Just so you know, the jump to get to the main area of cascade isn’t patched out, it’s just a bit different on current patch. However, if you skip the first moon, you can’t trigger the fight against Madame Broodal. You can skip the multi moon, though, if you get the first power moon, the 2d moon behind the waterfall, chomp through the rocks, a pretty easy clip out of bounds to get the treasure chest moon by the Odyssey, and a CRC to the painting island.

You don’t use the most effective lava bouncing technique. After cap diving, you should throw and hold out cappy, lava bounce, bounce off of cappy, and repeat. This will also give you height so you can easily reach the hat door.

This is a great run category! I've always thought Low% runs of games were super interesting, and mimimum capture runs are pretty close, but I like the idea of counting story moons as the criterion to be minimized. Always nice to see a new video of yours in my recommended!

The minimum can be lowered! i reccomend you watch the video from the Channel "lowest percent" about how speedrunners beat mario odyssey with only 3 captures, they use some very very precise and clever tricks to skip all of the bowser kindgom wires as well as madame broodal in cascade kingdom They do fight harriet in sand kingdom so mecha wiggller's moon isnt something you can skip sadly. Other than that good video and good job! If you ever try to lower your count i wish you good luck as crc's are not something i wish upon anyone

This should be a new speedrun category. NoStory%. Basically a low% speedrun but instead of collecting least items it’s least story moons. As you did, multi-moons will count as 1 story moon towards the counter, then typical SMO rules like no mods or anything. Separate categories for 1 and 2 player, and there’s NoStory%!

The arena at luncheon kingdom can actually be jumped around, although it's very tight. There are also CRCs for almost every wire in Vowser kingdom, although I don't know how useful that is. The only wire in Bowser kingdom without a CRC is the last one, which requires nut jumping, not possible on current patch.

Good video! Even though I’m SUPER late at this point, I would like to clarify some things. 1. It is possible to skip the either the first moon or first multi moon and collect enough moons in cascade. The madame broode moon skip is possible to be done on all versions of the game, but the skip of the first moon is only possible in 1.0. The fifth moon for skipping madame broode would be the painting island, which can be reached with a CRC or a very precise jump from the highest point of the kingdom. 2. This actually doesn’t save any moons from your counter, because you forgot to account for the one multimoon you get for beating the mechabroodal in Bowser’s kingdom. 3. Even though you can totally skip the moon cave, you could go through it if you wanted since it doesn’t give you a story moon. In fact, it doesn’t give you any moons.

I've tried this exact run a while ago, wondering the same thing, and also got 7. However 6 is possible, if you've watched a minimum captures run, you'll know people have to skip Madame Broode. But the glitches to do it is far too difficult for someone playing casually. And for Luncheon, someone has already told you this, but here's a tip. Before Mario gets burnt by the lava, throw your cap in the air. Mario will bounce on it, allowing you to travel even further AND be able to throw your cap again to repeat the process. Very conveinent.

After calculations and strategies, I have found something (Counting multi-moons as 3): -Using out-of-bounds clips and a CRC you can beat cascade with only the first moon, skipping madame brood (1 total story moon) -Sand, lake, and wooded are still uneventful with no story -Cloud and lost are also similar -Mecha-wiggler in metro with no other story progression (4 total story moons, since multi-moons count for 3) -Snow and seaside are also uneventful -In luncheon, a precise jump can skip spewart and get to the mainland immediately with still no story -Ruined requires a multi-moon (7 story moons) -Bowser's kingdom is the party pooper again (13 story moons after leaving) -No moons in moon kingdom 13 total story moons, with multi-moons counting for 3.

You can bounce across the lava on luncheon easier if you throw cappy and bounce off him after you take a hit from the lava, allowing you to get even farther even with 3 health Also love these vids, keep up the great work!

I think my favorite Odyssey moment was while I was in seaside kingdom. I went out of my way to avoid using the ship for as long as possible, while also collecting as many moons as possible. Went from 188 to 351. I still have the clip, it takes 15 seconds for all the moons to show up.

I have had the exact same idea for quite some time, and also started speedrunning it. (and got a time of a bit over 1:30:00, which can be optimized quite a lot) You can skip the mme Broodal Bossfight using the 2P-Mode, but a decently precise Glitch (CRC) is required. If you want to look into it, I recommend checking the tutorial by CJYA, he explains it very cleanly. A few additional notes: - Most of the optimal routes actually exactly follow the speedrun, because, who would've thought, Storymoons are slow - In Wooded you can jump up to the are with torkdrift early, making it possible to completely skip the Deep Woods. That also requires a tough jump to get to the spewart-tower early without beating the flower. - In Snow you can go for a very hard Trickjump to skip the Purple-Room, but despite it "only" being a 4 / 10 it took me more than 3h to get for the first time. - You can technically skip some Moons in Bowsers using CRCs, but you need to beat the mecha broodal to progress, and he doesn't spawn unless you have collected the moons. - Nice vid btw. I was planning on making my first ever video on this topic, but now I am gonna probably see how many moons you can get with the minimal story progression.

By integrating some min caps strats, a few tech manipulations, and some helpful glitches, you’re able to skip madame Broode, skip all the power mons in Bowser’s, and go across the lava with 3 hearts (for the first one, I’m not sure about the rest of Luncheon). In cascade, you can crc to get the moon on the floating island, and clip into the walls by using a roll cancel on a specific ledge. Sand, Wooded, Lake, Cloud, Lost, and Metro could all play out the same, but in Luncheon, you could either enter though Lake/Wooded and do a difficult trick jump to get to the mainland, or do a specific set of jumps along the edge of the arena area to progress without needing to lava boost as much. Ruined plays the same, but in Bowser’s, you can cut the number of story moons down to zero with a few CRCs to hit the flags, and a nut jump to get to the Mecha Brood fight without getting another story moon. In total, you’d only need three story moons, one in Cascade, one in Sand or Metro, and one in bowser’s.

You can skip madam broodal if you clip oob to get the chest moon, get the moon behind the rocks on the lower area, clip oob to get the first moon, get the 2d moon, and do a crc to get the island moon. Or you could clip oob or jump between a gap in the invisible wall to get across the river and get the multi moon so you don't have to do the crc. Also in bowser's kingdom you can crc between the islands

Fun fact: Using the CRC method you talked about earlier, I'm fairly certain you can skip each of the story moons and wires in Bowser's. I know Mincaps uses it to skip wires, but I'm not sure if skipping the moons would work. Regardless, if it did work, you would have been able to skip 3 or so story moons thanks to simply warping ahead via CRCs Also: During your lava jumps in Luncheon, you could have done dive > cap-jump > twirl > cap throw > burned by lava > land on Cappy. That would have allowed you to bypass collecting the bonus health and get to the hat door much easier

You can skip the first two story moons because the first story moon you get you have to set your game in an early version because the patched the glitch to skip it and for the second you have do way to many glitches including the moon on the island in the sky by doing a CRC or something way harder that uses two player

The multi moon in cascade can be skipped by going out of bounds and doing a crc to get all 5 moons, I’d recommend watching a minimum captures cascade route to understand more

As far as I know, 1 story moon could be cut in cascade, in 1.0 you could skip the first moon and do the madam broode fight, any later versions can’t do this and you need to do the minimum captures route to cut a story moon

Great video in general but you could’ve greatly simplified some moons you got by simply looking at the any% route especially with how you did luncheon spewartless like you could’ve done a simpler method or at least use lava bounces. I'm pretty sure there's a trick where you can bounce on your hat after being hit with lava that can massively increase your range while crossing lava. It wouldn't have saved you any moons but it would have saved some trouble.
