This is a video on how I clean my Brother Project Runway Sewing Machine inside. It is always to periodically clean and dust inside the machine to keep it running in tip top condition.
You don't have to have the same machine as mine , but many machines are similar as to how to clean and dust inside.

Thank you for sharing this! I had taken my machine apart to clean and then could not get the bobbin case set back in properly. Your instructions on this point saved me! Thank you.

I saw a Kenmore at a Charity food bank and it was in a inflatable mattress box. The sign on the outside said the machine needed repair. It was free, so I took it. The only problem was that the bobbin assembly wasnt assembled properly. It took me all of 3 minutes to straighten it out and the machine ran like new!

Thank you for this. I opened mine up thinking it would be a mess, but it was pretty clean. Just a few spots that had matted fibers that slid out with my seam ripper. When I put it back together I tightened the screws too much so had to loosen them. Now things are running smoothly. Thanks again!

i was having some issues with my top tension and was watching a video where it showed it needed cleaning so i searched this machine which is what i have. THANKS !!! so much for this video it helped me so much and for someone who is afraid to touch anything like this especially something that isn't even my own it was very easy to follow :)

Slide the plastic base towards you (separately from the metal portion) and it pops out easily. Also check your manual. Brother usually recommends NOT to remove the metal plate. You can easily throw off the leveling. It should be removed only by a professional when you have your machine serviced once a year. Leave the screws in place. You can still clean under the metal plate. Use a pipe cleaner to get in small spaces. If you still want to remove the metal plate be very careful replacing it. There are hooks on both parts that go in first making it easy to install. Finally, turn your hand wheel towards you (never away from you) to reach the other side of the bobbin race. This gives you access to the back of the race. There is a line on the hand wheel that should line up on the top of the machine where the shell comes together. I recommend you change your needle as well. Start clean and sharp once you're done.

Great video. If you want a more indepth clean, look for The Sewing Machine Repair Guy channel, and he has a fantastic video on taking it all apart, cleaning, oiling, and reassembly..I did my brother sewing machine, not this model, but same build, and now feel confident to tackle more minor maintenance issues that would be overwhelming.

Thank you for this wonderful video. I too don't think it's supposed to be oiled because there is no instructions in the manual on how to oil it. That's why I looked for a video online!. You and I have the same machine it appears. I have had mine for over 22 years but have not used it for probably 6 or 7. I'd forgotten how wonderfully it sews. It's a great little machine. Thank you for your clear and concise video. Great pictures and explanations.

Did you oil and clean yours? I have the same machine and it's getting jammed. It makes the craziest sound after like two stitches. Have you had that experience? I don't want to pay $75.00 for someone to look at it.

No ma’am, I did not oil it. And I haven’t experienced that sound. But I’d suggest to change your needles , clean inside the plate to make sure there’s no lint, thread, dust inside. And make sure the bobbin is in correctly.

If you take your plastic grey plate off first before you take out your screws it will come out easily.

Great video, thanks! It's oddly satisfying to clean out the lint, for me anyway! I use a q-tip, and every piece of dirt clings to it nicely:)

I have the same machine. The part that you say you have to wiggle out there is an opening with arrows that releases that part easier. It looks like you have that option. Hopefully that helps you too. Thanks for the video.

The air does work fine for me. It actually blows the lint up and out of the machine.

Yes you do oil the machine, but you must take our the screws and it can be hard to get back together. Must line up both sides of machine to make sure the tension wheel can move freely. I watched a video on it.

You can put a few drops in the bobbin casing once you have the bobbin housing removed. Take the needle out, you’ll want a new one anyway, to start fresh. Turn the wheel to move the center back and forth to take in the oil and then wipe clean before reinserting everything. You can oil the arm that goes up and down on each stitch. You will have to remove the end piece on the left of the machine and oil where it goes through other pieces of metal. You don’t want to oil near computer parts or functions because this is not good and can shorten the life of your machine, which will not be covered if you still have it under warranty. Try to find the oil that has a long tube that slides out of the bottle which helps you to get to the tight places. This will make a big difference that you will see right away. Good luck.

My plate won't go on properly to let the tension wheel move freely, now I'm going to have to take it to a shop!

Thanks for this video! My machine kept catching and nesting the threads. I opened to the cover, and it looks like a dryer has been blowing lintel in there. I was so amazed, and disgusted. Lol

I was also wondering about wether or not we need to oil this machine because for one I don't know what oil the machine uses and where to oil, so I would be quite lost.

Thank you for the video. If you don't clean your machine out ,will that cause the thread to break?
@luisalove30
@luisalove30 5 жыл бұрын
I would re-thread your machine and if it still breaks than replace your thread. Thread can get old over time if left out too long. Hope this helps!

Do Not use canned air on your sewing machine- especially a computerized one. The propellant leaves a residue that gums up your machine and is a death knell to compute components.
