Yes!! We can accomplish so much at meal times! We love reading/audio books and doing our Bible time at meal times. I was wondering about a way to incorporate Ambleside with CC. Thanks for the tips! I love blending CM and Classical styles of learning. They work so well together! On Ambleside, do you use any of their other subject suggestions?

Would you also mind sharing your narration "cheat sheet" questions? I'm always looking for good narration questions and my brain does not always work to think of them. :)

Love it! Yes, we do our Bible time at breakfast and read alouds at dinner. I’m always reading!! Lol and yes, we do all the AO subjects. The literature, poetry and natural history are all a part of our morning basket which I shared about in my AO inspired morning basket video. The daily work subject like math and language arts we follow a curriculum so not purely Charlotte Mason ;)

Yes! My go-to question is usually “tell me what stood out to you in this story.” Occasionally I’ll have my son draw a picture of what we read. Recently he drew the palace Aladdin had built for the princess in our Blue Fairy book story. And once I had him play out the story from our burgess bird book with his toys. Those are a few unique ways to narrate. And then the cheat sheet I have is from the Ambleside Online Facebook group. You can find it in the files section, along with a TON of other great resources for all things AO. I HIGHLY recommend joining, if just for the files alone lol just search AmblesideOnline and request to join. It’s free!

Hi Sharayah! Thank you for sharing this. I love how you combine these styles. I find that I don't fit perfectly into one style or the other but take what works best for us from each one and put them together. I'm so excited to homeschool when my girls are ready!

Hello! We also use CC and I am very much interested in CM and am currently working on incorporating more and more of her philosophy in our homeschool. I wanted to add something that I thought you may find interesting, and I particularly heard this idea from Autumn Kern (The Commonplace) who has a podcast and KZbin Channel as well. She brings this idea in one of her podcast episodes and I honestly agree with her very much, but Charlotte Mason is indeed classical! She did of course deviate from the greater classical education tradition in many ways but in very many ways she is very much classical, so I think that’s why CC and AO are working out so well for you :) I have also been trying to find ways to combine the two, and I tend to over complicate things so your video was very helpful to me. Thank you so much for sharing!!:)

Yes!! I’ve heard that Mason was classical and believe it, I just haven’t done the full research on it so I don’t want to say so, as if I know for sure. Plus, I’m more about taking what works for me, and leaving what doesn’t, so I don’t necessarily follow Mason to a T or classical to a T haha but yes, CC and AO line up nicely. I’m so glad you enjoy my videos! Thanks so much for your support!

I loved watching your video!! I hardly ever comment on videos but I think you would benefit from my recent “AH-ha!” Moment! So Charlotte Mason is indeed Classical- the way she has you reading books and narrating them back is in fact classical without the label lol. The two philosophies actually aren’t that different at all- in fact they mesh beautifully together! CCs Philosophy in a few words is “to know God and make him known” basically finding God in all of our subjects! If we start there we will be falling into CCs core values “Grace, humility, integrity, diligence and excellence” Classical Conversations core values are very similar to Charlotte Masons they are just using different terms! Charlotte Mason isn’t saying “Naming, attending, memorizing, expressing and storytelling” however that is exactly what she is doing and that is what CC is doing! We just get together to recite the memory work since that tends to be the hardest part in learning! Hope this helps!

Great video! Again, thanks for sharing. Do you have a link to the map you have? We have a world map right now but it is very cartoon like. I would like to get a better map. I currently have a blank wall in the Kitchen where we eat and I have been trying to figure out how to decorate the wall with something meaningful for our family.

I use claritas memory work and classical curricula at home that is the meat of our school but just recently found a Fine arts CM co-op that I really want to join. I’m hoping they compliment each other beautifully. It involves nature study, art, Shakespeare, poetry..😍

Classical conversations is a good start. Also memoria press sells classical curriculum.
@intentionallymade
@intentionallymade Жыл бұрын
@@encapsulatio there are companies that focus on more classical approach and I like to piece mine together under that philosophy. For example the well trained mind is what we use for history, grammer and writing in the early years. But we use claritas for memory work which is like classical conversations without the co-op aspect and has a little more biblical history woven throughout. I would read the well trained mind and the core and follow Mystie winkler and humility and doxology on KZbin to learn more. Because Christian classical is the ancient foundation whereas this neo classical approach involves the trivium. I don’t like to get too hung up on that but I just love the memory aspect early on. Pam Barnhill is good to follow too because she leans classical and Charlotte mason mixed.

Will you always use ambleside for your child #1? Or will you schedule the living books for each child and their comprehension level based on AO schedule? Considering CC over but overall love CM education. I have 4 kids and only my oldest gets the most out of living books like the deeper history.

Could you break it down a little regarding which aspects of CC you use, and which CM pisces?
@sharayahmauricehomeschools

CM I follow Ambleside online curriculum. So reading all the books, narration and copywork. CC I follow all the memory work for each cycle at the foundational level. When we get to essentials, things will change a little but only because I’ll be building the logic stage. Each homeschool style is both closely related though so between the two, there’s a lot of overlap. But if you’re looking at what aspects YOU want to follow, I’d base it on your interests and what best suits your family. You may not like to do narration, but enjoy the books. Do that! Or maybe you don’t like CC memory work for history, then make your own based off AO readings… it’s all very flexible.

Classical Conversations & Ambleside Online are both classical education methods! Charlotte Mason was a classical educator. All the differences between CC, CM, Well Trained Mind, etc are more ‘flavors’ of classical, and they may use their own terminology at times (habits vs virtues), but it’s still the same philosophy at the core. 😊

Yes! Still going strong! At this point, we’re reviewing all the memory work from cycle 2 (that’s the cycle we’re on this year) and continuing to read through our Ambleside Online books. It’s been fun to ask the kids to tell me about William the Conqueror and have them recite the memorized information, then read about him in our story from ‘An Island Story.’ Then they narrate the story in their own words 🥳 it’s been wonderful!
