The problem with the ice physics in this game is that the edges of platforms, where there's a pit, does not have ice physics on it. So you touch it and you're pressing the button in the opposite direction and it shoots you the other way because you're at full speed because the edge of the platform has no ice physics. Oh and if you're against a wall you cannot move diagonally on ice to get into a door or staircase, you have to be close enough that the game corrects your position moving head on towards the door or staircase. Once you figure that out you can start to figure out how to deal with it.

Am I wrong for thinking that this is still a baby seed? Granted it wasn't full EZ mode where everything happened perfectly (and I'm not talking smack about Linkus' skills because I'm a filthy casual). But he had access to the vast majority of checks in first hour and you got a lot of the combat upgrades (namely doubling magic, but also mail, sword, etc). And there was never really a point where you had to defeat a hard boss early to progress. Although the Lantern wound up being the last thing to find, it wasn’t a case where not having Lantern meant that the logical way to progress required some crazy multi hour chain where you had to re-dip into dungeons 3-4 times. And for the most part, IIRC you only had to do 1/2 of 1 of the Pendant dungeons (Ice Palace). From a pure speedrunning perspective, it sounded like Boots was meant to logically be one of the last things you found. Not having that early probably cost you an extra hour.

0:41 yup that was hard af. I had to beat this game before internet so there were no hints. This, figuring out how to get into Swamp Palace, Figuring out Ice Palace, and finding silver arrows, where some of the hardest things ever back then.

I haven't played this game in YEARS, but don't you have a lot more control on ice if you just spam swing your sword while moving? Maybe it's a totally different game I'm thinking of lol

I really hate Ice mechanics, too. Except in this games Ice dungeon. I really like it! But Misery Mier and 100 times worth, Ganons tower? Hate those places!
