Here is tips on english because Im english- 1:We use the "oo" sound for "u" 2:We use ER 3:We say "I was Sitting" British english would say "I was sat" 4:We say "Candy" others may say "Lollys" or "Sweets" 5:We tend to sometimes replace "t" with "d" so "Water" Would sound like "Wader" Hope this helps

If your goal is to become fluent in English and achieve a native speaker accent, you have passed with flying colors (colloquial expression, but you knew that). Very few people actually lose their foreign accent completely, but a small amount of accent doesn't hinder communication. I remember once seeing an author being interviewed on Spanish TV, and I asked the Spanish people in the room if he had a bit of a British accent. They all assured me he sounded perfectly Spanish. Turned out it was Frederic Forsythe, the thriller writer. Anyway, all your suggestions are excellent, and bring back memories. One of your suggestions that nobody else has mentioned is using a monolingual dictionary. I've found those pretty useful for learning what exactly a word means. So, time for my speedy bath.

Thank you. Although I don't need these tips for English, they are helpful, as you said, with gaining fluency in other languages. I had figured out you were of Polish descent, but I never would have guessed you were not from Great Britain originally. Although I am American, I have made several trips to England. Your accent and idiomatic usage are dead-on. Excellent work! I very much appreciate the time and effort you put into your posts. Thank you, again.

I had never heard the word. "collocations" before. So I checked out Amazon for a book on them. Wow! There was only one, and it costs $179.50! I guess I won't be adding that volume to my Spanish-learning language library. By-the-way, perhaps "pen friends" is a collocation in Great Britain, but here in the USA, our collocation would be "pen pals". I say........I've gone from total non-knowledge of the word "collocation" to using it four times in this reply. Thank you for teaching me something new linguistically about my own native language of English. It's getting pretty late here, so I think I'll take a speedy bath before I hit the sack. :-)

great tips. I've been studying Italian for last 3 years . I have tried to incorporate many of your ideas. I watch italian tv here in NYC, watch film, read tons of books , articles, get workbooks from Amazon italia, listen to tons of music, do Duolingo as review, now, everyday. I try to write everyday, too. my cell phone language is italian. not only do I speak to myself in italian but when I read, I read aloud too. what I must do is find a language partner on maybe speaky so I can practice speaking with native more. not many Italians here who speak the language. most are Italian American and for various reasons, did not learn the language. what a shame!! che peccato!! I, also , I'm teaching myself Greek, c 1 year. not quite as crazed yet, haha. grazie molto

Wow--I'm really feeling quite happy right now. I have been learning Spanish for a couple of years now, I'm at an intermediate level, and I'm doing 95% of the things you mentioned. I am really glad to hear I am on the right track. I have friends on iTalki for inter-language conversations, I talk to myself in Spanish a LOT (people probably think I'm crazy), and I'm reading the first Harry Potter book now in Spanish. I only recently heard about echoing, and since you recommended it I will try it. I'd never heard of collocation, so I'm going to learn more about that. I do have one question though. I learn a lot of vocab from reading, and on my Kindle app I highlight words I don't know and put them into notes so I can review them later. But usually have to review them a few times before they're really committed to memory, and I am looking for an efficient way to add as many words as possible to my vobulary. What did you use for word review? Did you use flashcards? I use Anki Deck but I just don't feel I'm using it very efficiently to learn as many words as possible. Thanks for a very helpful video.

Your video is very helpful and motivating. There is something in your points that you didn't mention and i'd like to know about it from your opinion. Do you ever take english course before you came to the UK ? Do you think that english course is important for fluency ?
@english_with_aga7 жыл бұрын
Hi Brayn, thank you for your comment! Yes - I did take classes. It's not something I mention in my video because while I think classes can be useful, it's possible to learn English by yourself at home. So, it depends how you like to learn. Try self-study and if that doesn't work for you, perhaps consider joining a course. I think there are so many resources online right now (including KZbin) that going to a language school is not really necessary.
@javieruriel6 жыл бұрын
how do you reach that level of fluency? i am only can read and listen, i just cant find the right words when i try to speak, and that causes me a lot of stress.

Perhaps you don't have enough practice speaking? You could look for a language partner online to practice with, maybe on italki.com

Hello. my name is Lucas from Brazil, I've been using the Anki program to create my own deck and its has been helping me a lot to improve my vocabulary, however it's a little strange because some times I can remember de word when I'm reading something or even when I listening, but when I have to use that word often I can't remember. I have a question for you. Do you recommend study two languages at the same time? with the caveat, my English in my point of view is between intermedium and advanced level. Thank you and bye.
@english_with_aga7 жыл бұрын
Hi Lucas, thank you for your comment! Anki is great for memorising vocabulary but alongside that I'd recommend that you use the vocabulary in conversations as well. You can practise it with Anki and for every word you learn, say a sentence or two out loud. That will help you solidify it and get your brain used to using it in sentences. When it comes to your question about learning two languages at the same time, I think it's absolutely possible and I don't have anything against it :) In fact, I've made a video on this topic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5nPZq2Of91pj7c Good luck!

Reading the "Time Magazine" gave you an opportunity to learn American english. Your english sounds very British. If you can try to get a Webster's Dictionary. Webster's Dictionary is used in the USA. Webster's is very different from Oxford's Dictionary used in the UK. Since you are fluent in three languages send your resume to the UN. They always need interpreters. Pay is exceptional, and, you could live in Mahatten, New York City.

As an English native speaker, I studied German for many years both in the UK and in both Germany and Austria. To a high level. They tell me it was a difficult language to learn. I also liked the grammer and culture. I am now teaching myself both Spanish and French although perceived much easier there is not the same link between English or German to spa ish and French. However what is impossible really that most if not all language course materials in the UK are mostly written in English, this is not helpful in fact its a hinderance really. And not how I studied German everything was written in German even at beginner level everything was explained in German also. No wonder people can't speak languages much over here. Its so bad I had to get these .materials from Spain and Germany. The worst ones out there are BBC recommended ones.
