When I was 11 I was diagnosed with major anxiety, due to a lot of bullying & my parents getting a divorce but also my mom has it so it could be hereditary. I suffered with a bit of depression about a year ago, and it comes back from time to time but I think similar to your case, it was caused from all the anxiety. I still have anxiety but I’m working with it by finally having some constants in my life, like 2 amazing best friends and my dads girl friend who has been amazing to me, especially since I don’t have a good relationship with my mom. Just felt like I could tell you that haha but I’m sorry you went through it too, and thank you for this video

A Disney Girls Dream You're so fortunate to have special people in your life, to help you through this journey. I too, experience a lot of anxiety, I just wake up with it, which is a tough way to start any day. But if you turn on your favorite music, or share time with your pet, go for a walk, you will find that it helps. Its hard when you can't make the time for those things, cuz of obligations, but I just remind myself that I want to feel great, that I am special, and I inform the people around me that I'm having a bad day, so no one takes things personally. And I'll do any one of the things that Allie mentioned, as soon as I can. My prayers are with you, sending you love, and strength, and a release that allows for more extreme high days! Xoxo

Thank so you much for sharing. My depression came after being diagnosed with thyroid disease at 21. Your whole body gets out of whack. Since then my life has had some major ups and major downs. In 2013 it hit a major low. And being brought up in church I knew God, however I was angry and turned away (because I thought He wasn’t listening when I prayed for my daughter. Turns out it’s ok that she’s in a chair, she’s happy and healthy and it’s OK) so during the low point in 2013 my husband had lost his job, my dad had stage 4 Alzheimer’s. I remember laying in bed thinking I couldn’t go on. And I heard God speak. Literally speak. And that night I surrendered my heart to Jesus. I still have anxiety, but prayer helps me ! I’m no longer on lexapro and learning I can get through those times when I’m too overwhelmed if I just get in a quite room and pray. I walk out feeling like a lion and I’m so thankful for my salvation! Xoxo! Keep being the wonderful you!

Allie I was in the same situation. It got so bad it scared the s*** out of me. One people have to realize it doesn’t get better over night, me it took years. My anxiety got so bad I would have to pull off he highway because my vision would go blurry and I would start to struggle with my speech and my body would go numb. The first thing I did was talk to my fiancé about it. Especially when I started to fear the bad thoughts I was thinking. Step two I begin to self teach myself to clear my mind. It was really hard and took a long time to learn and do but now I will only have an episode once in a blue moon vs every other week. Third I begin to tackle the things that set of my anxiety and face them. Fourth I started doing things that made me feel better or made me accomplished such as returning to get my degree, working out, going for walks etc. Finally I am so happy that I am FINALLY after years at a good place :)

I also appreciate what you said about finding the right therapist. That is SO IMPORTANT. The first person I went to made me feel awful and didn’t know how to question me in a way that worked. Then she basically said to me, “You aren’t doing enough. I can’t help you.” I walked out of that office, and it took me forever to be comfortable looking for someone else. I’ve had two people since then that helped. They both figured out how I needed to be spoken to, and it made all the difference.

Thank you Allison. I am 68 and have struggled with anxiety and depression since I was very young. It's comforting to me to know that there are other people that suffer from this condition. When I had one of my worst moments I was almost hoping I had something that could be treated, removed....something physical that could be explained medically. People who don't suffer from anxiety and depression can not relate to what we're experiencing. They can listen but they can't relate. You have some very good points and I appreciate the information. Thank you.

Thank you so so so so much for making this video. You uploaded It in a perfect time frame. I have had a very very hard many years. No one ever to talk to , to understand. I had cancer as a child and so everytime I went to talk to anyone they make it as I'm just crazy. No one takes me serious. My spouse started to see something was wrong, I own a horse and I have been riding almost daily for 15 years. I quit riding my horse. I didn't want to ride . Was a light for people around me to notice it before I did.

the reason journaling works is that when you are anxious, your mind is racing and you are trying to remember all these things you are worried about. by writing them down, your mind thinks "okay its written down now I cant forget it" and you can relax. for example, i always feel also like i have all these diseases and im thinking about which "symptoms" i have and how its possible for me to have them etc. by writing it down, your mind doesn't have to keep rehearsing all the details over and over because now that it is written down "you wont forget"

Allie! this video arrived in the moment I needed the most, I had a super sad weekend dealing with anxiety and basically making big decisions, like you said anxiety is that one moment where 1000 thoughts comes at once with all possibles and terrible scenarios, leading to uncertainty, sadness and thinking everything will go wrong no matter what; thank you for making this video! so so much, what helps me is painting, i am starting to work out as well and setting small achievable goals, little by little to get to the big one and basically forgiving myself for any mistakes I made and allowing myself to do things wrong from time to time cause it's ok, lots of hugs from Peru!

I wanted to say a HUGE thank you for putting up this video. My daughter has anxiety and I just went on meds for depression. I'm so glad you put his up for everyone to hear, its ok to ask for help. Also, NO ONE should ever go on those dang self diagnose websites, they are truly toxic to anyone. Thank you for telling the world it's ok to go to therapy, it's ok to go on meds, that you need to find what works for you and not think there is a stigma attached to any of it. I applaud you for being so strong to put this out there about yourself, and reaching out to others. We all need a little help from time to time, and with the right combination, we can make it through anything. Especially if you have your mouse ears on! (Sorry, I had to).

My family don't really understand it, and that can sometimes trigger off worse attacks, but listening to everything on here has given me some food for thought. It is amazing to me how many of the KZbinrs I watch have been “coming out” about their struggles with anxiety and depression. Now I understand the group of people I’ve chosen to watch... We have similar interests, but we have also been through very similar mental issues. I appreciate you sharing this. I’m currently decently medicated but occasionally have really rough days or a seemingly random panic attack. Hearing from other people about how they’ve dealt with things really helps me stay healthy.

i have struggles with anxiety & depression almost all of my life, i’m staying vague but i’ve dealt with mental & physical abuse almost all my life, & it’s only made mental health more challenging. thank you for this video. i’ve tried multiple different therapists & had problems with each of them still waiting for that good fit that you’ve found, tried medicine as well but really struggled finding a good fit with that as well i also didn’t have a therapist there to help pick out the medicine for me so maybe that’s why. i tried zoloft & prozac. i’ve been journaling since 2016 & it helps when i’m awake alone at night without anyone to talk to or ask for help from anyone. especially when i’m having a really hard breakdown. it keeps my mind off of it. i find candles to be extremely therapeutic, the smells & the light they bring is extremely calming. this week alone has been extremely difficult for me. i just sort of feel stuck. i appreciate that there are people like you out there making videos like this. thank you.

Allie, I found your channel through the magic at your door box openings. I'm a fellow Disney nerd who has dealt with anxiety & depression his whole life. But I clicked on this video because I just needed to know I wasn't alone. I can honestly vouch for everything you've discussed in this video; especially as someone who was in special education all throughout school. My special education teacher in highschool really got me to see the beauty of journaling and exercise. I still keep in touch with her to this day. She knew I was a brilliant writer and told me to use that as a coping mechanism. She also had our spec ed class do yoga in the dance studio once a week. I was a little skeptical about it at first when an actual instructor was brought in to teach it. But when she took over the sessions herself, I felt a lot more comfortable and saw that it really helped clear my head at the end/middle of the day. When all else fails, I turn to my love of Disney films. Happy endings have yet to fail anyone, am I right?

Hey Allison I’ve been through the same and one thing my therapist did with me is to make me write down 25 things I like about myself and if you can’t do it on your own go talk to your friends and loved ones to get them to help you. It was really hard on my own and I was at university so no family around but I went and spoke to my boyfriend and all our friends and I took my list with me and they helped me to write it and I felt a bit shy but good at the end when you can see written down every positive thing. For me I had everything from kind and loyal to great knitter. Loved listening to you today I’m home alone and crafting which is a thing I love to do and you’ve made me feel like I’ve got a friend here with me :) xxx

I’ve never commented but I just wanted to say thank you for this so much. As someone who struggles with both of these, listening to this was so helpful. I’m so thankful for your transparency and willingness to share! You’re awesome! (It’s so great that you’re a teacher because I’m sure you are making such a different in your students’ lives!)

Megan Sebastian First and foremost, I am so sad to hear that you are dealing with some demons as well. I am sending you positive vibes for a very speedy recovery. Secondly you are absolutely so welcome. This is a topic that people need to stop brushing under the rug. This needs to be talked about a lot more. I really appreciate your super kind words. This whole entire comment thread is the reason why I started KZbin in the first place. I am so blessed by all of you and I’m so blessed to be able to share my experiences and read up about all of yours as well. We are all a lot stronger than we think ♥️

Thanks for such a great video and being so honest! So many people deal with anxiety these days and it's hard to get through it sometimes. Another suggestion is to stay away from the news in any shape and form. The news can really bring the day down! Everyone is awesome and to anyone dealing with anxiety, be patient and just jeep swimming! Life is beautiful and you DO have a purpose! Find what makes you calm and happy and find joy in the little things! :-)

Allie I love u so much! I completely understand where u were those years ago I was diagnosed with PTSD after I married my husband and being with a service member I developed more anxiety than I already had I refused to leave the house and one day I went to a therapist and he helped me leave the house again and enjoy life again then he passed away unexpectedly almost 2 years ago now and now I'm feeling lost again. I literally just cried watching this video knowing how true this video is.

This video gave me a boost motivation to do better and feel better. I've had depression and anxiety for such a long time and found this video quite relatable. I've also had therapists that didn't work out for me at all, one of them tried a tactit that ultimately made me feel worse about myself and resulted in me crying, like???? But I'm glad that at least two of the ones I've had did a pretty good job in helping me. Thank you for sharing your advice and experiences, they were informative and helpful ❤

I think you are a brave woman. People just don’t realise how it is, no rhyme or reason. You are being very logical in your way of speaking. WhT works for you doesn’t work for e.g me. We should never have to apologise as we don’t choose this. As you say, there are any number of ways to cope. My thing is, do what you need to to get through. I still don’t like to admit the depression but I shouldn’t feel bad. So, Disney does help but it’s not the total answer. I tend to internalise & am my own counsellor. I’m a common sense, logical thinker. Anyway, I have my goals & dreams. Life goes on ❤️

That was an awesome video! Thanks for sharing your story & suggestions. I have a chronic illness, & have been sick with other illnesses these past few years.Because of it all, I fight anxiety & depression. I know that deep dark depression that you talk about. I felt like Alice falling down the hole. Besides your suggestions I find prayer which is a form of meditation helps me. I find if I can do something for someone else it makes me feel a bit better, even if it’s a prayer or giving someone a warm fuzzy. I have a gratitude journal. I have gone back to read it or write in it again,it makes me feel a bit better. Humor & laughter helps me to get through the challenges of life. I talk to my close friends & they have been a blessing. My husband has been my rock. I have a wonderful family doctor who helps so much. Since I have been bed & housebound, I have joined support groups online which have been a lifeline. I can also say joining some Disney groups has helped as Disney is my happy place. So talking Disney makes me feel better It’s so important to find those little things that make you happy & smile.Surrounding myself with things I like to look at always give me a lift. I hope these added suggestions can help others.

Thank you so much for saying that you have nothing against people going on meds. Depression usually boils down to a simple chemical imbalance in the brain (when not related to a traumatic event), and there is NO shame in taking something to help balance that out!! I hate people who tell you to just exercise and get over it when a lot of the time you need to take meds in conjunction with all these other things to start the healing process.

Thank you! This video has helped me the most with on what to do to help me with my anxiety. There was one day recently where I literally cried all day long and didn’t eat at all. It was the lowest day I have ever had. My brother even came and dragged me out of the house to go walking at the park.....all I did was cry. It was like everything I built up just came pouring out that day. My grandma, my mom, my aunt all have depression and anxiety. My mom and grandma take the pill. My aunt is a therapist. I’ve just have to find a way that helps me and I haven’t quite found it yet. I believe your video will help me find a way. And yes web md is the devil lol
