You've inspired me to create some arbors around my yard for my beans to grow up. I'm also going to use my hyacinth beans to beautify my front porch. I can't wait to get started! Here in Oklahoma, we are still having pm temps below freezing, so I've only been able to plant root crops and leafy greens so far. Everything else keeps getting delayed, delayed, delayed. I feel like nature is just doing this to mess with me, because I *just* built my first raised bed, and it's enormous.

Ok whaaaaat!?!? I need some of those onions! That is super cool!! NO don't pull up your kale! If it doesn't go to seed it may just keep producing!! I have one that is over a year old and not gone to seed (I live in FL) and we are STILL getting GOOD tasting kale off of it! and when you DO pull that kale (I really hope you don't have to) you can dehydrate that kale and use it in soups, smoothies, sprinkle on salads, use in just about any recipe!

Hi Jason....been catching up on some of the videos I missed. Love your ideas in the garden. You mentioned the ants around your walkin onions. I want to share something I've been using very successfully of late. Put a heaping teaspoon of borax (20 Mule Team Laundry Booster), 2 Tablespoons of sugar and 1 Tablespoon of honey in an empty water bottle. Shake well. Then add about 1/4 teaspoon of water. Shake again to make a crystallized paste. Poke a tiny hole in the bottle neck near the cap. Not too big or ladybugs and bees could get in. Lay the bottle on it's side near the ants. Guaranteed....ants carry back to the nests. If a little too much water, still ok, just kills them on contact. I used to spend big bucks on inside/outside ant baits they were so bad. Not any more... Of course, place where pets can't drag them off or chew....under a rock maybe. I'm going to wire tie one to the pole of my hummingbird feeder to keep them off the feeders. I've also placed one outside the door coming into the kitchen from the garage. Keep up the good work! So enjoy you all.........hugs, from Springfield MO

Bees love borage. Use pine mulch and medium cut wood mulch would be good to cover your cardboard with.Go to your local plumbing and heating place ... they always have nice big boxes they get rid of and those boxes are great for paths and the water heater boxes are great for chick brooder boxes.

Jason, I have an ornate antique crib heavy wrought iron white bed frame with four brass knobs on each end. It serves no purpose in the house any longer. I noticed you have bed frames as a decor at the ends of your garden beds and they are beautiful. My question is: 1.how long have you had those bed frames outside and 2.has the weather rusted them? 3. Is there something you sprayed on them to protect them from rusting before you put them outside.
@CogHillFarm
@CogHillFarm 5 жыл бұрын
I have had them out there for years, & I never did anything to them. We found ours on side of the road for trash pickup, & just stuck them out there 😊
@skyz3160
@skyz3160 5 жыл бұрын
@@CogHillFarm Thank you for getting back with an answer, but have they rusted over time, and are they made of wrought iron? If my oranate crib can withstand the outside elements then I will use them outside, if not I will bring them to an antique store. I hope you see my quandary. Do I, or don't I ?

How do I purchase some of those pink-eyed purple-hulled beans that you love so much? Also, now I know that Mary Carl likes a particular type of carrot, and I'd like to know the name of those as well. I’ve tried the New Dawn twice and ... nada. Plenty of other roses but that sweet southern girl just doesn’t like our winters. Bummer! I did plant 50 “wild roses” that were available through our county. They were suppose to get 4’ tall. Nope, those crazy roses get up to 15 feet and have the most wicked thorns. Didn’t really want an impenetrable border planting, but we have one now. I hope yours stay at a more manageable size.

Love your garden and videos. Your wild rose . How did you root it from a clipping?
@CogHillFarm

Generally what I like to do is try to get a piece that has some of the root on it. If not take clipping and stick in a rooting hormone and then place in some sterile soil and keep moist in a shady area. But if you can get a piece of the root, you got it made

Jason, please DO NOT use gravel. You will be making a rod for your own back. Chip walkways will eventually break down and improve the soil and can easily be moved. Gravel does nothing to the soil and has to be sieved out.

Be careful of cardboard with colored ink on it because the ink has heavy metals and can be absorbed by your food plants if you plant on top of the card board.
