Ha, I just got back from Japan and also picked up that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 + number 2 as well. Looking forward to finishing the games before I read them! I also picked up a bunch of switch games which had english options so the backlog is starting to feel heavy...

Great additions to the collection! With my shelves for my top videogames, tv shows, movies and albums, I basically display them as ranked in a Top 100 format. That might drive A-Z folks mad 😂 but that’s how I do it, Top 10/100 everything! 😂

I bought Yokai watch 3 for 35 Euro release price, but even at release the print was low😢 On the other hand SMT 4 and Alliance alive only released digitally in Europe 😅 I sold Suikoden Tierkreis for 30 Euro and Super Robot Taisen OG Endless frontier for 125 (worth 400 now) years ago. Never sell unless you really hate a game. Worst price hike in Europe was Little Witch Nobeta for Switch. It was in September 20ish and now 60+

Unfortunately I got into the habit of wanting to collect jrpgs not necessarily to play them but just to collect them. Sure I want to play all of them at some point but now I'm just into collecting all jrpgs not only on the Nintendo switch but other consoles as well 😕

When the Nintendo online store puts pre purchase for physical items, I tend to go “hmmmmm….”. Pretty hmmmmm that Xenoblade x physical is pre purchase like 2 quarters ahead.

I do collect physical games for a few years now. I don't display them, not sure how I would display them if I decided to.

Yeah when it comes to Tokyo and Osaka especially, with retro games they’ve been rather picked clean, and for games you’d actually be looking for it’s all eBay prices. There are still good prices for picking up random lesser known of games. But like you said don’t get expectations too high. Hardware is still a great deal though. A Japanese region console is way cheaper there than what you’d pay for online.

Been playing Metaphor as well. Around 30hrs in and trucking enemies with merchant. 💰

Great insight. I have noticed that some lesser known JP exclusive games are priced okay even in Tokyo. What's really hard to get low are the popular international franchises like Pokemon, Mario, Zelda, Square stuff etc. You do not have to go very far though to find okay deals even on famous stuff. Even just hour north by train of Tokyo there was a Surugaya that had pokemon Games complete in box for 3000 yen each. Off topic, but have you seen/played the Tsukihime Remake visual novel yet? And Witch on the Holy Night? I think you may like them. I am a big Type Moon fan personally.

Great thoughts to hear for an early collector. Largely for budgetary reasons but also preferential ones, my own approach at an early stage of collecting has been to collect games that are of particular historical interest to me or I otherwise just enjoy irrespective of "value". Like, I'm not going to buy some random game whose value is entirely peculiar and circumstantial and has nothing to do with the desirability of the game per se. Nice to hear some similar perspective out there.
