I think the issue with challenges like this is that unlike Hearthstone, Balatro is actually balanced so challenges are inherently easier.

It's also based on chance. At some point, no matter the stake, you will get an insane Joker combo if you just try long enough. In HS you play against actual people who want to sweat their way out of Silver 10 with Resurrect Priest or Handbuff Paladin

Minus one hand might not seam like much but it's actually very significant. -1 hand doesn't just mean you get one less chance to score. It also means you get one less chance each round to scale jokers like pants, green, joker, bus, super nova, square, runner, etc. Dna and sixth sense are also much riskier to play.

You also get one less dollar. Which adds up very quickly in the early game when you’re missing interest thresholds

as someone who did climb to gold recently a few things that i found that help are: pick riff raff if you can. getting free jokers can be good income and help if you get the right ones. it is a bit rng on what jokers you get but getting medicore stuff is still better than trying to hold out for something. dont be afraid to spend down especially on the higher levels. surviving > income. only vouchers i have found (i could be wrong) that are "must grabs" is the ones that let you play more hands and the shop discount. all other vouchers i have found become more situational. but the biggest advice i can say is dont be afraid to reset. knowing when to hop off the struggle bus will help a lot.

As one of the sweats™ it's not that difficult if you know what you're doing, since the challenge also removes all the jokers from the shop pool. So you can get the things you need much easier.

Jokerless is definitely tricky, but I actually don't think it's the hardest challenge deck. It's probably like, the 4th or 5th hardest out of 20, so not all that bad. Golden Needle, Cruelty, and a few others caused me more issues.

Jokerless is straight up easier than like even Blue Stake Black Deck. White stake with no downsides and your shop mostly contains good cards.

Honestly black deck gold stake challenge is pretty overstated. Definitely marginally harder than other decks but by so little its pretty much the same idea. Challenges like jokerless are more interesting.

Love you Rarran but Black Deck ain't hard, it just has a massive hill in the first two or three antes, then it's easy street. It's really hard to put into perspective how much more valuable an extra joker slot over one extra hand is but consider you can buy an extra hand at base, you have to waste 10 bucks to have the chance to buy an extra joker slot.

I think it has to be experienced firsthand. I thought the same thing until I bought it, but it's extremely fun if you like Roguelikes. This is weird to say but the game perfectly captures that "oh hell yeah I'm an absolute weapon" feeling in a god run of Risk of Rain 2 or Hades, except in poker format. My friends also think it looks boring when I stream it to them on Discord, but as more and more of them have bought it they're starting to understand.
