community/

So much of hard work they are doing.And all the cosmetic companies will not be giving them the right price for the labour they pour in. Lots of love to all of them who are working.

I’ve been using Shea butter of my ancestors for years. It keeps my skin and hair moist. I hope these companies are having fair trade. When I started seeing European people using it. They thought it was something new. Not knowing it been used for centuries in west Africa and other African countries.
@BarakaSheaButter3 жыл бұрын
Shea butter is certainly amazing! Ours is all made by hand using age-old techniques passed down through generations. At Baraka, all our products are also community fair trade and we will always pay a premium to the women who make our shea butter.

Woooooow. Amazing. This is a very tedious procedure tho. I'm so glad they have at least machines to help them, wish they could have more to aid them. But I'm glad it provides a lot of benefits for them especially financially.
