If there are just a few issues with the website like the Dentist example in the video, do you offer a to do a complete website redesign with the tools you are comfortable with or do you go into their old code and modify it? I found this so incredibly insightful as a UX Designer who is just venturing into the freelance world. One question I have (for anyone) is: after suggesting these edits to a website, do you personally go in and make the changes, or leave that up to the client and the specific platform the website is hosted on?
@SergeantNeo97

Good question. I've tried the above method before and got a very low open rate to my emails. Also, I got very few people to actually view the video. Hey Charlie, great tips and video overall. However, would it be more efficient to send out messages first to ask if this is something that they'd even be interested in receiving? My reasoning is that a quick intro message would probably take a couple minutes to write and send. Whereas a good loom video critique would take at least 10 minutes or so (including preparation, actual critique, any retakes etc). By sending out messages first we'd be able to reach more people much faster and also filter out the ones who aren't interested in receiving the loom videos. And then we can focus more effort on the ones that are interested by sending them the loom video. Just a thought I had regarding this method. Anyone got feedback or experience on this?
@CharlieOsborne
@CharlieOsborne Жыл бұрын
Hi mate, love this thought. I think it's an approach you could try if you felt this was taking too much time. There are a few reasons you would want to go direct to loom however: 1. Response rate is an issue - Meaning: asking if people want a site critique will only yield a certain number of responses. Whereas sending a Loom criqitue and providing value upfront will make you stand out. 2. The Loom introduces you to them and showcases your unique qualities off the bat, creating a better first impression than a cold email. 3. There is also the speed of simply sending once and moving on to the next. By creating an additional step of asking first you're effectively adding more time to each loom you do. My advice here would be to get stuck in and get really good at sending looms quickly and professionally. The more the better. The skills will transfer to other parts of your offering. Thanks again for the question and good luck!

Great ideas, but... what if the selected potential client responds something like: "Thanks for taking the time to review our site. We agree with most of your remarks and have passed your comments over to our web designer who will update the site accordingly." ? Also, in this presentation although all suggested changes are of course valid, there seem to be quite a few personal statements like - "I would probably do ...", "I like that a lot..." or "My expectation is...", or even "I quite like something more challenging like...". These may sound more like expressing a personal view rather than UX standard requirements. Sorry for being somewhat sceptical about cold emails and please excuse my critique ☺ These were just my thoughts while I was watching the video and of course this is my personal opinion which may or may not be correct. Love the channel. 🧡

This is great, but you're missing something so biz vital. You didn't even mention how you logistically execute this, and if you do it before getting prospect to agree to see it. Anyone watching this w/o experience would not do that and spin wheels until they failed. Major major omission in this otherwise helpful video. Also, how do you do outreach? Also nothing mentioned. Ofc I wouod know how to execute, but for your audience, they wouldnt be clear and ultimately hit walls. Anyone who relies to my comment I can mention answers to what was lacking in video, if I spot it. GL everyone.
