A heartfelt thank you to the Mises Institute for sharing this talk and to Thomas J. Di Lorenzo for giving it. To me being a young chemist and following a rather naive approach to economics, this kind of presentation is really insightful. It shows that Mr. Di Lorenzo was searching for truth in economic theories very profoundly during his long career. The way he presents his way to Austrian Economics sounds authentic and credible. To me, the "Austrian Way of Economics" seems to be the most honest one and this talk reinforced my perception. The treatise on Lincoln at the end shows clearly how manipulation and illusion are connected to the state and happen in the state's interest. For way too many people the "energy barrier" to thoughts and realization that the state is a manipulator and a cheat seems to be too high. They were educated in public schools where they hear every day about the heroic achievements of the welfare state. They all should first remember the dictum: *The truth stands on its own, it is the lie which needs to be protected by institutions.*

Viva MISES! This is truly the only sane academic institution on the planet. Thanks to everyone here who has taken time to comment. I truly love all of you. Rand Paul 2016- it's not as silly as the State would lead us to think... :) BTW- on the subject of Joseph Stiglitz... his wife is Anya Schiffrin. I Went to Ethical Culture Fieldston and Reed College with her. She is 17 years his junior... a bit weird, IMHO. I dated her younger sister Natalia, who is married to Philippe Sands, QC- the moron who thought that he could indict George Bush at the World Court for War Crimes. Her father Andre and my Uncle, Morris Philipson, Chair of the U Chicago Press for 32 years, co-founded Pantheon Books. They met at Random House in the late 1950s when Bennett Cerf published Ayn Rand's works...

Economics is a manufactured “science “.Take government intervention and regulation out and the economy and free markets will operate smoothly.When the state interferes ,the complexity and variability in the economy multiply geometrically with each additional interference necessitating this new “study” of the economic affect of manipulating a free market.

Did Murray or any of the later Austrians ever write criticisms of public choice? I remember Murray making a really deep scholarly insight in one of his lectures that seemed to get to the heart. But how much use is there in pct?

atletico ATM Lies. The Austrians have better insights than the current mainstream economics being taught in today’s typical university. But there are many things to be said about the current mathematical and theoretical models that mainstream Keynesians adhere to, all of which failed to predict the 2008 crash when it was staring them in the face.

If you are an academic economist you can validate your interpretations and analysis by running a small business. Start a small business from nothing in any area you choose and see if your philosophy can be supported by what you see in the real world . the problem is we no longer have a real world because of government intervention at the suggestion of so many economists.
