I've watched this a few times, as I always do any edit, and I feel I may have got the tone wrong. So, in case you don't get where I'm coming from, this is not a brag video, but rather a, "I'm very lucky and privileged" video. This is me trying to be appreciative for what I have. I, as well as my family struggle with things, just like anyone and any family. However, whenever I'm feeling like we're having a tough time, I try and think about how lucky we are to have what we do have.

Bragging? Who spent 5 years building a business in Canada? Which is how you can work 'normal' hours? Sounds more like you worked hard, and the pieces fell into place for you. Which is awesome. Now to find me a Japanese wifu...
@Brained058 жыл бұрын
Actually I thought your tone indicated you felt a bit guilty, not that you were bragging. While it is true that you have an easy time living in Japan because of your wife, I think you may be under valuing how much of an advantage being married to you is for her. I've heard that 70% of Japanese women quit their jobs when they have kids in part because the demands of many Japanese jobs are very hard to combine with rising children. However she won't have those problems because she has you to look after the kids. So she can have children and a career and come back to a neat and tidy home at the end of the day and on top of that you still bring home a paycheque.

I've worked from home for 17 years and my husband has worked from home for the past 4. As parents, it's hard to beat. I love having the extra family time and flexibility. My dad was around a lot more than most when I was a kid because he was self-employed and could set his own schedule. I think it definitely had a positive impact on me when I was growing up. It's great that you're able to do that with your kids.

Yeah, I do like being self-employed and having no commute. The big downside is that when you do need to work and the kids are home, it can be tough. And, oh yeah, you can be your own worst enemy with distractions at home :-)

I know a bit of how you feel. Right now, my main obstacle is getting to Japan. I don't want to go over there, until I have enough money for everything I know I need to do. So enough for an apartment, enough for all the legal/government stuff, enough to pay rent for a few months, enough for food, enough for all the insurances, enough for all the transportation needs, plus a really good cushion for anything that may come along. But, once I am over there, I have a lot of major advantages, that most people going to Japan, like me, don't have. I already have jobs lined up that are waiting for me when I get there, because I'm a marine biologist and I made sure long ago, that networked and communicated with biologists who work in Japan. I have a lot of friends in Japan, and one of the ones I'm closest to, has a lot of connections within her family, who have basically adopted me, and never refer to me as gaijin. So I'll be beyond well taken care of. Just need to get there!
@Zak.f8 жыл бұрын
Lucky you! I wish i had that sort of luck lol
@sheikahchic8 жыл бұрын
Takadanobaba For me, it's not a luck thing, so much. What I got lucky with, was knowing what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, and where I wanted to do it, at a very young age. I already knew I wanted to be a marine biologist when I was 2, because I was born in Seattle, WA, USA, and thus exposed to the Puget Sound and orcas, when I was still in infancy. And thanks to a Japanese cousin, I was exposed to Japanese culture very young, as well. So by the time I was 6, I knew I wanted to be a marine biologist, and that I wanted to do that in Japan. I'm almost 29 now, and what messed up my plan to already be there by now, is the fact that I developed chronic illnesses and disabilities, that caused me to not be able to finish boot camp, and become a Marine in the United States Marine Corps. That threw a wrench into the entire system and plan I had built for myself, since I was 6 years old. Now that I'm getting my health back on track, I can start getting my plans back on track to get over there. My point to you, Takadanobaba, is that luck doesn't matter. I had good luck, and I had some really bad luck. What matters, is knowing you want to do something, and not letting anything stop you from getting to it. Do whatever you have to, no matter how long it takes, and never give up!
@Grimmm-iv4bi6 жыл бұрын
Seattle Sheikah yep that's definitely awesome. I'm just about to graduate from a chemistry and maths degree, and literally have no idea what I want to do in life or where. Like literally none. I try and searching for things, Google jobs but nothing jumps out. I just keep getting this feeling like, life is short and nothing is guaranteed, so I should spend it doing the things that I love. A bit lame I know, but I have no idea what I want to spend my life doing lol
