It rained last night, so the streets were wet. But my new favorite flatland spot was dry as a bone! Today I figured out the trick to doing parallel slides (I think).

Embrace your inner figure skater! Love it. Sticking your chest out and leaning forward during the transition is key to getting the weight transfer from the third to the second wheel.

Thanks for watching! There are so many things to think about with these maneuvers. With aggressive you could get away with just foot positions. So much fun! (love your videos, obviously)

It's always good to see our skating heroes do slides, but I just end up in awe of their incredible skill level which is totally unattainable for mere mortals like me. But a massive shout out to you as it's so good (and pretty rare) to come across someone learning these skills, showing the stages of progress - and proving that us mortals can, with enough determination, do some of that stuff too. Good luck, keep up the good work - and keep posting so that we can see how you get on.

Agreed! They make it look so easy, and it's clearly not. I got back to blading a few years ago and all I saw was the unattainable skills on display. Figured there were plenty of people like me out there who were just learning, but I couldn't find them. Dozens of videos later, and here I am. Thanks for the kind words!

These kind of videos make me love youtube. Witnessing some else’s real life learning steps is so valuable. Very encouraging in learning the parallel slide myself. Going to try again with your experiences in mind 😅 would love to learn those one footed turns too 😊

That was so good dude! You made so much progress! The gazelles look a lot better, the slides look great, and you got that one footed 3-turn too! Well done!

I skate on smooth polished concrete at work every day and there's no way I'd try sliding on it - it just grips SO WELL. Props to you for showing how it can be done! :)

Awesome progress! You learn so quick, which makes it looks easier than it is! I've been trying to skate but the weather here in Chicago hasn't been great. Hopefully in a week I will be back to practicing!

You're too kind! Remember I've been playing ice hockey since I was 15, so the edge work and balance are pretty solid foundations. (i.e. I'm cheating!)

I've been working on stops too. I still remember you telling me to do more than a power slide to stop, but never really broke that habit! Teaching my oldest to skate now and trying to get better with the basics again myself! It's tough to get time to go somewhere to do grinds, but simple to setup time to just roll around and try flat land stuff.

Hey Jeff! Yeah, it's good to have options, but I think a "drag my foot hen run to the grass" will always be my go-to, lol

I have to find a place like this to practice. I live in a very hilly area where there are not many flat spots around and the ones I know of forbid skating (places like tennis or basketball courts), With that said my best spot for practicing stops is an area 1/2 mile away from my house where the asphalt was paved 5 to 10 years ago and its still pretty smooth (lightly traveled dead end road) but its a slight decline to the point if I just roll I will be going 5 to 7 MPH.

I think you nailes the gazelled when you lean a little bit forward when you execute the transition turn. Great videos though!

How's the skill coming along? This is me last summer: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmaYeahoa9Cpmas&ab_channel=AndreiFasola . If you want my practice input, I'd be glad to share - I think I've broken this down. I'll practice some more, grind more wheels and then maybe use that wisdom before I do a video tutorial.

Nice video! I was having the same problem with the parallel, front skate slides no problem, I keep hanging up on the other skate. I gotta keep my feet closer together (there's a reason it's called parallel slide), and go lower with the angle. I'll get there. Anyway, enjoyed the vid.

By the way I'm looking at a wizard setup for my next pair, I've been skating 4x80 FR1's, then the FR1 310 tri-skate, then a banana rockered FR1, but I'm liking the look of the longer Wizard frame for stability on those transitions, and landings also. The natural rocker makes it, I think. Those r100 look nice too.

I really really want a set of the nr100 wizards now that I've feeling more comfortable on these r100. I don't know how they'll ride, but I gotta experience them. Thanks for watching!

Nice progress. That very last slide had a sick lean to it. And yeah I was thinking what you said at the end, maybe treating it like a royale would really get it sliding.

Sure! If you look at the ovals, the filled in wheels are where you need your weight. The direction of the spin is set by the arrow. I’m no expert though.

Would changing the wheels to higher hardness make it easier to slide? I know the “sliders” do that to make it easier to do different slides. Also, I saw some of them using just 2 wheels on the skate. 2 wheels in the middle are removed.
@BacktoBlading
@BacktoBlading 5 жыл бұрын
I don’t think 2 wheels would be much fun for slides, you need to turn fast into it. Harder wheels might help

How are there no people or cars?! Do you live in the middle of nowhere? There is never slick pavement like that to slide on where I live, it is very rough & lots of traffic. You always gotta be heads up for all the people and cars around you,,, Plus the race bikes going 40mph on the bike path! Do you skate in traffic? What size wheels are those? I like 84’s

These are the r100 from K2. They're 100mm. You can see my review here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXWziIeMf9CIf5Y I'm really lucky to have smooth areas that are covered to skate. I try not to skate in traffic, drivers here are horrible.
