I cringe so much at architects who use Sketchup. It's like they throw their sense for good design out the window and suddenly decide to use an ugly program with ugly interface and horrible ux design.
@danielavargaslopez35215 ай бұрын
I used to think the same when I was an architect student, but when you go out to the professional field people often prioritize practical tools above the ones that looks “aesthetically pleasing” sketch up is a monster, there is a lot of potential but you have to discover it, it not about the way it looks but the things that let you create
@shynnsup83835 ай бұрын
@@danielavargaslopez3521 Oh I wished that was true... I have used Ketchup before and I sometimes still have to for work, (because some projects are done there) but I try to avoid it as much as possible. The program is extremely behind compared to contemporary 3D software (Rhino, Blender, Cinema 4D, 3ds Max, etc.) I could do an infinite list of basic functionalities that Sketchup is lacking such as: - export selected - export and import cameras - snapping options (disable snapping, enable snapping, mid point, perpendicular, etc) - edit texture mapping (box mappig, planar mapping, spherical mapping, change scale, rotate, etc) - 3D gizmo to manipulate objects easily and fast. - work with multiple viewports instead of only one at a time - import the most commong 3d file types such as .obj. - extrude lines/curves - extrude faces in user defined geometry instead only normal. - node interface? - proper layer support instead of useless tags.(one should be able to assign material to tags and have all objects tagged have that material, lock/freeze tags, etc). - overall optimization to deal with big meshes such as topography. Sketchup is not only ugly and clunky with an outdated interface you can't event set to dark mode in 2024, it is also extremely basic and lacking all kinds of basic functionalities specially the ones needed to collaborate with others in an architectural project.
