As a young teenager I built this too, in the 80s. Not quite as fast as yours, and there was no jet engine. RC ducks never get boring throughout the decades. 😊❤

I did too. Mine had a 540 with a brass prop and 4 NiCad's. It was pretty slow. The body was styrofoam and the head/neck was plastic and I connected it with the rudder servo so the head would turn with the rudder. :)

@@RCMowerRev3point0 I used a Mabuchi 540 as well on my duck, also powered by 4 "C" NiCads. I had to shorten the prop shaft to make it fit, but instead of using a brass bearing, I fashioned one from a blind rivet. Big mistake, it wore out in no time.

I built one years ago out of the same decoy you used. Mine uses a prop drive. I originally built it with a brushless system, It was too powerful and would flip when you throttled it. It was also pretty loud and the real ducks would not come near it. Changed it over to a brushed system and made it to where it's about as fast as a real duck can swim, just a tad faster, but it is lots more quiet and smooth. It is hilarious because the real ducks will follow it , but whenever you turn towards them, they will swim away. A couple times, had an aggressive duck attack it. Lots of fun and not hard to make.

Haha, sounds brilliant, if you did ever build another i recommend a jet drive, its quiet but most importantly it doesn't create a torque force like a propeller does because of the thrust angle, so the boat/duck stays level with the water. 😁 Thanks for sharing😊

@@WackyInventions Mine stays level and very quiet, but i'm not trying to make it fast, just enough to keep up with the real ducks. Mine fooled a person one time,..he was feeding ducks and swans,..i was across the pond and he didnt notice, but I slowly drove mine over to him,.,.the other ducks left the area, and when I got close enough to the guy, he was throwing food to it. I let that go on for about a minute or two, then i went to deeper water and started doing circles and figure 8s. I talked to the guy after, he he didnt know wtf was going on with that duck. lol

As a teen in Holland, I made one as well, be it with a normal screw. Mine was a female, so male wild ducks would often make a beeline for it to offer their procreational services. It fooled people as well, who'd ask what I was controlling. I told them it was a radio-controlled submarine. They waited anxiously for it surface.

Haha, the whole thing was meant to be like the duck was getting surgery done, hence the injection at the start. Its not common practice in the real world but some doctors/vets tape the patients or animals eyelids to prevent corneal abrasions but since the duck didn't actually have eyelids, it wouldn't go with the story that it was meant to be sleeping😂

Built a couple years back, went lipo and silly motors on props and rudder, never got them to plane though, even added a vee shaped bottom to to no avail

Maybe the weight distribution could have helped, when i put the battery at the front it kind of wanted to get sucked down into the water, but when i moved it towards the back it seemed to climb out of the water and only the rear portion was in the water.

Nice job. Just so you know, hot glue is not recommended for neodymium magnets. Heat is an issue for them. Also, there is a tool for making pushrod end bends. One squeeze and the double bend is formed. Once you use one you'll never want to be without it. Can you run in reverse if needed?
