We did half dome hike with a 9yr old in 1988 in one day! I was terrified but so glad I had the opportunity' The cables will challange you!. Another great hike is the high country via Tuolumne Meadows & Tanya Lake...most beautiful lake I've ever seen & swam in. Departure horses (or you hike) took us up to the Lake Vogalsang 10K altatude. Had a mom bear & 3 cubs show up at 3AM. Scarey but cool as we were in tent & Mama was pushing on my head thru tent wall🥵 Banging pans & whistles don't work!!!!! We're still alive...lol They're sevral lodges throughout the 1-2 week hike back down to the valley. They have hot showers, scrub board laundry & food! I saw things most people on this earth have no idea exits! Slid down the rocks on river in safe places & met the most interesting & kind people...but that was the 80's..lol

My hands were sweating watching you two climb! I’ve been there when I was young with family and didn’t see the waterfall. Epic, and a natural high you won’t forget. I climbed in Banff to the upper hot springs and was so happy when I went back to work totally worth it. You can show the kids the video they’ll love that they had a babysitter! ☕️🇺🇸👍🏻‼️🥂

Hey guys, I’ve done half dome! One of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever done in my life! I’ve also done clouds rest. It’s the high granite ridge to the north of half dome that rises to over 10k feet in elevation! California is a spectacular state and Yosemite is its crown jewel! I’m so happy you all are experiencing the state I was born and lived in for 62years of my life!

Aww I love that you travel “with your dad”. I lost my mom from cancer when she was 50 and I have been traveling with her ever since for your same reasons. I had the incredible chance to do this hike this weekend. My friend, who won the lottery, brought me with her. I never really imagined doing this hike, because I am not a fit person and I never really thought I could do it. I made it to the base of sub-dome but we had to turn around there as a storm had rolled in and we were hearing thunder and seeing menacing clouds above us. I'm not sure I would've done sub-dome and the cables if the weather had been on our side, because just getting to sub-dome was the hardest thing I've ever done. My friend is so frustrated and sad not to have been able to do the cables, she has waited years for this permit. I wish it was easier to get one so we could go back and try again! This time, I'd be more prepared. Thank you for sharing your journey!

Then I snapped my fingers twice and life happened. Now I am a 57-year-old grandfather unable to physically make that hike so thank you very much.

Our kids are pretty much your age and we are celebrating our 50 yr anniversary this year. When we were your age we did so many nature hikes, not half dome, but we all have so many memories of great family times. That is way more important than anything else we could do in life. Congratulations and Happy Anniversary!!! What an epic way to celebrate! Half Dome is on my bucket list, but at 51, my husband and I plan to backpack into Little Yosemite Valley backpacking camp and finish Half Dome the following day. The full on day hike is just a little too much for us. Done the Mist Trail many times and that's quite strenuous on its own. I was 14 years old the first time and it simply never gets old. Glad to see that you brought plenty of water and the ability to treat more water if necessary. Dehydration is a big reason people need rescue off that trail every year. Yosemite is such an amazing place and I am so thankful to live in California where I have been able to experience so much of her amazing grandeur. I can't wait to see what your next adventure is here in CA. Happy and safe travels!
