Awesome job and I'm very impressed with your techniques and stages to accomplish how weathered you want your cars! I've taken notes of this and will certainly watch this video again when it's time to weather mine. Thanks again for sharing your videos and I'm viewing them from Delmar,Delaware.

Two videos in one day! You spoil us :) I really enjoyed your process. Yes, Micro Set is pretty much just vinegar, and it's meant to act as a sort of glue to help adhere the decal from underneath. In my opinion it is pointless and I don't use it anymore; I use Micro Sol for both before and after the decal application since the solvent melting the decal into the finish does a good enough job fixing the decal in place. Also, really liked the speckling effect at the end with the enamel rust. Speckling is underrated for making super fine chips and rust very quickly!
@socalscalemodels4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Yeah I do like the speckling for those little spots that I'm not as patient to do one by one with a brush. I'm striving to be the 'Panzermeister' and 'Night Shift' of HO boxcars some day. lol ;-)

Wow!! That's an awesome job on those cars. Seriously, you should do a detailed video/picture session on a couple cars and submit it to Model Railroader, maybe even this video on the RailBox cars. They turned out that good. BTW, this answered my question on your 'layout u0pdate' video I responded to. Thanks for this one. It is a keeper to view again. Dale in Idaho

Nice video, the only thing I was wondering about is your use of a matte finish before decaling. Ive never had good results, people told me to always use a gloss coat. Even then my decaling was hit or miss until a kid at Milepost 38 hobby shop turned me on to using Future floor wax, which is acrylic. I air brush it on, a couple light coats and decals go down like glass. I model in On3 scale and the huge "Gramps" tank car decal was applied in one piece, over tank bands and rivets and looks like it is painted on. Just a suggestion, I love watching these kind of videos because you can always learn something. Thanks.
@socalscalemodels4 жыл бұрын
I have used future floor wax on other models prior to doing the decals. The graffiti decals are cut pretty close and I dont get any 'silvering' after applying them with just the light wash and matte finish, so I just kept doing it that way. I think for any other decals I would use a gloss or floor wax.

I enjoyed the ops videos and its really interesting to see how the cars are weathered. The mat finish is currently out of stock so I was wondering your thoughts on the standard testors dull coat. Also, did you put any kind of a gloss coat on the car before you started putting decals on or did they go on to the original out of box car ok. It looks great. Thanks!
@socalscalemodels2 жыл бұрын
I think any dull coat will do just fine. i do not do a gloss cost prior to putting on the decals or weathering. i know in modeling that is a good idea but with the heavy weathering I do on the cars dont really see the need.

what paint did you use for the roof of the car. I want to have that color on a bunch of my cars.
@socalscalemodels9 ай бұрын
Actually, the paint on the roof was just a mix of all my left over paint from the airbrush. I dump it into a small paint container. But if I was to mix up some, it'd be some brown, olive drab and maybe some red.
