Resident straight regular guy here, and yesterday I had a 30 minute break and watched your video out at work, a few guys passed, and came back to laugh at me a bit, and I said that no, it's like history and art, the stuff she shows, and they ended up watching the whole video with me, and I think they forgot to even end up laughing and they asked me to send the channel at the group chat we have, and you got a few new subs haha. Today one asked me if I'd watched "the one where she puts on that poison stuff?! Man that s-- is insane, can you believe they did all that?". I know as a society we have many problems, but if we accept that part of it, if we can take a second, to appreciate some of the better things. When I was a kid I didn't approach anything like this for fear of being ridiculed. And now I watch, and I can't even understand why I enjoy it so much, but I do, and now with two nieces, and a life of moving forward, it's great that I can like something like this, in a power plant, and not even have to be "brave".

That's AWESOME I absolutely LOVE that ❤❤❤ Our world is far too judgment it's so disappointing and sad... I'm a 43 year old woman 20 years ago makeup was seen as feminine so if men liked it or were drawn to it they were viewed/assumed to be gay, bisexual or in the closet if they claimed to be straight 🤦🏽‍♀️🙄 SMH... I have ALWAYS loved seeing and been attracted to a man wearing makeup... Just something about it that does it for me.... Makeup is ART so for me when I'm sitting down doing my makeup or when I'm doing makeup on someone else I'm simply painting a canvas creating my art work for the day or for whatever the occasion 💜💜💜 It's NOT any DIFFERENT for a MAN that's into wearing makeup or likes to just watch other creators create 🙂❤

@@aprilgivens6517 there’s something so beautiful and captivating about a man in makeup. Some of my favorites: Gerard Way during MCRs first album, he wore black eyeliner and red eyeshadow - always did it himself too. Tim Curry is to die for as Dr Frank-n-furter 🥵🥵 David Bowie, no need for an explanation. 🥰

This is probably really strange to share, but my great grandmother gifted me a porcelain clown doll when I was about 5 or 6 years old that was white, sparkly silver and baby pink. She sat on a pink star shaped pillow with black little moons and had a definite 20's inspired makeup that looks a lot like you (especially with the eyebrows and eyeliner). That porcelain doll is lost to time and many moves from house to house, but it's a huge part of my childhood and it feels very symbolic of something. Anyway, I grew up calling her my Moon Clown and I loved her magical and ethereal vibe and that's part of what draws me to your videos 🌙

I love your videos. I used to work the cosmetics counters back in the late 80's and early 90's in Boots and House of Fraser. But my biggest memory was working on the Leichner and Innoxa counter in the day when they had all their black jars of greasy foundation and all the theatrical sticks to name a couple of things. I remember all the colours of the sticks, and the cards (which I still have) which you would use showing you how to change the face for a character, and there would be the stick numbers 5 and 9 being purchased along with white, by theatrical types. I remember Frankenfurter played by Bobby Crush of the Rocky Horror show coming in, and I had put his picture with all his drag make-up on for the character on the counter, and he took a double look, but said nothing, but came to buy more white make up at the time. The thing is I get your passion for historical make-up and wondering how they used to achieve certain looks. I used to open the draws full of the grease paint and you could smell it, and knowing its history and being taught by Richard Blore are happy memories for a young woman. I love your videos Erin, can't wait to see your museum and also the "book" you are going to publish too x

@@erinparsonsmakeup I can share some of the products we sold that I don't even know if they are around anymore, but the gold paint used in Goldfinger (James Bond Movie), we had it in tubes, and I would use it on my eyelids for a true gold eyeshadow. The same was the case for the silver grease paint, used I believe in the Wizard of Oz for the Tin Man, and that too would get used as eyeshadow by me. It was the 80's so of course make-up was very colourful and I remembered we sold these fluorescent lipsticks in bright pink and orange. Leichner had big pots of white grease paint as well as the face powder in red containers, with yellow labels and the stage masks logo. We had the nose putty and spirit gum to help put on moustaches or create a bigger nose - and Richard Blore even worked on creating the look of Fagin in the musical Oliver for example. There is a book of Richard's you may even be able to find, I've seen it on Amazon, but no copies are available. But I remember when we launched the first clear gel mascara - and at the time I couldn't see the point of it so I would suggest to my customers they use it to keep brows in place - and now look what we have. Working in Boots, you would still get the older ladies who did their eye brows like Jean Harlow, and buy Velouty face cream powder, which was never a good colour match, often too peachy or orange for their skin tone, but that would be their foundation, and a plastic hat/scarf type thing, to protect their hair coloured and set, from the rain and buying their toilet water 911. Gosh there are quite a few things I could share about those days, and I was only late teens/early twenties myself, but I so loved my make-up and creating colourful looks, well we were in the era of Boy George and New Romantics. I remember the launch of bronzer (Bronze & Glow) too, and itself seemed like a revolution, especially as the one brand also sold green lipsticks which were in fact colour changing depending on your PH. But the consultant would stand there with a big brush using it to bronze, blush and eye define and even show customers how the product could also be used as a lipstick and nail colour. But things seemed so different then, we tended to have more consultants to sell all the products, before most of them got put onto shelves and self-service. Things seemed to have more fragrance to them then as well, and lipsticks a little more of a waxy texture often, and contouring wasn't a thing, but coloured mascara was, mostly it would be blue, with blue eyeliner - now you see that done more editorially - but back then its what you wore with pale pink lip gloss. Let me know if you want to know anymore, but hope this gives you a feel of the time a little more. Much love to you xxx 🥰😘

Erin's counterpart in the land of hairdressing when it comes to PRECISION WORK is undoubtedly Kriss Poison. The accuracy of all the different type of fringes or 'bangs' that she cuts is clearly the most important thing to her when she cuts hair, it's what she's best known for. It's nowhere near as easy as it looks. Kriss's really old blog posts are all gone for some reason but her outfits from 2015 and before are fantastic. I wish she'd re upload her personal outfit 'look books'. Anyway, it's great to find inspiring professionals who have an entirely idiosyncratic sense of aesthetics.

I still have lots of makeup from my early 90's makeup kit, including a 1990 Lancome brush set, a 1991 Dior eyeshadow compact and a 1993 Chanel lipstick in Lune Russe, the perfect 90's brick red and my signature lip in the 90's with a deep brown lipliner of course (we didn't get MAC in the UK until after the Estee Lauder acquisition). Everything was so matte back then. I remember being taught at media makeup college to put loose powder (usually cornsilk or airspun) over a single ply of tissue to matify the lips. I used that technique for over a decade lol. My inspiration back then was the chameleon like looks of Kylie Minogue, especially in the music video for 'What do I have to do', and of course the supermodels. My personal favourite being Christy. Belinda Carlisle was also one of my beauty icons. Until everyone had MTV in our homes in the early 90's, we, the British, weren't exposed to American culture much at all. Although we did have the Golden Girls in the 80's. I still watch that show. It never fails to make me laugh out loud.

Has anyone ever told you how similar your bone structure is to Christy Turlington? Especially when turn your head to a 3/4 angle, the curve of your cheekbones to your jaw, it's striking every time! I love the way you've combined makeup trends from different eras to create your own cohesive look. I sort of do something similar with keeping the eyeliner open at the bottom, but I also don't use mascara in that area. For some reason it suits me so much better. It took my makeup to a whole new level when I realized that just because something's there, doesn't mean I need to coat it with something. Sometimes less is more and sometimes more is more.

I love your videos. I have one vintage make up piece. It’s a little makeup kit with eyeshadow and blush and lipstick. I think it’s from the 60s or 70s maybe it’s just a little oval and it’s navy blue. My grandma gave it to me and I was so excited when I found out there was a bottom to it and a whole Nother layer of make up
