Im just now starting my programming journey at 29 and really hoping to make games some day. I have a lot of catching up to do because I'm a high school dropout (medical/mental problems). Been taking the free CS50x course online and really enjoying it so far. Right now they have us working with C, which is cool. Getting to learn a lot of core fundamental things about programming. This video was motivating, thanks for that. Best of luck on your journey!

It's never to late to start doing what you love!, just remember in those arduous times that it's normal with coding and game dev to feel like you arent making progress, you ARE, just keep at it and youll be surprised at how much youve actually learned. One other thing is dont worry about a fancy degree, in my experience its best to get down the basics and jump right into making games, youll learn so much very quickly and youll be able to see how it all connects together. Best of luck 👌🏻

Seeing you coming out like this, I have some curiosities: 1. When you developed your first games, did you follow tutorials or figure it out yourself? 2. You mentioned (extensively through the video) that you are primarily cpp dev, then why you tagged c sharp in description? 3. In RARE, do you need to use their choice of language or you have the liberty to choose yourself? 4. What do you advise (language, approach, maths, skills, goals, books, expectations) newbies who are aspirant to join game development professionally? 5. Supposedly if you must switch your career right now, what would that be? 6. What changes are you looking for in the game industry in the next five years? If you can answer these that would be really helpful.
@ZygerGFX8 ай бұрын
1. I have used tutorials before although personally i learn much better when I just figure stuff out by myself. 2. Must of been a mistake since I copied some description stuff from a previous video. But I do also use C# quite often. 3. You use their choice since the system and game is written in that so you have to use the same language. 4. This could be a whole video of its own but personally just do and make what you like/enjoy. And then present everything you make; document it and show it off. 5. Tbh idk probably just programming for some form or smth. 6. More stability I guess

I think video perfectly describes how and what you actually need to learn and practice to become a game developer. It's as simple as that. Make some games at SDL, if needed make game at Unreal Engine/Unity. More in depth this is really perfect that I didn't find a passion for it. Learning math, graphics and physics programming. And this video perfectly describes what examples of portfolio you need to have WITH THIS KNOWLEDGE you can apply for a job at any company. Because this is what people/companies expecting from you as a game developer Wish you luck for future opportunities and don't overwork. Stay healthy!)

Let me address this since I’ve been getting quite a few comments about it. I am aware I didn’t actually get the job “accidentally”… but it made for a better title and video hook. Is it a bit misleading and clickbaity? Yes. But I think the main topic and purpose of the video still comes through. I don’t care if you point it out and criticise me for it, because that’s fair enough. But some of you have been getting unnecessarily defensive and angry about it. It’s not that deep. Anyways thank you everyone for the support I really appreciate it ❤

"Accidentally" is a weird hook. Brute forcing job submissions is not "accidental", it's an unfortunate reality when acquiring any job unless you know someone who knows someone and etcetera. If you're talking "accidental" like you have imposter syndrome from late application to those internships, it's confusing because it seems that you have high standards for yourself. Don't compromise on that. Also, it's not like you're gonna bail the very minute the job doesn't feel like those "Day in the Life of..." videos where you only see them snacking and not much else. I see your appreciation for the hard work that other engineers before you have made to allow the whole community to thrive. Good luck with your wonderful life and thank you for being one more KZbinr making the community a wonderful source of creativity and love for one another! ❤

Hey thanks. So yes there was a period of time where I had to get used to how things worked there, and I did have a period where I was doing “training”.
