Only people in the field can understand what that means. I've always said, since I was 15 and started drawing (now 43) that talent doesn't even exist. You 're curious about something, you pursue it, you learn it, you repeat it, and you become good at it. It's just a matter of interest/curiosity.

when people think someone has "talent" that just means that they started younger and have a head start because they learn faster. you dont even have to have done something similar, just something that lets you apply the knowledge you already have. for example if you have done sports your entire life, learning hand-eye coordination - and then you start to play videogames, people think you have "talent" because you will learn stuff easier. but thats just a misattribution. talent just does not exist

@@Aiviymatoc Congrats, you have just explained the definition of talent. It's nothing more than the RATE at which you can aquire a complex skill. It doesn't matter how many hours I put into playing the piano or composing, I'll never become as good as someone like Mozart. If you put very similar people on a drawing course learning the same stuff for exactly the same amount of hours then not everyone will be as far ahead as others. That's talent, it's a natural aptitude. It's being able to get good faster and with less work than other people.

talent is such a weird thing. i got the feeling I wrote this comment already on your channel - but Talent ist just a word mostly used by people who do not want to give you respect for your hard work. Being a good Artist does not mean having less failures, less pain, less effort, on the journey becoming an Artist - it is just the ability to stand up more often than others who give up on the way. it is not a magical gift that makes us learn faster and in a more easy way than others. it is some sort of ignorance against failure. because we love painting (and in my case the moment of finishing an artwork and enjoying the moment of having painted the best piece ever) and do not value the hard work and failures that much. Talent is a bit like a fish not realising it's swimming in water because it's all around them. That's how natural it is to some people. If you look at the knight he made when he was like 12, I'm sure he hasn't been drawing for that much before he drew that. Beginner drawings do not look like that... at least not for 99% percent of people. Yes of course people need to work hard to develop their skills, talent or no talent. Saying people do not respect the skill and hard work of artists is just plain offensive. Isn't it a bit noteworthy that the ''talent doesn't exist'' is alwasy coming from the really skilled developed established artist? That's because these people have no idea how it's like not to have talent.

​@@SMOENOVA professional level is a vague indicator. There's a lot of difference in skill between a commision freelancer and someone who works at a triple a game studio or disney for example. Even if you keep the rest of the variables roughly the same, there are some that learn faster than others. Some people can get a job at triple a studio after 6 years, some do it in 10, maybe even more. But some don't get there ever... And that's not because they're lazy or haven't put in enough effort. It's because there's more to it than mileage and knocking your head against the wall over and over. Basically anyone can learn how to draw a human face that doesn't look terrible, but few can draw a masterpiece. Few can write a bestselling novel. I'm getting a bit sick of really skilled and established artists stating they aren't talented, they just work harder than everyone else. Like u wot m8? how do you know? Maybe there's plenty but you just don't hear about them because they got nowhere.

I don't believe in talent either, quite the opposite. Talent implies that your achievement wasn't due to your effort, but that you were born and destined to excel at your given craft. It's a bit insulting to the effort one puts to be good at what they do. There are notable exceptions like Kim Jung Gi, but even then he put an unimaginable amount of hours into his art.

I don't believe in talent either but that's my personal opinion, I've always felt like as individuals if we do anything for long enough periods of course we would be good at it. And as kids we are all individually drawn to different things and when those things are nurtured people tend to call it talent but not really. I have a godson who at 3yo could shoot basketball like anyone his height (he was long-limbed even as a child). His hands, though, move like a pro's. He would flick from the wrist and his aim was consistent. As a toddler, he had these techniques. That can only be talent -- natural and "since birth". Talent is real. Still, technique and determination can get us where we want to go too.

Talent, to me, is a combination of being extremely interested and dedicated to something, and having the right wiring in your head. Our brains are wildly different, not everyone will be able to be great artists, or great athletes, etc. We can probably all become decent painters or piano players if we put in the effort. But to become the best you need to have the gray matter in the right place. That doesn't mean being intelligent, just wired in ways most people aren't.

As someone who has painted over 50 acrylic paintings so far in the style of “large areas of the same color”, it definitely is a lot of work to pre mix paints, decide on the number of colors, and not run out of paint in any color too early. But there are techniques in this style as well to make things easier (for example, Golden Paints has a web page to give you exact paint mixtures for different colors). And there are techniques to extend acrylic paints without additives for a few weeks. It’s a lot of work, but a lot of fun as well (as I know that in the end not a lot of people paint this way). Great video!!!

This is awesome! Love your work! But I feel compelled to point out that while traditional animation ran at 24 fps it only used 12 drawings per second with each drawing being used for 2 frames. That is still an insane amount of work though and I wonder how much space all those cells take up in storage.

It's TONS of practice, environmental exposure (both parents were artists), trial and error to the point of hating what you're doing, copying, failing, giving up at the "ugly duckling" stage, only to return to the piece and see it differently, tears, and experimentation. I am an artist and nail tech, and I am astounded by the number of people who say I'm "talented." No, darling. I'm STUBBORN AND ENDLESSLY INFATUATED with the things i do. It took me 5 YEARS to learn acrylic nail application without KZbin, a DVD, classes, or a mentor. Even then, i wasn't a master at it. I've been in the business for 33 years now, and i STILL don't consider myself a master. It's not talent. It's persistence and flexibility.

Gauche is considered a matte paint so that it can be uploaded in a scan bed without a glare like acrylic, they also make a matte oil paint now, I’m not quite certain, but I think the line is 1980 Gumbacher. Gauche is the choice for illustrators and a certain type of digital artists.

From the title, I was hoping to hear that as a kid you couldn't draw a copy of Tippy the Turtle, or your 3rd grade art teacher told you you didn't have what it takes. As you were showing us your early artwork, it's pretty evident that you had quite a lot of natural ability. You might have lacked the skill to execute everything the way you wanted to at the time, but the ability and the interest were definitely there. Fast-forward to now, and no one can question the skill level you've obtained with a lot of time, practice, imagination and commitment. Your current thorough, painstaking process, and the end result of this piece certainly speaks for itself. Nice work, btw, and it looks good on the Mac!

thank you. i know people mean well, but i get a bit annoyed when they say i am talented. that word just washes away years of practice and effort i put into my skills, and chalks it up to 'talent' -- some sort of magic gift i was blessed with or something. i feel the word also gives people an excuse not to try art, or perhaps it has a tendency to scare people away. personally, i think everyone has an artist inside of them; its human nature. it all depends on how you cultivate and express that creativity, and how you dedicate yourself to sharpening your skills.

@kiwiparkmj.k1115 talent is a false narrative. what drives an artist could be motivation for personal growth, a genuine penchant for art, spiritual connection to creation, functional or scientific diagrams to learn from, or perhaps economic gain. but, in general, it takes time and effort to get better and the speed at which you do so will depend on your creativity, ability to learn, and dedication you put into it. no matter your artistic intentions or your background, we all start as that same little seed in the dirt. some of us may be eaten by a bird and carried elsewhere, some may be caught in drought and others flooded, some may become trees or flowers, or even invasive vines that hurt others... im getting lost in the metaphor, my apologies lol.

I think the correct answer is neither Talent nor Hardwork but APTITUDE which in some way is a function of innate intelligence which we all are born with albeit in different aspects. Like Beethoven and Mozart or Picasso. I feel this binary choice often leads to a misunderstanding of reality evoking a wrong gauging of one's standing in any discipline. Truth its somewhere in the middle gray zone and hardwork is critical irrespective of talent or no-talent. But what makes the KEY Difference imo is LOVE ❤️ for that discipline. It is like a magic frequency that allows the universe to open unexpected doors for you when you put your heart into it😊😊😊

Whenever I hear someone say "Oh they're so talented!" or "You are so talented!" I get really frustrated. So you think getting here was all just my innate ability? I didn't put in any work? But saying all this, one can't achieve anything, if they don't have a little bit of a predisposition for what they're interested in to begin with. :P

I feel interest or passion drives ...sincere practice...that leads to results not just talent. You cant practice consistently unless u have that hunger or passion

There is such thing as talent when it comes to drawing and painting. Every single trait a human can possibly possess is largely genetic. That does not mean hard work won't let you improve, of course it will. But arguing that, because that is the case, talent doesn't matter, is just a non sequitor.

Hmmm? Your "no talent" "beginnings" look pretty good actually. While I agree that art is a skill that can be improved and accomplishments are possible, clearly there are those for whom these things come easier... just true.

Talent implies you don’t work hard at all so all the guys who tell me “oh you’re so talented at flute” I’m always like “cheers I work really hard and practice several hours every day” And for those who don’t think that that attitude has any real world impact, I genuinely think it’s the reason (in my case) the tories don’t fund any of the arts because they don’t think they’re important because no work goes into it (we all just pull Mozart out of our arses we’re so talented) so we don’t need to fund education and outreach
