This is great! You're lucky to have had those nice teachers. Noam Chomsky... I have heard such different opinions about him. How do you find his books? I know that I don't see eye to eye with him on the middle east conflict. So I wonder what his geopolitical views are. And same! Covid was such a good time for me. Uni was off/online and I could just read and I did. I was mainly a fiction reader back then and it is only this year that I have started delving into non fiction and it is so much fun! Also, what do you plan to do with your degree? Have you decided on a career path? As someone who is done with uni in the traditional sense, I'd also say socialise more. These connections last forever if they are strong. So try to build bonds. Who knows, you might even find your soulmate at uni!😊

Noam Chomsky hates the American-led world order. As I love the United States I do not like his writing (the fact that he denies the Cambodian genocide also increases my distaste of him). His geopolitics take basically boils down to blame everything on the USA and Israel. Not very nuanced. After I am done with my history bachelor it is likely that I will pursue a master's and even a PhD in something related to international relations (could be history). I hope to eventually be able to work at a North American think tank or government as a foreign policy expert. Socialising in the past couple of months has definitely been fun. I'm also part of the Honours program which gives me additional access to students from different disciplines within the Humanities.

Very interesting journey! For me, I was always a big reader from a child, but sometimes (as with many) needed a specific interest to motivate further reading. This came to me in a big way when I was 21, and, having grown up in a liberal region, accidentally discovered Ayn Rand, which blew my liberal worldview apart and was all-in-all the most momentous intellectual event ever to occur to me. She gave me an introduction to classical liberalism, which, helping me realize that knowledge in the humanities is possible, incentivized me to gain further and further knowledge in a way that no one else had. She also rekindled in me my natural love of Romantic literature and music. In my lifetime I've read thousands of books, mainly philosophy, psychology, economics, history, and fiction, having read the 20 volume Patrick O'Brian series, and just about everything from Winston Graham and Bernard Cornwell (Sharpe and 'Saxon Stories' series). I've also read, unusual for a man, hundreds of female romance novels (given that as mentioned I'm a Romantic at heart, and there isn't much good Romantic literature presently being written).
