Caladiums are quite interesting... so they are tuberous plants and grow new tubers sideways. One way to propagate it is to unpot them and divide the tubers. Keep in mind they will be dormant a few months per year... most people throw them away thinking they're dead.

Only my Peperomia Rubra, a trailing plant with small round leaves I can't seem to make thrive. Not clear whether it has too much or too little water. onlyplants I water mine from the bottom only and let them get moistened only halfway. I never water fully to the leaves/stem as the leaves are delicate and can rot away if wet. I leave them alone for about 2 weeks. I have 4 of them (2 in 4” plastic nursery pots on my coffee table in my living room and 2 in a 2” ceramic pot and a 2” plastic pot in the window for morning/evening sunlight). The 4” pots seem to be growing a little faster than the window ones. Not sure if it is because of different types of soil as the nursery pots soil seems to stay moister than the soil in the ceramic/plastic pots.

I have a Peperomia Watermelon that I inherited from someone else who really didn’t take good care of it. It was supper droopy and leggy when I got it. Several of the leaves got so beaten up I ended up cutting them off and propagated a few. One of the propagation survived and is now putting out a bunch of new growth. The mother plant is super slow to recover however. I know it’s not dying because the leaves are getting bigger butter of them are curling under 😭 I’ve checked for bugs several times, no bugs, and the plant is sitting on a humidity tray. I fertilize lightly every 2 weeks. I don’t know what else to do beside just waiting for the cutting to grow big. It’s my favorite plant 🌱 so I guess I’m getting impatient

I'm really getting confused with this plant. I followed an advice to water it when it gets a little droopy, so I did that (the soil was completely dry), it got better the next day, but then I was away for another 2 days and came back to it being droopy all over again (the soil now being moist, but not waterlogged). So I've put a grow light over it for some time and then left it be - another 3 days passed and some leaves are still droopy as hell, but some are ok. I've never had a plant act out like that before, anyone has an idea what it wants?
@onlyplants6 ай бұрын
It might be root rot and loss from dryness. You can try to cover the entire thing with an upside down glass jar or clear plastic to tent humidity. This helps them perk up sometimes and put out new roots. Also droopy leaves could be sign of pest, sometimes they can live in the rootball. Hope this helps 👀

@Rhys-Morgan4 жыл бұрын
Ricky Benyamin Tjandra 1) Try propagating the leaves (sliced across in half) in soil in a slightly open zipped plastic bag. 2) Propagate the stem with leaf attached in water....but not too much water. I’m propagating some in a small bottle placed in a cache pot. The leaves get the light but not the roots. The two leaf stems are all from a mother plant that died off this spring. Somehow the silly plant didn’t dry out completely and rotted as I’d watered it from the top. The stems have grown a lot of roots and some baby leaves have grown out and are growing out of the water. I’m not sure whether to leave them as is in the water or plant them. I know some propagations that have grown in water for a certain length of time have a hard time adjusting to soil and can die quickly. So I’m a little conflicted about what to do all my different peperomias propagating in water since Spring.

Hi! I just bought mine a week ago and it was placed in a relatively large pot. Then this week one of its leaf and stem was droopy. I noticed that the soil was super dry. Should I change the soil and transfer it to a smaller pot? This is one of my first plant and I am worried about it. Thank you so much in advance!
@onlyplants4 жыл бұрын
Hello, try to fold one of the old leaves before you water. If its firm its full and do not water, if it folds easily and feels limp its time to saturate the pot slowly with water. You can repot it if you have some experience with it... but repotting will always stress out a plant. See if you can nurse this plant back to health in its current pot, and steal a cutting or two for propagation for plant insurance!
@Rhys-Morgan4 жыл бұрын
Hi When the leaves or a leaf start to droop, or the leaf is soft, that’s a sign that the plant needs water. The soil is super dry so water it and it should perk back up within a few hours. Water from the bottom until it’s moistened only half way. If the plant is watered too heavily or watered up to its stems, it will won’t dry out and will rot away quickly and your plant will die. Remember that its roots are finer than thread so go carefully with the water and let it drain out well with no excess water coming out of the drainage hole. Since your plant may be in a too big of a pot, water so that the entire pot/soil isn’t saturated with water. Make sure it gets some soft morning or late evening sun. Every now and then give it some fish fertilizer. Or a little black coffee or black tea as a treat for growth. Watermelon peperomias like all peperomias can be divas, act high maintenance and sometimes unforgiving if you take a little too long in their watering schedule. I’ve lost a few by watering from the top or letting them be dry for too long over the every 7-8 days stretch. Good luck with yours!

Great care tips! Yes, the roots are very, very shallow. I ended up using cactus potting mix to get the extra drainage. And terra cotta is a great solution.

When i put them in water before they start developing roots they become mushy n rot in water. Any advise?

@@evelynwong5643 I let the stem just barely touch the water. Sphagnum moss may be a better method also.
