I'm watching so much financial content because I don't want to live the same way as my parents. That sounds bad, but I don't blame my parents for not budgeting and saving because they are not financially literate. As a 17 year old I hope to implement healthy financial habits young so that it gradually becomes natural for me as I become an adult. Thank you for your content. It really helps a lot of us.

@@wewe-fx6un That's good to hear! Is financial literacy taught in schools in India? A problem in Canada and the United States is money doesn't get talked about properly. It almost never gets discussed in school and a lot of parents don't bother teaching their kids. They just assume their children will figure it out I guess. It seems only the very wealthy do this properly.

@@maliamalis6389 I think what surprised me is “we go through years of blowing money and accumulating debt and living paycheck to paycheck” is what surprises me. I was never taught about being financially literate by parents. I naturally save and am learning to spend my money more. It always surprised me people who impulsively buy items without thinking of the consequences. On big purchases I always put in a lot of research and think of the value of the item vs waiting a bit longer for a better opportunity or another option. Anyone who has ever earned and bought anything knows the value of money and it’s not good to put all the blame on “oh no one taught me this so it’s not my fault how my situation is”. Yes financial literacy should be taught, but using basic logic you should always have a plan to pay for an item vs impulse buys that you should be able to control. Because nothing in life if free, you know up front you will need to pay for every item you purchase.

I love doing my budget. My favorite part is putting money into sinking funds so when I want to get art supplies or books or something I don't have to worry about it messing up my budget. Also highly recommend automating your standard base savings amount to get moved on pay day. That way you minimum savings is taken care of and you don't have to worry about forgetting to move it, then if you end up with extra you can add it. Personally at the end of every month I take any "extra" money i didn't spend and toss it in savings, sometimes that is $5 sometimes $100, then I "start fresh" each month. Great video!

And honestly sometimes I haven't even adhered to that (terrible and unsustainable, I know)!! This has made me feel infinite amounts of shame, stress, and confusion since financial situations are so personal and such a "taboo" subject to talk or ask about, even with friends. Any questions or concerns I have I usually try to talk through with myself, leading to being extremely overwhelmed and hopeless. Thank you for making this video, even though watching definitely made my blood pressure rise a little lol. It made me realize just how behind I've been when it comes to financially planning your future and that everyone should start early. We would overdraw and had no idea about our finances overall. Now I know ways to budget (50/20/30, zero-based, etc) but it is the actual expense tracking that I am struggling with (to match up to the budget I choose). With your personal shopping credit card, do you use that everydollar app to track the balance or anything? How do you keep tabs on how much you are spending during the pay period so that you aren't going buck wild lol? We have several accounts like you mentioned, and I struggle with keeping track of all of the purchases/payments and balances. I know you can't show your personal accounts, but any advice would help!!!

Hi Victoria- great question! So every time I make a purchase on my credit card I log it into EveryDollar and see my progress/spending.Then I pay off my credit card every 2 weeks right before payday. If it's something specific (ie. a large purchase like my iPad/iPhone or Christmas presents) I have a short-term savings account so that when I buy a larger purchase I have already planned for it and can pay it off immediately!

I totally agree!

Great advice but one thing I would suggest is don’t connect your bank account to an app if you haven’t taken the time to read the terms of that company like Mint. My current salary monthly after taxes is $13,456 (I avoid doing any overtime) but still have bad habits ( subscriptions, buying collectibles, paying on family bills outside my home, and giving cash to random casinos.

I personally don't connect my bank accounts to any sort of bank platform! I prefer to in put everything manually

I use the Dave Ramsey app, Every Dollar, it’s great. I used to keep a spreadsheet, but no more. I do jot down numbers in my planner.

There are so many good ideas in this video. I like the idea of totaling the bills and having them come from another account!! I couldn't access the link but I will make my own based on how you did yours. Love this :)

Hey! Great video. Can you please try to put in a new link when you can for your excel spread sheet? The link doesn't work anymore. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this video! Part of my goal for this year is to really sit down and create a budget sheet but I always found them so intimidating so I'm really glad I came across your video. Quick question--How many checking and savings accounts do you have and how do you set it up?
@CarterSullivan2 жыл бұрын
The number of accounts is very much a personal decision & also depends on your bank. I have 2 chequings- one personal and one business. Then I also have a TFSA which is not attached to my bank and that gets $50/weekly. I also have 4 savings accounts within my bank- emergency fund, taxes for work, short term savings & vacation fund!
