I might be using the solder wick wrong, at some points I even managed to get it soldered to the circuit board 😅 Maybe I just need go hold it on the joints longer. When your wick gets stuck to a pad add more solder to the wick with your iron, also make sure your iron is hot enough and hold it there until the wick comes off easily, but be careful as you can easily pull off a pad using this method.

great video- 1 question however: how do you address the need to calibrate the new potentiometers that you put in? This is information I received in another video: "We measure the old ones and try to match new one as close as possible, if there is offset, we nullify it with a calculated SMD resistor so the stick in natural position is always in the middle since the calibration is hardcoded in firmware. It's hit and miss really, using knock off bootleg "Alps" will give unpredictable results, while the true originals will have usually closer match with little to no offset correction required. It's sometimes a tedious job" seems like you can't simply just swap in new alps joystick modules and call it a day?
@greatwilliam8231 Жыл бұрын
agree you comments, calibrate is a big issue for PS3, ps4 and ps5 controllers, because Sony not yet open the way to do it... many ways on the google i've tried but can not resolve the root cause...you're are lucky if you only replace the alps potentiometer and works well.

@sseemulator85683 ай бұрын
You have to apply more solder before using sucker, also you need heating sucker(cost like 10 bucks) then you can desolder it all in 2 minutes. What the guy did here on video its most risky and hard way to do it , as you can see he ripped off solder mask during the process. Take a note joystick mostly fails mechanical way not on potentiometers(dont believe that guys on youtube about it). Also when you buy new analog you need to replace potentiometers to the old ones mostly because new one are deffective or poor quality.

Here's some real tips.. from a person with zero experience besides watching these KZbin videos like everyone else. -When using a heat gun you run the risk of either burning the circuit board or melting the components within the joy stick no matter the distance or temp. (Understand melting points of the plastic parts vs solder.) - When using soldering iron it can only reach a few prongs at a time. The heat can transfer from the metal cage holding plastic parts which can warp or melt joystick. -Solution: find something that will evenly heat up each prong in small increments of time so it won't damage any plastic on either side. Or buy another controller.
