How about at the end of the series you take the best bits of each setup and make one final budget setup. I think most people if they are on a tight budget won’t stick to one store but will shop around.

Just a heads up, the pegs with the loops on the top are for pegging down the strap that goes across the front of the tent. Holds it in place and you don't catch them getting in and out. You'll see the 2 eyelet holes in the strap.

You shopped at the right place and found decent equipment at a decent low-mid range price. We might need to be 'smart shoppers' as well! The kit needs a tarp and a gas canister to round it out for outside cooking. Most of us will have suitable knives, forks, and spoons in the drawer at home. The same goes for plates and maybe a proper small cook pot and fry pan. We did and took them along as part of our family kit.

I started with a new inexpensive Colman 4-person tent, sleeping pads and bags. I had an older single burner stove from the 90’s and used older kitchen pans and gear for my first few car camping trips. Over time I’ve upgraded my kit a bit at a time when things went on sale during the “off season” so that now I can bike-camp without the extra weight.

They have the Vango stuff here in Decathlon. Going to have a look and get out for some winter camping with my dogs. As the temperature up in the lower mountains near me doesn't really drop below 10-15 degrees on the coldest winter night (unless I go right to the top), that tent should be ok for winter camping.

Quite a fair set up for the price I'd say. However, I always take a ground sheet. It's an added layer of insulation, protects the base & prevents ground moisture seeping through. I'd never consider leaving home without one. But that said, you got a fair amount for 150 quid, so great job👍

Enjoyed this one Dan, some decent stuff there, only bit I’d probably have swapped out is the air mat for a foam one so the budget stretched to get either the Vango Folding gas stove @ £30 or something like a Eurohike Nepal 65 rucksack for £30. Another good budget sleeping bag I actually have is the Eurohike Adventurer 300XL currently at Go Outdoors for £38. Is definitely hard to stick to a budget, I regret not getting a Vango Banshee back when they were around £90, that’s definitely something I’d break the budget for 😂

£120 for the tent + sleeping setup and £80 for a rucksack and cooking equipment seems reasonable for a budget setup. I used a Vango Soul 100 for my hiking tent for a couple of years it's still in the garage and usable and only cost £45. For a cook set, I'd recommend the Trangia 27 cookset with the alcohol burner included is only £42 it is a little slow at cooking but will last decades. You also don't have to buy everything at once, you just need to buy the tent and sleep system, you can get by with a flask of tea/coffee and a packed lunch and some cold snacks and drinks.

Was so weird seeing you look at Eurohike tents as brought back memories of one I picked up from Millets or Blacks back in summer of 1994 for 30 quid which me and my girlfriend at the time took to South of France - slept in that sucker for 5 weeks and then following summer two whole months in Cyprus - Those were the days.... Jump to the present I recently picked up an OEX Kuju Micro Stove Set at G• 0utdoors which includes compact gas stove, a handled cooking pot with heat resistant silicone lid + 2 plastic cups all for only £27 (online price) reduced form a whopping £82!!!

Not a bad setup for £150. I wouldn't have dreamed of such gear in cubs. We had a thin foam matt, and a sleeping bag in an old communal canvas tent, and as a Scout, it was the same setup apart from digging a hip hole for side sleeping. Teenage years eventually upgraded to a cheapo £5 air mattress that meant being freezing cold as I was an idiot and didn't think about ground insulation being essential but I didn't care because of the booze and being young and I could sleep anywhere regardless of comfort, little jet boils were not a thing if you wanted hot water you'd bring a thermos flask. The setup didn't really change till my 30s when I wanted a better mattress for my back and a lighter tent and gear to go on hikes. And eventually, a jet boil as I didn't want to wait for the rest of the group before I had my first cuppa. One of the benefits of starting young is being able to build your kit eventually up, and work out where your money is best invested and chalk up those odd crap buys with experience, I mean did I really need an inflatable early 00s grey alien blow-up chair from the market with matching sofa?

Hopefully here on the 12th I will be doing my first camp at a campground there are a lot of trails out there it's called saguaro monument West. Sunday I bought a gas powered bicycle. The motor is not even broken in his brand new. There's a place called Gates pass and it's about 3,000 ft crime around the mountain to come down to get to the campground so I'm not going to try to put that much stress on the poor little motor.

Great for backpacking it’s light and easy to set up but it’s a pain in the ass getting in and out if you get one without a mesh screen with a zipper on top. I have an easy to get out of mesh on top but if your going out into the cold and you put on the windbreaker you gotta crawl up inside to get in and into your bag it’s a hell of a hassle.
