We need more info. One coffee mug speeding around the kitchen, well you could understand. Like, accidents do happen. But come on two crashing the one day. Now that needs explaining. Someone is under a heavy influence of caffeine.

Do you know if American ash trees are any good for making hurlies? We're losing ours too to emerald ash borer and if they can be cut down in a way that makes them suitable for hurlies maybe some can be made from ours before they're all gone.

Hurley is one of the games that help influence Canada's National Game: Hockey

Lacrosse = Hockey on grass. Hurley came along MUCH later; yet likely did contribute to codifying some of the "rules." Displaced Canuck now in the Willamette valley, Oregon.

Ash dieback is a real shame. Back in my days as a reenactor, we'd either make spears from ash or pine. Generally pine was cheap and easy to work with, but broke often and you'd maybe get one year of use from it. Ash was about twice the price but they'd last at least two or three times longer before they became too damaged to use. On the other hand, it took maybe ten times longer to plane it down to the desired thickness (which was a little bit thinner than pine, owing to the greater strength). And I was using a hand plane for that and I even went and bought a brand new one which I still have somewhere. Then someone bought an electric plane and took all the satisfaction out of it as they could do in ten minutes what would take me several hours by hand.
