Excellent illustration of how to weather trucks and wheels. The only thing I do different is the addition of rust colored chalks to the wheels.

That sounds like a good idea. I admit that my method is rudimentary and not very interesting. One could certainly add more variety and character with methods like yours.

Great demo!!!! Here's an old school tip. Gently dab the brush into rust chalk before painting. The texture looks great. A cheap thing you can do is use acrylic chalks and scrape them to make all kinds of color weathering powders. KUTGW!!!!

Wonderful video! I have used acrylic craft paint with great success. Can get a decant size bottle for $1.50

I have not considered using acrylics for this purpose. I assume it adheres as well to both metal and plastic?

I started by just weathering trucks and wheels, now I do the whole car, but I think the wheels and trucks make the biggest difference to a new car.

That's how I'm doing it for now. That element is both the easiest to do, and stands out the most to me when looking at a model train. I can accept that a railcar or locomotive might have a brand new paint job. I can't accept gloss black trucks with bright silver whole wheels and axles.
