Really appreciate this long form video since we really get to hear your thought process as you go through your collection. You've really opened my eyes in terms of considering how "complete" games are in my collection, especially ones that I played a while ago and may have since had several updates/rereleases. Thanks!

Really interesting concept that I never really thought of. My collection is just growing bigger and bigger. The few times I sell games is when I don't see myself playing them and they're worth a bit. Then I can sell to get more expensive games that I'll really treasure. This gives me a bit to think about. Thanks and keep up the awesome work!

It's such a hard process to decide what to keep, FOMO comes in a lot and there's games you wouldn't typically buy but you don't want to miss out on the cheapest it'll ever be. I tossed some of my cardboard boxes when I moved, kept my Fire Emblem (and I hope Xenoblade, I have the collector's edition for all of them) but as you said in the video, it's hard to justify the shelf space for cardboard. Congrats on the PS5! I LOVED Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart on it, really great platformer. For FF7 Remake I highly recommend going with the PS5 version, the framerate isn't bad on PS4 but the image is much better plus a consistent 60 rather than inconsistent 30s-20s. Plus the Intergrade DLC is only on PS5, so if you do want to play that you need the PS5 version (and it comes with the DLC I think).

This does inspire me to go through a similar process of my own, but I've got that fear you mentioned at the end, where I'm going to regret selling something. That sort of regret was basically the impetus for me to start collecting in the first place, so it's a big hurdle to get over. Long-term, though, my goal is to have more of a curated library than just a MASSIVE PILE OF EVERY JRPG EVER, so I know I need to get started. Wish me luck!😅

It's refreshing to hear a game collector talk about downsizing and getting rid of some games. It seems like most collectors on KZbin just talk about having the biggest number of games possible and I'm not downing people who do that ( I have a large collection myself) but, it's cool to hear a topic that isn't represented or talked about much.

Really good point about actually taking them off the shelf and physically holding/looking at them as opposed to just scrolling past them on the shelf and you’re liable to skip over some you really should get rid off. More work yet more thorough. - Any game I want to get rid of I will go ahead and wait at least a day or so and then re-examine my stack of what I’m going to get rid of - usually I’m right, but sometimes you get overzealous in getting rid of stuff. 😊

I’m currently going through this with my Wii, Wii U, DS, 3DS and PSP collections. It’s definitely a lot easier to acquire games that it is to get rid of them, but so far I’ve weeded out over 200 titles that I don’t really see any point in keeping. I have trouble letting go stuff from my favorite genres too. I haven’t even breached my Switch games yet, but I recently organized everything by genre to help me get a better handle on what I have and what could potentially be weeded out. I enjoyed watching your video. Speaking from personal experience, Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom was one of my first Switch games and is one of my favorites. It had such gorgeous artwork, an amazing soundtrack, and solid gameplay. I upgraded to the collectors edition and gave the other copy to my friend. Monster Boy as I understand it is a spiritual successor to the Wonderboy games. Since you mentioned being on the fence, I would suggest giving Monster Boy a go first. That way, if you really like it you will have a more solid foundation in exploring its roots in those earlier games. I bought them all to play - the remaster of Dragon’s Trap is beautiful and you can switch between pixel art and hand drawn artwork on the fly (same with original and arranged OSTs). The mechanics are the same regardless and the only issue might be that it might feel a bit dated. Don’t want to twist your arm one way or another but if you really like Monster Boy, it might inspire you to delve through the others!

That is quite the collection! Thank you for taking the time to share it with us along with your thought process on how you evaluate each and every game in your collection. I know all too well the struggle associated with tracking down select North American switch releases and the inflated price tags associated with them when they become scarce. Being a collector on a tight budget, I buy games regardless of their region to avoid paying more than I'm comfortable with. As my collection grew, my OCD kicked in after noticing how the games on my shelves didn't have a clean, seamless look, which inevitably led me to feelings of buyers remorse for not sticking to NA titles. So I searched online for a cost effective way to replace the cover art for all of my non-NA switch games instead of reselling them to repurchase those games in my preferred region. My search led me to a handful of shops on Etsy offering the service to custom print art covers for switch games for as little as $6, to as high as $12 (which is contingent on whether you want art on the inside of the cover as well). Since finding the shop I use on Etsy, I have replaced 32 covers (with another 5 on the way); now the collection on my shelves have a much cleaner, seamless look. All this to say that if you're looking to do the same at a fraction of the cost, this is a pretty neat way to do it 🙂

You have a fantastic collection! Its very conscientious of you to go through everything. Its not something I do for my various collections but I must admit having a large house helps with not doing that. I have a whole library room full of books, DVDs and games (my 4000 CDs are spread through the whole house). My library even survived my recently importing my mother's collection of hard-back novels from Australia to the UK on a huge new book case (around 100 more books). But I might have to rethink soon... or buy a bigger house.

I can remember a few years ago I really streamlined my PS2 collection and some of the games that I let go at the time were big heavy hitters (Suikoden IV is probably one of the bigger ones) but I also recall that I played and did not like it. The Ty Tasmanian Tiger Trilogy was another one that I let go for very cheap but ultimately I had never really played them and had had them in my collection for years. In some instances, I think if I own a game for 10 years and don't play it, it's time for it to go. I have kind of winced at the price I let them go for now, but I don't regret because I never played them and honestly struggle to remember some of the games I really did get rid of.

What a nice 50 minutes trip down memory lane. Lots of banger games I grew up with that I forgot about (SSX Tricky). Your* collection is well curated. My collection, on the other hand, could definitely use some trimming but its hard for me let go. I can only really let go of my game if I upgrade from loose to CIB or CIB to new. And I've been guilty of buying two copies of a game thinking that I would keep one sealed and play the other one. I just end up never getting to them. Also, are you sure you want to get rid of Vagrant Story? That's a pretty valuable game and it was pretty good too. I think the new FF16 is appealing to me because it gives me that Vagrant Story vibe. FF12 felt kind of like that too. So in a way Vagrant Story kind of have historical significance. Btw, how is it that you have Blossom Tales 2 so early? I think you are the only person in the world with a physical copy right now. There are no listings on eBay
@orbalology
@orbalology Жыл бұрын
Oh, do you mean Fragrant Story on the 3DS? It's inspired by Vagrant story but is imo not great or very difficult (you can beat the game in 15 minutes, and max everything out in 45 minutes). It's only expensive because it's 'the last 3ds game' at the time and was sold in limited quantities. For Blossom Tales 2 I bought the Limited Run edition directly from their website, so it's possible they shipped those out early but not the Amazon exclusive ones.

Finally just got done watching the whole video! Very extensive, exhaustive, and extended look at your collection hehe! Love it! I just have a couple of things I wanted to say: 1. In my opinion, I don't think you should get rid of games (like Tales of the Abyss) if they do get an upgrade/enhanced version. I think the first/older versions of the games have their unique charm and quality that might not be there on the newer versions of the game. And honestly, given the state of gaming nowadays, there's always a chance that the new version might be not be as good or even worse than the original lol. 2. If you are gonna replace a game (like PS4 to PS5), I do have a question, are you gonna be able to play them? Because, I noticed, a good chunk of the games that you said you were gonna do this thing, you haven't even had played them yet. I think, (and this will relate to my 3rd point as well) you should try playing those games, and see if these are games that you can sink your teeth into, and it will be worth continuing the experience on the newer hardware. 3. You had a decent amount of games that you were clearly on the fence on whether to keep or to sell. I would suggest, and this could be a series of videos you can do moving forward, is to try out said games, see what they really are, and, ultimately, make the decision from there. I think, it's good to have that knowledge of having a greater idea of what the game is, and you can make a better choice on what to do with it. Keep up the great work as always, Emily! :D

Great and inspiring content as always! ❤ I've always been thinking about re-evaluating my collection! But the hardest and probably the most important part is actually PLAY them. Most of the time I feel not motivated enough or just simply not sure which one to play from my HUGE backlog~ I think I need to develop an organised plan or schedule to play more games but on the other hand part of me is warning myself that kind of play style might take the fun out of enjoying a game... So I'm really interested in how you organise your time to play more games while still get most fun out of them without feel like doing homework~

I really appreciate the amount of effort that clearly went into this video! Great stuff as always! Really enjoyed hearing your thought process to curation. I feel like I’m getting a lot of collection bloat from the part of my collection that’s devoted to videogame console history and curiosities 😂 when I get an unusual old console, I always get one game so that I can test and demo the hardware, but then any time I’m at a show or con I’ll buy more just because it’s rare to have the opportunity to buy them. Fast forward and I suddenly have 20 games for an obscure console from the early 90s that I’m never going to play other than flipping it on to show to people occasionally. 😂 those probably needs to be the first things to prune.

I don't really have too many games comparitively, but this sounds like a good idea since I have a few games I know I'll never play considering I have the PS4 version of Overwatch. Though there are a few childhood games that I haven't had for a long while. I was stupid as a kid, so a lot of my childhood games ended up going to GameStop, such as all of my NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, and Gameboy games. Unfortunately I have no clue if I'll ever see my childhood copies of the three Kingdom Hearts PS2 games as they were borrowed many years ago, and show no signs of being returned. I'll definitely be trying this out, and the bit at the end about the regret of selling games and those belonging in your collection was fairly reassuring.

With Uncharted 4 you can pay $10 and get the upgrade to the Legacy Collection on PS5. You just need the disc inserted. I think that's a good way to 29:19 play them. That's what I did. With Yakuza LAD you can just get the PS5 upgrade with your PS4 disc, just a suggestion.

I recently started purging my collection just like like you did in this video. Feels good but some of these games are hard to resell. Even with the demanded or popular ones. And I tend to sell below the market prices. I’ll be moving soon so it is much needed.

The PSP edition of Final Fantasy 3 is quite nice. It takes the DS version (which was the original 3D Remake, and also quite nice) and pretties up the graphics quite well. It also gives the option to swap between the arranged and the new ost.

I just did this over the weekend. I went through every game I had and asked myself two questions: Will I ever play this? Does this hold any sort of sentimental value? If the answer to both is no, then I pulled it from the collection. I've wanted to shrink down what I have for some time now, as I've gotten older, I just don't have the time to play as much as I do. I end up buying so many games and never playing them because of it.

While I have not downsized my collection, I have definitely cut back on the number of games I've been getting over the past 2 years. When I started game collecting, I was cycling through 5 local game stores, ordering stuff on different websites, and getting into ebay auctions basically every week. Now at most I pick up 2-3 games every other month. I've done the same thing when it comes for genres I'm most interested in, I primarily collect JRPGS, visual novels and rhythm games plus Nintendo first party exclusives I care about, and a small handful of greatest hits in genres that I tend to play less but still enjoy on each platform. At some point, I get to the point where I feel like that collection is "complete", a good sampling of the types of games and franchises I enjoy on a given platform and more or less stop collecting for it. This usually doesn't happen until after the console is no longer in production and releasing games so at this point I'm really just focusing on the Switch. Also, glad to see the entire collection, happy game hunting!

Thank you for the video :). It’s interesting to see your process of curating your collection. I’ve been planning to condense my collection. I was curious about the sell/trade pile, do you have a preferred method/location to trade and sell those items?

Great video! Watched all the way to the end and I've been thinking about applying this more to my own collecting (which i'm already good at, but will need to downsize again at some point). Also regarding Norn9, it's Switch rerelease has an improved translation. That's the version to play as the Vita TL was heavily criticised back in the day.

I like the concept of "organic collection". I'm on the same boat. I have games that i like and some that i will think I will like and play some day. If a game that I already had lost interest on me or is a game that i don't like after playing it i sell it or trade it. Simple as that. And as for the double dip. I always prefer to have only one version, the one that run better. For example, I have YS VIII and IX on PS5 because on Switch, if it's a good thing to play portable, they don't run well at all. I always prioritize Switch but as long as the game run without issues. Imo hoarding games that you don't really goes with your tastes is like having a souless collection and also fooling yourself.

I'm loving that PS2 collection!! I know it's built on a lot of nostalgia, but that copy of SSX Tricky came out of nowhere lol But honestly, I'm sure we all have at least one game in all our collection people would wonder where that came from. Mainline Monster Hunter games can be very difficult to get into. I tried 3 on the Wii and World on the PS4, before getting to Rise and absolutely falling in love with it. If you do plan on giving in another shot would recommend checking out some guides and tutorial vids. Just picking the right starting weapon can make all the difference honestly.

Awesome Video Emily. I noticed you mentioned Wonder Boy 3 The Dragon's trap remake. That's an excellent game. They added 3 difficulty modes to it. You don't have to get up to pause on the Sega Master system to go use or equip your items. The most important thing in this that they did compared to the original is that you don't need charm stones anymore to buy certain armor, shields & swords. They made the process of farming your money a whole lot better that you don't lose what you gained should you game over or turn off your system. Also I would recommend if you have this game to play Alex Kidd in Miracle World remake.

It's interesting, but hard for me to do so. Even if I have a great time in one game, it's not that I ever replay my finished games. So, I don't really understand how I'm going to evaluate my collection, but I do enjoy collecting games 😅 Thank you for sharing your thought, Emily 😊

Excellent video, Emily! I really like the idea of taking everything off the shelf and evaluating each game one by one. I've been thinking about downsizing my game collection a bit so I might need to do this exercise soon as well. I'd definitely recommend completing the Lord of the Rings set on PS2, you can't go wrong with Two Towers and Return of the King (Third Age is also a pretty great turn-based RPG)! :)

my main criteria on what games to let go or not is if I ever have intention of replaying it in the future, even if I realistically can't replay all the games I like, if I feel that I want to revisit it at some point then I'm keeping it I do have some outliers where I enjoyed the game but probably won't replay it anytime soon, but those are only a handful of games

For Castlevania, the Switch has two collections. One collection has all the classic Castlevanias, from 1 up to Super Castlevania, as well as the Gameboy games as well as Bloodlines and a Japan exclusive game Kid Dracula. Then the second collection has all 3 GBA games as well as Dracula X. These collections are EXCELLENT! They have great filters and emulation, as well as a ton of extras like different soundtracks and manuals, with versions in English and Japanese. I highly recommend them both.

Wow, that's quite a little collection you got there. It's easy for a backlog to accumulate when you know what kind of games you like, but it really isn't fair when it comes to collectors editions. I personally don't buy a new game until I beat the last one I bought, so the fomo for desired collectors editions is very real for me. I'm glad your channel explores alternative game memorabilia options opposed to the traditional collector editions and Funko Pop figurines. Also, has that new Zelda 1TB MicroSD card caught your eye yet? lol
