I remember in January of this year all my levels randomly became popular and like 4 of them got 10k+ plays and a keep run level got 25k+ plays, which caused me to get #1 weekly and to be on the world leaderboard

TL;DW: - His Internet connection dropped out and they couldn't play other people's levels. - He had a (US-only, from what I can tell) sponsor for his live stream, and he had to fall back to mobile data in order to continue streaming and meet the sponsorship requirements. The connection was out for 12 hours. - His mobile plan has mobile hotspot functionality locked out (seems to be a typical thing with USA telcos to charge separately for that). - Because he couldn't connect to Nintendo Switch Online, he had to either play story mode or use Make mode. He did the latter, but as he had an expert with him, he handed the controller to him. - Once he was able to reconnect, he uploaded the level. - He made another level himself and upload, and the game began recommending both levels to other players who were playing online, much like how KZbin somehow decided to recommend this video to me. I wish KZbin would tell me what video I watched that made it recommend it to me. - He got a top medal for the week - He decided to try making levels in 15 minutes each, making 4 levels, and they all got recommended to other online players. - Near the end of the stream, he decided to make one last level for the night, and got a ribbon award. - All of those levels were likely recommended, nabbing him the top spot and unlocking the 'Royal attire' creator outfit option.

Here's a summary of how maker points work Likes from your levels get you maker points. All level likes combined, each maker point requires exponentially more and more likes. Also, on each level you need increasingly more and more likes for maker points. Therefore it's better to get like 10+ levels to get 100 likes than it is to get 2-3 levels with 1000 likes when if it was linear, you'd need 1 1k like level vs 10 100 likes, though it's not too bad to get few really popular levels as total likes of all levels also count. All-time points top leaderboards have like 30k pts at the top with, because it gets exponentially harder to get more points even though they might have 100x more likes than you at 5k maker points. For weekly points, from what I have seen, each gained point counts for that leaderboard for a week. If you were gaining 100 pts a day, you'd have 700 at max. But all points are equal in weekly. Whether you gained 5k more points from 20k or from 0. If you have gained points slowly over time, or have failed to get #1 and instead got top 100 a couple times at max, it is nearly impossible to pull it off again on the same account. Here's a bit of my experience: There was this trend couple years ago of simple platforming levels with just semi-random falling platforms and sawblades. They got super popular with very little effort. I tried it once, and after a couple weeks the level blew up to 3k+ likes overnight. It was the first level that blew up and I was 2nd in weekly maker points, just crazy. Only beaten by someone who then happened to get their level to top 10 ALL-TIME. I tried making a 2nd level similar to my first but it only kept me in top 100 for a week more. I can't really get to top weekly points anymore because it is exponentially harder.
