Yes, new subscriber here. You make us feel like we are with you in these videos. You speak to us, not as someone who is wanting to have fame and fortune, but rather, someone who is a down to earth, decent human being who just enjoys knowing that we are with you during your adventures. @@TheHoboShoestring You're doing great, man, one thing though just so you know - you can't control this, it's not really in your hands, youtube is not fair and they don't care about creators. I'm not a youtuber, I'm not mad, that's just what I've heard and seen. Here's the biggest thing to why you have up's and lulls: visibility. KZbin has to open that door. That's how I found you earlier today, I wasnt even logged, and I'm pretty much always logged in, but there you were on my homepage along with a grabbag of other videos that werent connected to each other. It apparently was random.I've now watched a few videos and subscribed. There's no way I ever find you otherwise, I didn't know anything about this and I never would have searched for it. It had to be put in my lap. Now I'm gonna tell you, don't let that drive you crazy because about the only way you can control that is if you're being promoted and they only do that for a couple reasons, one is if you're a big paying corporation that people wont watch otherwise, lets say the legacy media and news for example. The other way is if you know them or they like you for political reasons. This also explains why creators that gender-bend, men wearing makeup and dresses, or support leftwing/communist propaganda - do so well and why you'll see them on the homepage. Actually, one other way: if you're in government. They literally work hand in hand with the fed's, everyone knew that already but it's being proven to the few who didn't, because one of the few people who's rich and powerful that isn't apart of all that, bought one of these big tech social media platforms and has been exposing that - among other things. I don't think you can get on the gravy train with youtube unless you're in government or already have some big following of political minded people. I don't think you can become friends with them either, because they wont even talk with their creators. They don't answer questions, even in cases where they just ban you and remove your channel, even if you're a popular long time creator - you're just gone, and they tell you to not come back and they won't tell you why. I'll tell you why though, the best way to avoid that happening is to not cross that leftwing/communist narrative, just stay away from it man, honestly those American flags you have on your pack? Those can be a problem. I'm not gonna tell you to ever put old glory away, but I can tell you the truth about the nature of these silicon valley elites and their disdain for all things American, our history, culture, customs and traditions. If you turn those into rainbow flags or flags with fists in the air, you're fine, and maybe even promoted. It's hard to find yourself astray from all of this because it's not just political - if you have any "Americana" to you that could be a problem. Again, simplest way is to not go afoul of the narrative. Stick only to trains and your life and keep that as simple as possible, for example you can talk about other hobo's or homeless, just don't say why they are homeless unless it's alcohol and drug related, or a mental condition. Don't talk about them running afoul of living expenses, inflation, etc. I hope this helps. It's 100% real and I'm just a regular guy with no axe to pick, I've just seen it over and over and don't want that to happen to you. So I kind of focused on that, but again the original point was about the algorithmic help or personal intervening that can make a massive difference whether your videos are seen or not. There's only a few ways to get that, and no way to control, EXCEPT you can control yourself from being censored or banned. Even if they don't ban you they do what's called shadow-banning, meaning they wont ever promote your videos and they'll make them very hard for people to find, in some cases you can search the exact title or channel name and it won't return a correct result. Since you're not in the club, they're never going to do anything for you but that said, if you stay out of their way, you can also go unnoticed by them. Say one so-called controversial thing and it could put you smack on their radar. Usually it's by leftist's mass reporting your video. Don't say the slightest thing against about genders, politics, race (excluding white), the current administration/white house etc. Trains, buddy! I hope you understand what I'm trying to say, because you mentioned how your mind works, I know you're gonna be focused on how you get promoted or get in youtube's good graces, and you can ask any honest person you want, the answer is you cant. For an entirely random reason, you were put on the front page of someone who didn't have a youtube account - or wasnt logged in, and spoon fed to them. That's extremely rare, entirely random (unless you're a big advertiser), and it just is what it is. Don't try to chase that dragon. Keep on keeping on. Good luck!

Hopefully others will learn from that event. Security and rules started getting stricter in the mid 80's. I used to ride with the local crew on saturdays, learned lots about railroading then. Used to be able to go up into the interlocking towers back then too. Tower 55 in Ft Worth was one... Railroad employees were proud of their jobs, didn't mind showing outsiders their crafts. What's happening is the breakdown of society. I don't trust dirty kids and glad I was brought up by old school riders and they told me to go on my way with respect. These dirty kids don't have any respect for anybody nor their self. I struggled with a methamphetamine addiction the majority of my time riding the rails. When I got sober I went back to riding and dirty kids assaulted me and stole my pack. (They got dealt with.) Now I stay away from other riders and make my own hop out spots. My dad is retired now, but one of my favorite stories of his is catching a bo two days after Christmas in 93 or 94(guy was trying to get home for Christmas, but got stuck in Texas) on the Chattanooga sub in TN. Dad showed him how to work the heater and told him the closest place they’d be stopping for him to get off.

The sort of love and compassion for fellow man your father showed was a blessing. I prayed for the same on a nightly basis the year of 2012 riding out of need

Love your stories shoestring. Half the time I don’t even watch the videos. I just find a good long one and turn the lights off and listen to your videos as I fall asleep. Made for some good dreams over the last year. Thanks man.

I got into your channel after listening Danelle Morton's podcast, City of the Rails. What you say about the trains being your "frequency" resonates with me. As a kid I used to love sitting beside the tracks and watching but it was all passenger units so no chance of hopping on Stobe, like yourself, was a gentleman and its a real shame he's gone You stay say, Mr Shoestring Love and respect from Ireland

I regret that I never got to meet this man in person, only thru his videos did I know him. Giving people a chance to see a life so full of places and people and one adventure after another was to say the least amazing. The knowledge he shared along with the laughs and the sometime struggles seemed to just draw people to his vids. He was a legend to the hobo community, and a inspiration to everyone who watched or personally knew him. May you Rest In Peace Shoestring and enjoy the ride on The West Bounder.

I stumbled upon your channel by chance. I used to watch Stobe until his passing. I'm never train hopped and I'm not even American, I just love the freedom involved. I subbed after watching just one of your vids. Your honesty is a wonderful thing to see.

Everything you say makes sense to me. I think a large part of your popularity is because of your candor and good heartedness and openess and intelligence and a pure Appalachian accent. And you are doing what some people might only fantasize about same as watching videos of people climbing Mount Everest. Plus, there is something appealing about being physically close to the mainstream but yet physically apart from it. The weeds and trees and sounds of traffic but you are in a safe spot back in the woods but NOT in the wilderness. I've known that feeling from kayaking up a suburban lake bordered by trees but on the other side of the trees, homes or offices or a shopping center. At one spot, the narrowed, upstream part where the feeder creek enters the dam created lake, you can paddle under a busy, 4-lane road and hear that underpass sound and yet 99% of the people only 50 feet away have no idea you are there. I've had the same feeling at times whern I was little, wandering by myself through a small town junkyard or making a sapling shelter in a patch of woods in the backyard. Hope your health problems subside and all the best.

With me I live in a gilded cage. I do have good things, my daughters and gks my old truck and a decent job but the one thing I lack is wide open space. Escape from the treadmill. Every once in awhile I need to get out of the cage.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, this video has brought me a lot of peace and introspection today. I'm glad you found your frequency. I was lucky to have found mine when I was 27, been working in a cat hospital for five years now and it's what gets me up in the morning. Love from Nebraska. RIP Jim Stobie. His spirit lives on through all the lives he touched.
