I think you should do a presenter challenge where you have to buy or build a bike for the least money possible Then race them on an XC course, an Enduro course and then a game of bike. At the end score them on their individual performances on each stage and deduct points for how much they spent on the bike. That way there is an incentive to buy as cheap as possible. It would be very Top Gear, but that sort of content would be awesome

What I will say is this is a pretty rough trail, for a budget bike, Which isn’t exactly a full trail bike but a mixture of different niches. But yk you can easily get cheap upgrades when absolutely needed!

Have the Talon 3, good intro bike up to blue trails esp if you put a slightly shorter stem on it and can find a 120mm Manitou Marvel fork for it. I did a 1x conversion with Ebay parts and it's a XC weapon now when the full squish is too much for those trails. Sure Seth used to ride some trails in Florida when he lived there but if that's near you I don't know.

The problem now is that I have a deposit on a 2022 X-Caliber 9, which will arrive sometime next March. As it is now too similar to what I have, I may upgrade my order to a full suspension bike.

This makes me feel really good, and a bit bad too.... becuase this kinda is my bike, close enough (I've a 2012 Trek Mamba) and when you don't have all the money or bike availability of a pro team, then you have to ride what you have. I love my bike, and I love mountain biking. So I just have to keep that in mind with all the FOMO that watching MTB video's gives me. I'm also learning to fix the bike, and install different parts, and tune the gears, and do some of the mechanics. I think that it's been really valuable for that reason. All of my friends who have expensive bikes just take them into the shop to get them fixed, and I'd like to be self sufficient if I can in the future. Great video... becuase it does show what a cheaper bike can do when in the hands of the right rider! I've also got a rear tyre insert!! Because that's a MUST on a beginners cheap bike!!

I ride a 2017 Voodoo Bizango, and have steadily upgraded the bike since buying it. 140mm fork, dropper, Hope wheels etc. Only standard thing really now is literally the frame. Didn’t have the budget to buy a more expensive bike from the outset, but when the time comes that I want a new frame, I can transfer these parts over. Right from new it felt good, and a massive step up from my old bike, but now it will handle anything I throw at it, although we’re talking reds and a few black bits. Love the bike!

I got hold of a Cannondale F9 for my son. Swapped out the wheels for sunringles with the red anodised hubs and fitted budget ClarksM2's. It runs beautifully on the trails and on a pump track. The Dart2 forks remain, but i had fun refurbishing them, and they will be upgraded as some point to something plush. Astronomical prices for eg Pivot cant be justified unless you are racing regularly. Thanks for this. How about a budget build series?

A skilled rider can ride any bike well, unless a bite is do bad Tha ti's impossible, which means a bike that bends and folds and breaks as you ride it, yes those exist, but those are bottom of the line and not safe to ride especially for heavy riders, but very different to this Voodoo. Like those super cheap Wallmart bikes. But a bike that fits and has a good geometry helps alot, with reducing fatigue and make riding it easier. But expensive does not mean good, nor budget friendly bad. It depends.

Great vid rich. I ride a Boardman Mtr 2021 which for me was a very expensive bike. I love it and have done a lot of great non technical/technical routes on it and it has performed great for me. Please GBMN do more vid's for bikes normal people's budgets can afford :). No way I can justify more than 2K on a bike.........

Thing is Voodoo frames are grate, designed by Joe murray a MTB pioneer he's forgot more than properly most of us put together know when it comes to bikes and frame design,people don't realise that the frames them self's are grate,it's the components that make them so budget and don't let them get a look in,if voodoo did a high spec bike it would be up there with the rest
@gryyta96173 жыл бұрын
Well, yes, of course a high end version would be as good as others in the high price range...thing is the big brands cheap bikes are even more flimsy than this one!

Bang on there lad! My Bantu frame has taken some huuuuge impacts and it's as fresh as new still 2 years down the line!! Voodoo are the Kings of bang for buck with bikes!!!
@Mainlyrock__10172 жыл бұрын
@@mikearmstrongofficial1725 there's nothing wrong with the strength of voodoo frames I have a voodoo hoodoo myself it's just the geometry of the head tube angle that's a bit skewed compared to a trek Marlin or giant talon for the same price but you do get better gears & brakes with the voodoo.

I have this bike that bar some V12s and a dropper is stock, and it was a cracking place to start for the money. I’ve done over 1500 miles on it, and The only complaint is the rear spokes snap quite easily (though that’s probably my poor riding style) I’ve since got a decent full sus and have a slacker hard tail on order to scratch the hard tail itch. But I’m keeping the venerable Hoodoo as a bike equivalent of a family wagon. It’s a year old it has a shotgun seat on the front and a Hamax on the back and my daughter moves going for rides on and it doesn’t owe me a single thing. Great bike that got me into MTB 🙌

I ride a 2019 trek marlin 6. Original suspension, upgraded to a sram eagle nx, installed a dropper, upgraded tires and better flats. I love that bike. I’ve put over 2k miles on it. Lots of rugged techy trail. I beat up the wheels a lot. That’s the one component that seems to not hold up. I need to ride tubes with high pressure to keep them in tact. Or buy wheels that cost more than the frame-which seems silly. It would be great to see something that speaks about how to get the longest life out of a wheel.

Would rather a better known brands used bike for same money like a used specilized rockhopper or the likes

@@vtecmossy So you'd be willing to downgrade to a coil fork, a 2x drivetrain, and Tektro brakes? I wouldn't.

great vid, but i was impressed by the song choice at 4:20 , and checking the replay graph i guess i'm not alone. Now i'm stuck listening to that song on repeat. Killrude - Reload FYI

I get all this.. But making ur rims tubeless and have thicker walled tires are what you usually upgrade first yourself anyways..?

I use a Cube Aim SL from 2016 with a similar Fork (SR Suntour XCM) and budget Shimano 3x8 drivetrain (Acera RD-M360/Altus FD-M313-M6). Didn't upgrade anything besides little grippier pedals

I have a Rockrider ST 520, hardtail, and it was €300,-. It does what it needs to do, and I think that's all that matters, because thanks to that bike I get to enjoy mountainbiking.

I have One my self and pet me tell you its probably the best budget full suspension bike out there... Based on and old cheap but rellyable monopivo the rear works better than it was suposed on such a cheap bike That cames with a similar suntour xcr gork like the One on this vodoo... A great base for upgrades and we can increase travel on the front until 140 MMS though the steer tube is not tappered... I upgrades mine with a Shimano deore 2x10 grpupset and brakes with 180 MMS disc at front and continental tires... It can handle the trails on the test quite fine wothout breaking anithing and the rear sistem is quiet and noisly or clicking noises free it was Nice to see someone pusjing it hard

Wider handlebar, shorter stem, second hand maxis High Roller DH Tires... And 1x9 (with a sweet 11-50 cassette i puchased realy cheap to Match with a 34t plate.) tansmition. Is fun to ride And can take what i throw at it at My level of progresion... I bought it second hand And it came with a Nice RockShox 100mm travel aire fork And i'm keeping it like that. For the moment is all i can aford And all i need. Thanks for the video. I loved that -so called- budget Bike I would kill to have a setup like that.

Does this bike even have hydraulic brakes? And the fork, is it air suspension or is it coil spring suspension?
