Thanks for sharing how several small errors led to an accident that could of easily led to much more serious injuries. l am new to foiling, their are so many hazards.

Jeap, but if you try to play it safe it's not so bad. I guess football is far more dangerous (-: ! Make sure to get a good helmet and an impact vest. That has saved me SOOOO MANY times !!

I had a poor experience on my first hang-glider flight at age 17. Initially, I climbed high but next the glider was diving toward the slope. I thought I would pull out without hitting the slope. I raised my landing gear (legs) to clear the ground. Shit was happening very fast. Unfortunately, my my butt impacted the frozen slope. I suffered a compression fracture of one of my lumbar vertebrae. You definitely had the right idea of wanting to roll as you impacted the ground! Fortunately, in my incident, there was no severed spinal cord but plenty of pain and suffering and hospital bills. Plus, there was an abundance of people telling me how foolish I was. I am rather proud that I eventually returned to my ambition to fly like a bird, but always with professional instruction when learning. I enjoyed many hours of safe flight. I like that saying "That which doesn't kill us makes us stronger." I wish you a complete recovery with no foot pain given some time.

THANKS! Crazy story! Good to hear that you are back on track and enjoying your sport again. I went through a similar injury like yours hitting ice during a snowboard crash at 80 km/h so I know exactly what you went through !!! VERY painfull! I was 16, still in school and was not able to sit for almost two weeks what made me standing in the back in the classroom (-: Like you said, things go wrong and fast....

holy sh!t dude!! that's crazy. I broke just one of my feet a few years ago, and I know how much that was disruptive to my life and my family, so I can only imagine how much more intense your experience has been. I'm glad you are healing. I'm glad you are getting back out there. sending good vibes and I wish you an awesome day bud. take care!

WOW! Hope your feet is all good again !? Yeap, it's hard but could have been so much worse and from what I saw in hospital, there are so many people with a much harder fate. So....more or less all good 😉

I'm sorry this happened but I also very much appreciate the explanation. As a open water swim coach my training devoted a lot of time to risk assessments and action plans. Checking temp, wind and currents, hazards on entry and exit, etc.. and most important if available, checking with locals to gain their knowledge. Most of the time I'd never think about any of it, but the coaching responsibility changed my perspective. I can see it's equally important for wingfoil and and really all water sports. I hope you make a full recovery though I'm sure it'll take time.

Yeap, will take time for sure. I am usually a very careful person and aware of what's happening around me. But it just takes one small mistake and thing can go wrong. Glad I was wearing an impact vest and a decent helmet!!

Thank you for vid, while aware of the dangers you vid is very helpful in putting all of it in the logical sequence, we often under adrenaline rush for the sess and just want to be out asap without thinking to slow down and assess conditions, esp when homies already out ripping 😊

Wishing you a speedy recovery….I’ve seen much worse kitemares. Relative to kiting, wing foiling is much safer. It’s always the gusty/fluky winds that get you.

Yeap, the gusts .... have to keep an eye on them. I agree with winging being safer and so far my own accident was the hardest I have witnessed.....
