How I built this BIG dog house.

As a beginner woodworker this was my first doghouse project! My brother asked me to build him a BIG doghouse and so I did. I used the trial version of Sketch Up to design this before building it and it took almost 30 hours to finish this. Any constructive criticism is welcome as I am always looking to learn something. You did a fantastic job building the dog house and came up with clever solutions such as flattening the roof edge. I recently started a new job as a construction crew lead of new homes. My previous experience has mostly been in building maintenance and renovation. I had to learn new tasks quickly and I turned to KZbin a lot. It has been a life saver. I am always prepared to lead my volunteer groups and even teach the older guys new tricks. Going from a bare lot to a lived in home is an amazing feeling and feat. So kudos man on finishing your first big project and I hope it leads to many more in the future because you have a talent for this work.

I have always made rafters for small building. Cut the 2x4s at whatever angle is going to serve as your roof pitch so they meet flat. Use whatever plywood to match the pitch and make the firsr one a template. Use one on either side of each rafter except the outside two so your siding is flat. I spanned a 10x10 like that 21 years ago with a 45° angle in 1992 and its still perfect today. It gave me over 5ft. of headroom upstairs in that cabin with 7ft. downstairs using 8ft. studs and a double ridge cap.

Absolutely amazing I love building things like this and we bought a really cheap dog house for our dog and I insulated the inside and the deck was real cheap and I got planks and build a bigger deck for him with planks. He hates it and super afraid to go inside.

I built my first dog house a few years ago to sell online. I got many calls and sold it the first day. They had to go and get 5 friends to lift it over my fence because it was too big for the gate. Just small things we overlook. Good job
