Got this shock on my HD4. One thing to note is that it takes quite a bit more PSI than a 'normal' shock to set sag properly. Normally you'd go geared up rider weight in PSI which would be 180 for me. I had to put in over 200 psi, and yes I cycled the shock every 50 psi per the manual. Once dialed though I'm with Jeff, this shock is pretty awesome, though it should come with the volume spacer kit stock.

Great review and comparison. I tested the DPX2 head2head with a Topaz T3 on my ION - 15. The DPX2 seems more controlled, but also a bit harsher. The air chamber tuning on the topaz, together with the really plush initial stroke made me keep the Topaz for further experimenting. Both shocks have a good medium setting by the lever, which just adds a little more LC relative to the "open" mode. (so the lever on both is actually useful for more than climbing). Would be great to hear your opinions about the Topaz.

The advantage of the x2 on the down hill is that it is much more plush, and really absorbs everything it rolls over. The dpx2 is much more responsive and poppy.

nice job, looks like a great piece. now what's your opinion for the people who do mostly slow speed tech. where i live avg trail speeds are 5 to 10 mph with techy rock gardens that require constant pedaling.. perhaps that falls into the techy climb performance category you covered?
@Mjolnir1256 жыл бұрын
I switched from the DPS evol on a Hightower to the DPX2 and I actually find it works better in technical climbs. I can put it in the middle compression setting and it sits higher in the travel to prevent pedal strikes while still giving me traction. When I had the DPS in the middle mode it usually felt too stiff in the medium setting. It was fine in the open setting with higher pressure, but then it wasn't as good going down as the DPX2. The DPX2 weighs a bit more but I prefer it for climbing.

I had the same question...would the DPX2 be a good upgrade for the Ripley V4?
@thisisdanchoi4 жыл бұрын
@@beesting987 I decided to just keep the factory DPS and instead replace the fox 34 fork with a 140mm rockshox pike ultimate, which is probably better bang for the buck if you had to choose just one. Adding the DPX2 would probably add more support on long and fast chunky descents. If this what you're normally riding tho, it makes you wonder if you might be better off just getting the Ripmo instead.

I think he means 2019 X2 - changes happened from 2018: increased allowable pressure, token volume, bump stop. Versus 2016, the 2018 X2 would have a lower pressure max (250psi) and different token system/volume, plus hex key to keep the air can from rotating off inadvertently.
