Hunter x Hunter saved my life too. Not from depression (I had already struggled with that), but it is the single piece of media that has inspired me to live life to the fullest. It's so hard to put into words how much this show means to me. I see my younger self in Gon and Killua, and I still can't believe that I am alive at the same time as this masterpiece. If everything had ended back then, I wouldn't have gotten to experience growth and learning through this series. HxH really makes me appreciate my life and all the opportunities I now have :')

I can vouch to this , Hunter X Hunter helped me in a similar way during co vid. I was hopeless with where I wanted my career to go in life and HXH brought life back to me ironically as it sounds people will make fun of it but It taught me to never give up no matter what on your dreams.

I found HxH only two years ago, but during that time i was battling with addiction and multiple mental issues. I’ve never been quite so in love with any piece of media in my life. I’ve rewatched it at least 5 times by now all the way through, and it never loses that spark to me. I would give anything to be able to watch it for the first time again. Every anime I watch now I try to let it take me the way HxH does, but I don’t think it could ever be replaced in my heart. Togashi is a genius, and his characters are so unique and special. Even his villains are lovable, to the point where I actually found myself sympathizing with the phantom troupe and Meruem. It just shows how incredible he is at designing his characters. Happy that after all the years he is continuing it, and I can’t wait to see Kurapika again (he’s my favorite). This was a great video, thank you for sharing. ❤

I think that there are other Shonen that do certain things just as good or sometimes even better, however the entire package and the depth that HxH reached with it's writing has yet to be topped. Togashi is truly a one of a kind mangaka.

honestly, i feel the same about this anime. i started watching it back in 2020 and it's been my favorite ever since. at the time i was going through some horrible depression, had to deal with family issues and neglect from my dad, and i just found it one day and was hooked ever since. idk what it is about this show, maybe because it was there when all i wanted to do was fight and hurt my dad, or maybe cause i fell head over heels in love with the plot and characters, but whew. ive watched it over 20 times, first episode to the last episode, (yea... i got it bad), and somehow im still not sick of it btw, sick video, ive only commented on this site three times (this being my fourth) even tho ive been here for like, seven years so kuddos!

Oh man, Gantz, despite it's kinda rushed ending, is a manga that I genuinely love and doesn't leave my mind. So many images and panels that are just stuck there, rent free. I can see how it can inspire, definitely.

I started this series the night I was planning on ending my life around 3 years ago...I went through a bad break up a month or two before, lost almost all of my friends, and felt extremely lonely and depressed. My already unstable mental health plummeted and just kept getting worse. I wanted the pain to stop so bad and I felt like the only solution was to not exist anymore. My only friend at the time texted me and told me I had to watch Hunter x Hunter and I decided to give it a shot. I instantly fell in love with it and I just kept watching. I stayed up all night watching it, and then I heard people in the house and realized it was morning. I realized for the first time in months I actually enjoyed something. This anime gave me a world to immerse myself in and become obsessed with, something to be passionate about. It's not like my mental health was "solved" by HxH, but it gave me a reason to keep going and gave me a lot to think about--the concepts, the characters, the themes...a distraction from the thoughts I was having before. Not just that, but it gave me a new perspective on life. It spurred a period of personal growth and took me out of a really dark place. I love hearing about how other people had similar experiences. It's truly something special and I'm so grateful I watched it, and for the friend who recommended it at just the right time. This video meant a lot to me. Thank you so much for sharing. My first anime was Hunter x Hunter and I watched it 2 years ago. I then took a break for a year and kind of forgot about this show. Now recently I started watching this anime again, I love it already. I'm even planning to watch it a 3rd time. This anime is one of the only things I look forward to watch every morning. I can relate to that. I mean, not on the specific deep level that you did but still... There's something in there for me. HxH has been my top 1 anime since I bothered ranking it for the first time. And for the same reasons (connections on a spiritual level etc) the rest of my top 5 consists of One Piece, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop and Shaman King, the latter being the one which established the higher amount of connections. What you said is true: they're like friends. If not those who check in every week to see if I'm fine, then those which I can come to whenever I feel some sort of angst, loneliness or emptiness. i got really depressed for personal reasons while i was watching the show, and it was the only thing that could distract me from how bad my life was going at the time. This all happened some weeks ago, and i'm still going through it. Hunter x Hunter marked me a lot, and the fandom became a safe-place for me and kept me from all the negative thoughts and the depression. it's so hard for me to distract from that since i finished the anime and got up to date with the manga, and i'm hoping my life could get better rather soon. HxH has so much emotional meaning to me and i will never forget it, i love this show so much.

This is further prove of the outstanding quality of this anime, seeing and hearing your perspectives and experiences was really heavy and i really feel for you my bro. Personally I could never emotionally connect to Gon to that extent the first time I watched the series, even now while i understand him more i still can't bring myself to love him, because even thou his reaction to Kite's death is expected and understandable from someone with his background and age.... I cannot overlook the hypocrisy that Gon also carries within his character (how he in the Yorknew City Arc judges the Phantom Troupe Members for killing innocent people without remorse but then later in Greed Island he does stuff like forgiving a brutal serial killer just because he helped him and Killua get stronger). In the end when the whole situation with Pitou was unfolding in the Chimera Ant Arc.... I actually ended up empathizing and siding with Neferpitou... Because I noticed how she was also going through a very subtle character development very similar to Meruem's. And of course because of that i really suffered the moment of her death (also made me kinda mad cuz later Togashi decided to basically resurrect Kite therefore taking away all the weight and meaning of Gon's Vendetta). Anyway... Really good video, keep it up bro.

It is a ongoing process, I think you can’t be „cured“ from that state of mind at all.. you have to work everyday with yourself and your emotions. Right? Hunter x Hunter was one of the first anime I ever watched. I watched all episodes 1-148 on Toonami over the course of 3 years, so I went through all of high school going on this journey. Was truly an amazing series and I wish I could experience it for the first time all over again

Hunter x Hunter made me cry a few times....cry unbelievably, confusing tears of both sadness and happiness simultaneously....only greats such as FMA and Berserk have done this to me.... I hate to sound like a snob, but HxH really is the cream of Shonen. There are so many layers to the characters and situations, it feels like real world in a fantastic setting.

this video is one of the best love letters to something important to someone i've ever seen in my life. i've kinda had a similiar exerience (waaay less tragic eheh) let's just say that for 7 full years of my life i've never had someone that could stay by my side as a friend (i wadsvery young at the time so i though it was important) after 5 years of bullying i went to middle school. it was: 2015... i didn't mention the piece of media who helped me during this time. it was a famous video game... you may now know who i am going to mention here eheh. It was Undertale for me. one of the best games ever made in the history of rpg, mechanics and the ways it connects to the viewer/player. Even tho i liked videogames i wasen't so skilled enough with them to play them; so i've watch a gameplay, and damn, the emotins it gave me are still hard to describe, it was way more beautiful when i did a run on my own with the game. i think it changed me and it has given me a sense of hope, it reminded me that my choises mattered and it gave me a hope in the future that might never disappear. I was always and i still am a hopefull person, maybe it's for this game i never gave up hope, gave up on my self and my dreams, it gave me the determination (no pun intended) to keep up with the work and i had the balls to say to myself "even if everyone might go angaist me i want to fight for my passion and live for it!!" (this specific line happend at the end of the school year of 2017 after 2 years that this fandom has been my home when everything went dark). Even tho i've sayd this, I'm still glad that i've never change my view on people, because when the last middle school year started at settember of 2017 i've met my first ever friend and we still are after all this years. I guess this experience taught me to never give up hope and i should never give up on what i belive is right, now i am 18 and i still belive in everything i belived in when i was 12, i got better at a lot of things and life is always different. i am sos thankfull to toby fox who made this game and to the people i've met during my life.

As someone who also read and is caught up to CSM, I'll agree that the series definitely subverts a lot of Shonen tropes, whereas HxH still does by USING a lot of tropes too. Fujimoto writes in a more shocking way than Togashi does, which I feel has a lot more emotion behind the writing, so I guess it depends on what you prefer between the two, but I think they're both masterclasses in writing subversive Shonen.

Great review. I love Hunter x Hunter, it’s one of my favourite anime and mangas ever. Yoshihiro Togashi is a manga genius and he’s made two of my all time favourite anime and mangas ever with this and Yu Yu Hakusho. I love how Hunter x Hunter is one of the most different and unique Shonen Jump stories ever and I love it for that. Personally, Killua’s my favourite character, I think he’s the best written and he’s tied with Hiei as my favourite Togashi character. Almost everything in the series is incredible for me. I also met Christina Vee, the English voice of Killua, at an MCM Con two weeks ago and asked her to sign my copy of 31 of the manga.
