You should! Only game I play. I try other PvP games, but they pale in comparsing. 2500-3000h played. Its hard and unforgiving, also the learning curve is steep. But thats what makes it durable and rewarding. It got incredible depth when it comes to playstyle and the amount of creativity you can utilize in your games.

600h player here, With a tac shooter background To me hunt is like Cs/ valorant in a few ways, you have wait time, setup and bullshit kills (both good and bad) but the biggest difference is that there is always tension. Until you see 9-11 dead hunters you always feel like there may be someone hiding. Unlike in tarkov, any weapon can 1 shot you and since the rate of fire is slower each shot matters. Have fun on the bayou

Im in the same position as you are, picked up Hunt and put in the work. Trying to become better each day, trying to be the best i can be. And i love that gameplay loop, from triggering every soundtrap to become more silent on the map. From being too slow to every fight, to be there and try to 3rd party them without being notice because no sound traps were triggered. Do i know the maps in and out? Hell no, there are still componts i have no clue how people get inside and kill me. and now after 400+ hours and peaking at 5 stars im still learning and trying out new weapons and loadouts. and this is awesome and i really hope, the focus on bugfixing more then pushing collabs like with post melone (even thats really important to show people how great that game is)

Players got angry with this dlc not because the skin is trash, but because crytek was making skins instead of addressing elephants in the room for a very long time; moreover, making this skin costs hell of a money because of a trademark license. I would personally prefer if they spend the money for more stable servers, for example, because they are still a big problem for the game.

@patryk_4274Ай бұрын
The game is very good; it has its own style and atmosphere. However, it is plagued by numerous bugs that occur during gameplay and, worst of all from the players' perspective, they are not being fixed promptly. For example, a memory leak that happens when opening the map won't be patched for another month. Additionally, the servers have never been the game's strong suit since its launch, and not much has been done to improve them. Similarly, players from Asia on the EU server also detract from the fun, as their 250 ping often makes them difficult to hit. The small player base also means that the game is usually populated by people who are very experienced with it. A new player who somehow stumbles upon the game, without friends already playing who can guide them, will find it very challenging to get started.
@KhaldrostАй бұрын
Totally hear you on the bugs and server issues. I’ve definitely found myself in deep waters with the learning curve and MMR balancing, so I totally get the frustration. I’m hoping Crytek has something in the works soon to make the experience more stable across the board. For me, the highs are still outweighing the lows, but I’m also relatively new to the game with only 200 hours under my belt. That said, I’ve been fortunate enough not to run into too many of the game-breaking issues I’ve seen described. Here’s hoping the devs keep working on these issues so the game can thrive and new hunters can have a smoother experience!

Thanks for featuring Hunt! It's been my main game since 2020 and I have 1,6k hours in it now. The game has evolved a bit over the years, having for faster ROF spammy guns being added, but I don't mind it. It's also good that it's less punishing regarding health and healing now, so teams can stay longer in the game and have more and bigger fights. This is good since sometimes maps used to feel empty since many teams extracted after barely surviving their first fight. Game is indeed quite buggy, but they have been knocking off many bugs and improved the kill trade window significantly (800ms -> 75ms) with the latest update. Community for the game is great, but Hunt subreddit has it's fair share of crybabies. Crytek has shown to listen to the community suggestions (on official Discord and Reddit) with their newest weapons and traits being introduced.
@WalkerSunriseChannelАй бұрын
As someone with 1700 hours in the game, it's nice to know that new people are still finding an enjoying it! For me, it was definitely the grimy Southern atmosphere and theming that drew me in (I mean look at my avatar I stream with lol), but what's kept me coming back is that, despite everything, (and I hope the oncoming competition from Hunger spurs Crytek to work harder) I still find that I can have a good match and it's possible to win with literally any loadout I care to run with. I have my go-tos, of course, but I need to mix it up in a game like this and Hunt allows me to because my general game sense matters way more. And one more thing, the most important to me: the gunplay. It's so different due to the game being set in 1896 and having period-accurate weaponry (aside from the Bomb Lance, but you gotta be a little silly in a video game). There's no SMGs with 50 rounds and infinite mags to slam into them, which only takes 0.2 seconds to do. It's way slower and every bullet means way more, not only because it's a limited resource but because every hit matters. Two or three hits from most guns will put someone down unless they heal in between, which takes time. And reloading is SO SLOW which is not only accurate to how these guns work, it's a big part of the strategy; can I afford to reload right now? Am I safe here? Should I reposition first? It feels so much more strategic and like there's way more skill involved than any other PvP FPS I've played. It has been rougher recently since the relaunch of the game but like I said, Hunger is gonna give Crytek competition that they're kind of lacking right now so hopefully it pushes them to work harder. Because no other game is gonna do this cowboy aesthetic this well so switching to Hunger or EVO Vanguard would lose something for me.

I'm glad you're enjoying it and making such a nice video about it. It's one of my favorite games of all time. It's an experience that I haven't found anywhere else. It allows for so many different play styles and experiences and you can play to fit your mood or if you're solo or in a group. If you're on a new hunter, a free hunter or if you're trying to get your hunter to level 50 for the trophies or to retire them to get the 10k boost to your bloodline(prestige) progress. Another important note, even though they sell skins for a relatively cheap price you can also get the weapon skins off of hunters you kill as long as you don't burn their bodies. So you can take trophies out of your successful encounters and use them later. :) Also, every other prestige rank gives you the option of receiving a random free hunter or weapon skin. There's 100 prestige levels so that's a lot of free skins. They also do twitch drops several times a year that offer free weapon charms, skins and hunters. The audio is amazing in this game. You can go with silenced weapons and play from bushes or you can rush with heavy hitting weapons, shotguns and melee weapons. Scope from positions and angles that give you tactical advantages or trap the whole area. And no matter what way you plan to play there's traits you can get to support and make that play style more successful. Each match can last up to 45 minutes so there's time to make choices and plan actions. Do you go after the bounty right away or find its location and set up an ambush? Wait for someone else to get it and then try to kill them on the way to extracting and take it? The game offers so many options it has never gotten old or boring. And for anyone who doesn't play you might be wondering why I mentioned burning a downed enemy earlier.. burned enemies can't be revived by their teammates and takes about a minute so it pressures them to make a move to put them out right away. You can also burn a solo to prevent him self reviving. However, there is one catch to this. If a teammate has a bounty he can permanently consume his own health to revive a burned out teammate but there are ways to get that health back. These are just some of the interesting facts about the game. It offers so much more and if anyone's curious it's probably worth your time. It has a learning curb to realize the noise and how bad it can hurt you and the pro's/con's of different weapons and ammo types and how to aim and hit with them at different ranges. But once you get into the game it gets very rewarding and very very deep in tactics, game play and style of play.

I could write my own video on this, but I can sum up... I love Hunt. I got it as a gift from a friend, and I ended up being the primary player between the two of us. There's so much in this game that people don't see when they first give it a go, and the world is so incredible that I find myself wanting to be there even solo. I hate playing these games alone, but I can play Hunt without worrying about it. This game is an experience. I get frustrated with Crytek's choices, the bugs that haven't been fixed, the new bugs they bring in while continuously putting out DLC skins, but when I'm in the world, when I'm on the hunt, I feel none of that resentment, unlike with Destiny 2, or Diablo 4, or Elite Dangerous, or anything.

First off before I address the game, let's talk about your video quality, great job on the work you put into editing the video from the chapters to the story telling and giving your overview of Hunt Showdown as a game. Your talent is appreciated and it will take you far I hope! Now, onto my personal input with a little over 700 hours and counting, floating around 5-6 star area. My outlook on the game is currently jaded but hopefully optimistic. The game has a very nice gun feel, the sounds of the weapons are nice, you really feel that oomph on a headshot, graphically Mammon's is a pretty map- even though it took a whole new engine update to get it. They focused too heavily on forcing action towards the mines IMO. Game still lacks a vibrancy slider as well(anyone new reading this, change your vibrance setting in your graphics control panel on the desktop). The performance isn't as good as it was despite having DLSS in the game. The current UI is a big mess but if you do the time and make a loadout, you will save yourself a lot of headaches. You just shouldn't need to do that. There most certainly is a meta with weapons in Hunt if you want to maximize things, however the unique style of the gameplay and sometimes just out right changes from the devs shift it. But with how the game is designed, IMO, your own personal loadout is your signature and your play style is ultimately what will bring you the most fun. Map wise, Stillwater used to be the worst map in the game as far as I ever heard. Now its Mammon's Gulch and Stillwater as the worst maps of the game. But you'll see that when the other two return. Lawson in December if we're lucky. The devs are definitely hard of hearing and pivot way too slow, unfortunately as stated, the major complaints or bugs that have plagued the game before 1896 are the things that could ultimately kill it once the die hard fan base is sick of it or when they find a new fix. When 1896 launched the game doubled in population on Steam, something like 60k for a month at its leak. we currently sit like 30k peak but the average amount of players steadily decreases. As fun as hunt can be to play however, the frustration of fighting exploiters, hackers, ping abuser, general server issues and then the crazy things you see from the trade windows combined with all of the previous will get the game turned off quick. Which is a shame because the gun play itself is really fun. the thematic is also pretty neat, even though they keep doing things that move away from the spooky southern vibe the game started with for some reason. The audio prior to 1896 was also 20x's better than what it currently is now, which is a damn shame because it was CRYSTAL clear. Footsteps didn't get lost in the mix like it does now or characters just lose sound completely (even before the stupid stealth perk given to solos). The AI has also gotten absurdly bad as well, between mobs popping into the world practically on top of you to things hearing or seeing you through 20 meters of solid building. its something I hope is on the list of things to address for Crytek. Stuff like the Ghostface skin IMO was only an issue because of all the other issues that exist, that and it felt out of place to the dark western theme. With aside of the bitterness of constant DLC being released by the game suffers bugs or exploits that last as long as events. Example being Surefoot perk in the current event, simply crouching with this perk will enable a speed boost until you crouch again. Its incredibly powerful vs anyone not using it, onto of being able to use your consumables while moving at Mach Jesus you will out run anyone chasing you that doesn't have it like the Flash. As someone gifted this game two years ago, with my time spent and lack of faith in the devs at this moment, i wouldn't personally recommend this to someone who wasn't running with a group of veterans. However this game, it is the equivalent of being given the VHS tape from The Ring when a friend gives it to you. You know the outcome is going to be bad but you play it anyway.
@SSS_piderАй бұрын
The audio is a huge thing that I see few people mentioning, gulch and the new Stillwater have so much damn audio clutter, it feels like they wanna remove the focus on audio queues, even though that is such a core part of hunt, it‘s ridiculous.

Your words of encouragement mean a lot, and I really appreciate you! 🙌 I agree with so much of what you said. Regarding the sound, I don't have much to compare my current experience with, but if it was that much better before, damn, they really need to bring it back. Hopefully, the devs can address the lingering issues, because this game has so much potential and I’d hate to see it fade. Thanks again for sharing your perspective, and I’m glad we’ve got more than just seven days with this VHS tape! See you in the bayou Hunter and stay safe! 🤠

I've Been playing this game for years and I love how the new update made it more accesable for new people. I gifted the game to my brother we've been going wild. Many people have been going too hard on crytek but at the end of the day they need money and their micro transactions aren't even that bad. Whenever I buy a skin or battle pass in this game I don't feel like crap like other games I've sunk money into. It feels like I'm investing to a company that's making a compassionate game about cowboys rootin and tootin.

Beautiful video. I have 1300 hrs in this game, more than any other game i have played. One little correction is that there's absolutely a meta for two basic gamestyles. Close range: Auto-5 slugs/buckshot and uppercut or dolch. Long range: Mosin Nagant Spitzer (sniper or base) and uppercut or dolch. With quartermaster can be a dolch precision or an uppercut precision for a good medium range with extra bullets for mosin. Personally, i hate those loadouts. Really sweaty and overpowered. My current favorite loadout is a Caldwell Rival Trauma (two barreled shotgun with a melee hammer on it's butt stock) with a Sparks pistol with poison ammo. You have two close range shells and one extremely powerful medium range bullet that poisons for up to 15 seconds. If you get the Poison Sense trait, you can push knowing where they are. A melee in your shotgun if you miss or don't kill with the shells. It fits ky playstyle so well
@KhaldrostАй бұрын
I really appreciate the love and time you put into your feedback, thank you! Here’s how I look at it: If we define ‘meta’ as the best agreed-upon strategy, I see it differently. If you give a Mosin Spitzer to someone who lacks game sense, say they’re not focused on sound cues or movement and consistently re-peak. I’d argue they don’t have an inherent advantage over a hunter with a single-shot pistol who’s mastered those fundamentals. So when I say there’s no ‘meta,’ I don’t mean there aren't stronger weapons (because, yeah, there definitely are). I’m talking about how understanding and navigating game mechanics can level the playing field in ways that no other competitive game really offers. Are there advantages to using certain weapons? Absolutely. But do you have a disadvantage if you don’t? I’d say no. And that's why so far I see a lot of variety on the hunters I come across as well. I’m still early in my journey with only 200 hours, so I get that my perspective might shift as I get more experience, especially in 5 or 6-star lobbies, but that’s how I see it right now!
@chasconocaso1496Ай бұрын
@@Khaldrost Oh, absolutely! 3-4 stars anything goes, because skill varies a lot, specially when we talk about gamesense. When you go to 5-6 territory meta slaves are a plenty, because most players know the game mechanics pretty well (and some of them exploit them frequently). I'm a 5-6 with a pretty low kda (kinda reckless and love single and double shot guns), and playing my preferred loadouts against a mosin sniper with spitzer 6 star duo perched on the mountains 150-200 mts away can be pretty impossible lol

I dont get the hate for the addition of ghost face, the original painting of "The Scream" by Edvard Munch is from 1893, so its not far fetched to think someone could have been inspired to use it as a mask. So imo its a win win: the players get a cool, lore accurate skin and crytek makes some well deserved extra bit of money. People forget that crytek is a relatively small developer studio and the hunt team is just a portion of it, those people made one of greatest yet most underrated games ever and in my book they deserve to get a bit extra money from somewhat lore accurate franchises.

I've been playing 2500 hours since early access and still going. There's just no other game like 'Hunt: Showdown' I love playing solo. It helps me die enough to stay away from sweaty, cheater-infested 6 star. But if you haven't played it don't worry about the cheaters. You can play for hundreds of hours and not get to 6 star where most of the cheaters are. That's a very good value for the money because it's an incredible game.

Love the game but it does feel like trash when you freshly prestige and you end up immediately spending 4k hunt dollars on nitro express's because typing "OFF" in the search bar purchases 2 of the item selected. The UI has still been holding the game back so much and can really turn new players away. But I guess if that's my biggest complaint the game's doing pretty good.

The monitization changes they consistently add are concerning and just straight up greedy. Aaaand there's a good chance they're about to add Post Malone as a Hunter in game.... Nicki Minaj and Twerking become less and less unlikely... by the minute. Post Malone as a hunter might fit well aesthetically. But adding real life people isn't only immersion breaking for a good deal of people, it's also a huge risk because what if in a few months down the line the new freshly character turns out to be a terrible person with a massive public outcry? Remember McCree from Overwatch...? How did that go? :) Don't get me wrong: i love the game. I've been playing since 2019 and it's been my and my friend's "main game" - contiuously throughout those 5 years. But let me tell you: Crytek is taking the game in a worrying, greedy direction - constantly over the last ~ 3 years we actively noticed Crytek pushing for more and more and more monitization. The game needs to earn money - that's fine, no one complains about that. But it's becomeing more and more - with NONE of the benefits you can righfully expect from a game earning money. First they introduced Battle Passes - which is fine. BPs are one of the most fair monitization models imo.... But the Hunt BPs have been terribly grindy. WAAAAY more than other games. Fortnite (last time i played like 2 years ago or so) and Diablo 4 do BPs very well. You complete them "just like that" - usually without even paying attention to it. Well... In Hunt, my group and me over the first few events we played basically every day for 2-3 hours (at least) and only got to about 50% of the BP. We didn't specifically focus on farming points, sure, but getting only HALF through by playing regularily, and certainly more than your "average player" ist just... fucking stupid, sorry to say. If you look through reddit you'll find posts and comments from 2 years ago, saying completing the event takes aroudn 200 to 250 hours. That's just dumb - that's waaaaaaay too long. Obviously. Good thing you could finish the BPs by spnding real money, huh? :) That's not all though. They decided to lock new weapons (some of which were and are clearly very strong and not just some meme nieche weapons) behind the BPs. Custom Ammo as well. If it were just cosmetics, i wouldn't care. But locking gameplay behind a BP that's extremely grindy? No, lol. But wait... there's EVEN MORE to just the BPs: Of course they just HAD to add what's effectively "pay 2 win" - If you buy the Premium BP, you get 10% more event points (which is basically BP-Experience). If you have special Hunters, you gain an additional 10% event points... You want to guess where you got those from..? :) Oh and also if you bought the premium BP, you could see Event Points in game for LITERALLY DOUBLE THE RANGE normal players could with a trait (40 instead of 20 meters - which in Hunt is A LOT) - during the Serpent Moon event i think. Also let's not forget the consumable boosters they had at some point. To be fair recent events have gotten a little better. But Crytek still just HAD TO lock one of the most profitable event missions behind purchasing the premium BP. Btw, if you purchase any BP, you should be able to complete it whenever you want - ZERO time limit... just a quick side note. Well.... They also removed and nerfed ways to earn Blood Bonds (the real money currency) in game. How nice of them. :) You could earn a respectable amount, but it still took very long. You'd get 3-8 average per game i'd guess. Slow enough to not cost Crytek a lot of money, but enough to occasionally let players afford a nice cheap skin (or take literal MONTHS of gameplay to afford ONE higher value skin). Oh, they removed the sales where one skin goes on sale for 48 BBs every couple of weeks as well. That all would be fine.... IN A FREE TO PLAY GAME. It's NOT a free to play game though. Most of us payed 40 bucks, now it costs 20. Not to mention the countless DLCs they release. They literally SPAM them. And they're not exatly cheap, at ~ 10 Bucks per DLC. And even all of that could be okay, while still not great.... IF IT WASN'T THE CONSTANT BUGS AND PERCORMANCE ISSUES. There's bugs STILL in the game that have been there before i started playing. They REFUSE to region lock the game. There are a lot of Cheaters - not a Tarkov level, but you still often meet them. And you'll notice only the very most obvious and most blatant cheaters. They removed content - not only the maps which will return. But yea - ALL of the maps should have already been out by now. We now effectively only have 50% of the content in game. They also removed written Lore for whatever reason - which is a big part of immersion for many people who love Hunt for it's unique lore and worldbuilding. I'll just not mention the catastrophic UI-"update" in further detail... But you're STILL not able to drag-drop items into different slots (which was one of the main reasons for the engine upgrade???) everything takes more clicks and is a general "worsification" / "consolification" of the game - despite the very vast majority of people playing on PC. Oh and when they previewed the UI rework months before the update, the playerbase LITERALLY TOLD THEM IT'S WORSE and TOLD THEM WHAT THEY SHOULD IMPROVE.. Just for Crytek to completely ignore all of that and releasing without playtesting. I won't touch on balancing, but let's just say that Crytek seemingly avoids doing what the players want like the plague. Ammo-Penetration "fix" being only the most recent example. It's just really sad, because if Crytek didn't do dumb shit like all of the above, Hunt could be one of the greatest games with the greatest athmospheres in existance. But not like this.

Agree, I stopped playing in September 2022 due to uni, back then I was incredibly happy with the game, DeSalle had released not long ago, custom ammo was great, the new traits had been great, the battle passes had become more enjoyable and encouraged better gameplay (remember poisoning crows for the plague doctor?), it felt like a great game and every update just made it better, I was confident it was just gonna get better and better. Well, I came back for 1896, and it just doesn‘t feel like that anymore, it gives me a similar feeling to playing Rainbow 6, devs that just don‘t listen to the community, make unnecessary changed no one asked for, and just generally alienating the playerbase with every update. The UI was shipped in an unacceptable state, it‘s still terrible and buggy, just a huge slap in the face honestly. The new map looks great, and I think a lot of the compounds have great movement, but the map at large just feels generic, theres so much more audio clutter now that prevents using player audio cues to its fullest, it’s incredibly safe, there’s no decisions or risks you have to take to traverse the map, like the lakes or open fields in the original maps, in general it just feels more like COD now. It’s so frustrating, because the whole reason I picked up hunt is that it was unique, that it was difficult and unforgiving, and it seems like they‘ve been constantly going against that. The spear makes AI a joke, you can oneshot everything beside a meathead, take a pennyshot derringer with it and you can kill one in 2 seconds. Dying and burning used to be significant, now with banishing plus the perks (which I think are a good addition) plus the event medkits which allow team to basically have 3 additional banishes basically for free, it just feels super cheap, and you have to burn every player you down just to progress the fight. I‘m still gonna keep playing the game, I still really enjoy it more than any other shooter on the market now, but if they keep going in the direction they‘re going, I will eventually stop playing, if it just becomes another generic AAA game, it will have to compete against newer, trendier games, and without the original fanbase that actually cared about it, it will not last. There is a game called HUNGER upcoming at some point, with a setting similar to hunt, and if hunt just becomes 1890s COD I‘ll just jump ship. So frustrating how dense and uncaring a dev team can become.

It’s not totally true what you’re saying about “there are no meta weapons”. Yes, every gun is viable especially after the big update where every headshot, no matter the distance, is an instant kill. But that does not mean that there are no meta weapons. Some weapons like centennial bleed, officer carbine bleed or long ammo weapons like krag, mosin, lebel. Those are really strong. While guns like ranger 73 are not as strong but still viable. Also in the big update they buffed cut-off shotguns. So running with quartermaster and using krag + cut-off shotguns is meta as well. Krag can be used at any range and the shotgun of your choice can be used from close range. Although i would prefer bringing in slugs with shotguns for more stable damage output.
@KhaldrostАй бұрын
Thanks for sharing your perspective, I really appreciate it! I totally agree that some weapons and setups are undeniably strong, but even a Krag + cut-off shotgun doesn’t guarantee an advantage if the player isn’t focused on movement, sound cues, and positioning. When I say 'there’s no meta,' I don’t mean there aren’t better weapons, I agree there are. But Hunt stands out because good strategy and game sense can level the playing field in a way that’s unique compared to other games. Certain loadouts help, but I’d argue they’re not essential, which I think is your point too. That, in a way, removes what’s traditionally defined as a "meta." That said, I’ve only got 200 hours, so I might feel differently as I move up in MMR, let’s just hope it doesn’t move too much! 😭

I’m high 6* and have done some trolling on an alt account in 3*-4* going in with 2 single conversion pistols (bleed+fmj) and wiped lobbies as a solo vs trios in the past. What I’m trying to say with this is that i can confirm that knowledge and experience can level the playing field and that it doesn’t matter which gun you use in this game as much as most other games. Like i said every gun is viable. Even the derringer pistol. Another example would be that my brother which i often play with and also is high 6* wipes trios using the weirdest loadouts. Been playing since 2020 and I can say with confidence that the devs have killed my love for the game. It's a shame because Hunt used to be the most unique FPS on the PvP market but is now being piloted in a direction of mass-market appeal, crossovers with other IPs and celebrities, casualization of the gameplay, and cheapening of the entire setting. It's all very sad to see such an interesting and vibrant light be snuffed out in favor of a more generic and dimmer one with predatory microtransactions as the main selling point.
@KhaldrostАй бұрын
I hear you, and it’s clear you've been invested in the game for a long time. Hope you don't mind me throwing in my two cents here; Do you think it's really fair to say it used to be the most unique FPS on the PvP market? Was it the lack of microtransactions that made it unique? A game that doesn't have a single microtransaction won't keep you in love with it, as I'm sure you once were with Hunt, based on how you describe it. Your feelings are still incredibly valid, and I appreciate you sharing. I guess I’m more in the gray area, as I don’t have 4 years of experience like you to temper my expectations. The way I see it, Crytek is a business, and Hunt: Showdown is also a business decision. While I agree there needs to be a shift in priorities-away from predatory systems and towards quality of life improvements-I think promoting revenue through skins, events, and season passes won’t necessarily ruin the core experience, if done right. I’ve never been one to buy skins, but I bought some for Hunt because, for me, the experience justifies it. If issues like those mentioned here aren't addressed by Crytek, I’d likely stop supporting them because, at that point, I’d feel the priorities are misaligned. But that wouldn’t diminish Hunt's uniqueness as an FPS for me, because the magic, to me, lies in the heart of it. I hope this makes sense and that future changes help you rediscover the love you once had for Hunt. Stay safe out there, and here’s hoping we'll cross paths in the bayou one day! 🫰
